  2. I don’t get it. Earthquakes only happen in the crust and upper mantle, at most 800 km deep. Yet some of those earthquakes seem to originate near the earth’s core.

      1. I will guess so the action can be shown in the format they are using. The earths crust is still moving and will continue to do so as long as the earths spins and until the core cools to the point where motion ceases. Of course the planet will be a dead dry rock by that time.

          When you find the little woman who can make coffee you’ll find the camp style coffee pot. But if’n she’s no where to be found you can check out Cabela’s Hunting & Fishing store on 64th ave NE in Deerfoot City or its sister store Bass Pro Shops at 261055 Crossiron Blvd, Rockyview no44 in Cross Iron Mills. Cabela’s website shows several, I saw them earlier. I believe they have free delivery. Warning, you can get lost in these stores, they’re huge!

  4. This is the one I have been watching. The New Madrid. Over 500 tremblers in the last 6 months. It let go in the last Grand Solar Minimum and was felt in Toronto and Montreal, rang church bells in Boston. Because it sits on the North American Craton, when it rips it is felt a long way. The other one is the Mid Continental Rift up through the Midwest from about Texas and curves back to the Great Lakes. In Grand Solar Minimums, we seem to get more earthquakes and volcanic activity.
    Think Krakatoa and New Madrid and Dalton Minimum and Maunder Minimum.

  5. I was involved with the Newcastle (N.S.W., Australia) Earthquake in 1989, and I like geology anyway, so this was absolutely fascinating for me…!!! An early thought when viewing it, though?! “And we thought Krypton had problems”! Yeah, I like scifi as well…

    1. This is not hard to figure out. Quebec wants to reduce its number of immigrants, so Trudeau is obliging. There is the additional advantage that it helps support a French language presence outside of Quebec. The difficulty of course is for the French language immigrants trying yo get jobs if their first language is French. They will have problems, but the well- being of immigrants is not a priority for either the Libersls or Quebec.

    Don’t own an electric car, and have never been to a charging station, so the above news story is above my head, as to what’s what. It the LA spokesman is accurate as to his warning (who knows? He’s in LA), this means more trouble for the environmentally-conscious wokes out there.

      1. A quick search of locations shows there is no charge at my local mall’s charging stations. Plug in. Go shop. And, so much for the request to remain near your vehicle while it is charging. The few times I’ve seen vehicles hooked up, I’ve never seen anyone stay with his/her car.

        1. There is a charge for the charge… because the mall didn’t put it in for free. The tenant’s have to pay and they pass the charge to the customers.

    The only way to lock in a higher emissions trajectory is to USE more fossil fuel, not offer more of it for export or to limit or end imports. Fools on a bus. Producing countries are increasing production and consuming countries are increasing consumption and trying to increase production to offset import costs. Rocket science this problem ain’t. Use less fossil fuel and CO2 emissions will drop. Hello China and India.

    1. Watcher, there’s a good discussion on the True North web site, about how the Toronto-based media cartel are zeroing in on Premier Jason Kenney. One thing I’ve noticed is that — after the federal election where the corporate media helped take down the Conservatives — the media complex has become drunk with its supposed power. You posted one Globe editorial slamming Kenney, but Canada’s Central Canadian Newspaper has been spewing anti-Kenney opinion hit-pieces, on a daily basis, for some time now. It’s becoming like unintended self-parody.

      Another example of self-parody, I watched an hour of CBC News Morning, between 7 am and 8 am Eastern. The horrid show devoted the entire hour to a running commentary of the impeachment hearings, interviewing only Democrats and left-wing reporters — and completely ignoring that there is a major federal cabinet shuffle this afternoon. But what stood out was Heather Hiscox interviewing Katie Simpson. Ms. Simpson is so bad, with a microphone in her hand, one can only feel she has some neurotic difficulties in her small head. She babbles on and on, wide eyed, throwing out one Democratic party talking point after another, at rapid fire speed, such that it is hard for one to follow what she is saying. She is an immature person, lacking in self-awareness. So much so she does know how to calm down and to smoothly hide her paid-and-bought for views. She is to journalism as to what Plan 9 from Outer Space is to movie making.

    1. When I lived in Newmarket, I shopped at First Commerce Drive in Aurora. The parking lot outside the Reno-Depot Aurora was always empty. I’m surprised it took this long to close that location.

      1. The nearest Lowes store is closing here. It is at a busy location and once used to be a Zellers and after that closed, there was a Target Store. Across the road Wal-Mart and Home Depot ate their lunch, I suspect, due cheaper prices.

        1. Home Depot Shawnessy has been there a lot longer than Lowes. That store pretty much reno-ed, fenced and landscaped everything east of the Bow River and north to Canyon Meadows Dr., since the store opened. They have a dedicated clientele, both business and personal that has been well served for about 20 years. Lowes prices are higher, with slightly better selection. HD stocks what sells, for less.

      1. Rona used to be a good option here; but now the local Rona is just waiting to be closed, has been since Lowes took it over. Mind you, the nearest Lowes is also garbage; terrible service, no gopod deals. Home Depot has this end of town wrapped up. Unfortunately, you have to go further East, to Rockland, to get good lumber deals. When I first came to Ottawa, there was good lumber places east adn West. cloer in town.

        Property taxes driving businesses away.

        And on that subject, we occasionally get city councillors bemoaning the effect of government avarice on the Bytown Market. High property taxes drive away all businesses but the highest profit AKA bars and restaurants.
