    At first you might think, it’s only for the billionaires. That would be your first mistake for this is a tax on what you own, not just how much you are worth. Sure they will start with the billionaires, and when they can’t get enough from them, they will drop down to the millionaires, then to the upper class, then the middle class and finally “to make it fair” a wealth tax on everyone who owns something of value – except for the very wealthy (ironic).

    Warren’s Medicare plan involves taking all the private contributions made by employers for their employees to the insurance companies and having this money go to the government instead (this represents almost 50% of all the money she will raise for Medicare).

    Warren will raise $8.8 trillion by diverting private contributions to the government, $3 trillion through taxes on the 1%, $2.3 trillion through better tax enforcement, $1.65 trillion on new taxes for overseas corporations, $1.25 trillion on new corporate taxes for US companies and $1.15 trillion on new personal taxes.

    Elisabeth Warren is currently the front-runner for the Democrats and could be the next President of the United States. She could be the person (woman) who finally gets Medicare right or collapses the US economy. If Women Ran the World, indeed. May you suffer in interesting times.

  11. Yesterday I took a call from a CPC fund raiser. ‘We have to rebuild our war chest since another federal election could happen at any time’. I told him I donated in the last election for the CPC candidate in our riding who was elected. I also told him it will be the last time I donated for any national party. I am trusting that my MP is smart enough and has the where withal to be part of a Wexit movement.

    The CPC caller who told me he had taken political science at university in Ottawa seemed stunned. Told me he never wanted to have to show a passport to visit his brother. I in turn told him how disappointed I was that the CPC had failed so miserably in capturing or debating key national issues in the last campaign. I told him I was not prepared to invest another 10 years of Andrew Sheer trying to appease eastern interests so that he could be PM. Simply not good enough nor does the West have that kind of time economically.

    Points of interest:
    – told him I was a early Reform organizer and that I was not prepared to invest in another effort of reconciliation. A wasted 20 years IMHO. Manning did a serious disservice when he went national with Reform
    – My rejection of the east has cultural roots but fundamentally it is economic. The east views the West as a source of money and has done so for 300 years. That is not going to change.
    – Western money is the cash flow that helps prop up a failing social welfare system that will implode no matter what happens or what government is in power. When the feds cannot meet their promises the finger pointing will cause a national crisis in any event. If smart the West will pre-empt this reality and be already prepared to move out.
    – the CPC fundraiser moved from trying to use patriotism to change my opinion to the threat of Trump moving in to take AB & SASK. At that point I laughed. DO you think that AB oil crisis is the only issue? I said I am from BC and our softwood lumber industry is in serious trouble and faces a +$400 million a year tariff that Ottawa has never dealt with. This industry is regularly sacrificed at the table in favor of eastern benefits under NAFTA.
    – the harsh reality is then admitted too by my CPC caller. ‘My brother has a $500,000 house in Ft. Mac that he is losing because of the downturn.
    – the CPC fund raiser then admits to me that many of the party members in the West have the same attitude as I do. Many of his calls out West are receiving the same Wexit reaction.
    – I can only hope that when Wexit meetings are organized in AB that people go out and get informed and involved.
    *** People who traditionally do not get involved in politics have to now. This situation is not going away but will come to a head very quickly. Canada’s finances are a house of cards no matter what you hear from a media bought and paid for by the Liebels. The next recession will likely be the last for what we know as Canada.

    The author ineptly crows about the trade deficit (as if that even exists) and tries to link it to the massive and growing Trump Budget deficit. Other than that it’s a pretty good summary of Trump’s failed economic policies.

    1. A small correction – McLellan will undoubtedly be paid for expenses she incurs in providing advice to M. Trudeau but she will receive no salary. A smaller mouth at the trough perhaps. She has already been an advisor to Trudeau on subjects like SNC Lavalin.
      “Landslide Annie,” so known for several razor thin victories in Edmonton for the Chretien/Martin Liberal governments spent at least one term as Natural Resources Minister. After receiving much jeering for having no energy (specifically oil) experience she turned out to be a competent and respected Minister. That endorsement came from several high ranking members of the Alberta oil industry.
      McLellan will not be in Cabinet although I suspect she may attend Cabinet meetings from time to time. Given the performance of many existing Cabinet ministers it’s actually too bad that McLellan won’t be a member.
      M. Trudeau could have made many worse choices for a ‘Western’ advisor. Tzeporah Berman anyone? She has natural resources “experience”.

      1. BJb = No salary ? So the expenses should be about 200 per month -tops – a phone line and an internet connection. After all , we have a climate emergency.
        So she advised on SNC – wow – quite a feather in her cap!
        And ,oh by the way , there was worse choices.
        So let us get to the substance. Her advice is going to change the direction of government policy? All of a sudden the tanker ban is off and the onerous legislation is repealed?
        The equalization formula is adjusted to reflect economic reality and not used to placate Quebec?
        I would find you contentions humorous if the implications were not so serious. You know like the 60 year old man who just came from his other service job to pump my gas. 4 years ago he was waiting to return to his high paying job in the oil industry. Or the other guy I know who has worked 6 months in the last 5 years because the jobs they keep winning get shelved.
        Or where a family member works and he continually has to decide what people they can survive without for the fifth time. (many of whom have worked there 20 years or more) .
        So expenses -so his trusted advisor tries to push through close to 200 grand to move from Toronto to Ottawa. I expect most of the unemployed people and many more would do quite well of her “expenses”. In my experience past performance is often the best indicator of future performance.
        You are correct it could be worse and no doubt will be. Pigs at the trough and virtue signalling.
