Depending on how you crunch the numbers, we were within 1 million to 90 million years of CO2 levels dropping enough that tree line becomes sea level. Ocean based life would survive that. Land based life, aside from some outliers that mostly eat from the sea, like polar bears, would become extinct.
At 150 ppm everything is dead. I am not sure ocean life would exist without nutrients from the total ecosystem.

Katrina the worst recent catastrophe in our part of the world had 1200 deaths mostly caused by human stupidity as opposed to nature.
