  2. The people of CA need a colonoscopy because I think that is where they might find their heads, no insult meant to Kenji. The level of stupid can only be matched by Canadians who think they can actually live without fossil fuels. I have in the past used the term terminally stupid, it seems that is getting closer to the truth everyday.

    1. No, they need to realize the situation they are in. They have a government, that is entirely elected by their 2 or 3 major population centers. Given that fact, as long as there are no fires raging through LA, or Scat Fransisco, the voters who matter are not going to see any need to change anything.

      There are a few solutions. Top of the list being arson in areas that keep voting to burn down your town, but not theirs. Second is gangs running surveillance on the rulers, and documenting and publishing every law they break and get away with. Three is to simply start ignoring the stupid laws; you clear the brush and do the basic fire prevention, and you get together with all your neighbours to lynch anyone who tries to stop you.

      Looks like California is past the point where there are legal or political solutions to its problems.

  3. If I recall, about 15 years ago, Lizzy May was bragging about stopping spraying for Spruce Bud Worms in Nervous Scotia I think. Naturally the spruce and balsam trees were hit hard and killed. They provided lots of fuel (Ladder Fuel is the technical term) for the resulting fires. But hey, those evil neo-cons weren’t spraying..

  4. Arsonists aside, BC has very similar Forestry practices. Add into the mix of not replacing those deciduous trees that are fire resistant in favour of those that are profit bearing, while attempting to protect this minor species and that has much to do with the proliferation of wildfires.

    As in Cali and pretty much anywhere in the Western Hemisphere, Sanity per se has left the major cities. I give you Gregor Robertson – Naheed Nenshi and that moron in Edmonton.

      I really had very little sympathy when the story hit the news. in *their* case more like ‘noose’.

  7. Remember Ft Mac? They stopped having a buffer burn zones around the city and therefore we saw the result.

    1. And when the fires started the oilsands mines 50 miles north called and said say the word and we’ll have a 100 bulldozers down there ASAP. They asked for bulldozers AFTER the damage was done. So 97 did cleanup and dozed additional firebreaks.

  11. Ace is correct … however. Never in my 64 years on the planet have SO MANY PG&E wires fallen in the wind. I expect most of their infrastructure was at the end of its serviceable life 25 years ago. But basic repairs and maintenance costs don’t look good on the bottom line, nor are they as “popular” and “sexy” as “Free” electricity for both the homeless … and … new electric car buyers.

    Nope. There’s never gonna be a reset. You are dead on Kevin … the residents of San Francisco who fear no PG&E shut-down and who get their water from the hetch hetcy are NEVER gonna vote rationally.

        I should remind you that my daughter married a 1/2 Irish 1/2 First Nations Canadian, who is a fantastic young man. And I am hoping my son marries his LT live in girlfriend who is 1/2 Japanese and 1/2 Trinidadian who is both beautiful and has a PhD in microbiology from the premiere West Coast private college. Despite her wearing “that red shirt” …I dearly love her

  15. Jerry Brown just announced that climate change is the issue with wildfires. Things are getting a little too crazy and stupid for me, I have to spend less time on the internet…
