    reddit really works on to shut down traffic there. I was trying to read it the other day (I’m not a reddit account user), and yeah, it warns with some lame legalese that the group would be rogue, don’t go there.

    And then, it warns again. Every time you open a thread, it will ask again.

    And not only that. In the end, it will ask the question ‘continue’ / ‘no thanks’ again, while pressing ‘continue’ will do nothing, and choosing ‘no thanks’ will throw you out of the group. I’ll get forward *only* by choosing no thanks, then browsing ‘back’ and re-choosing ‘continue’.

      1. We should try to push NDP And Green to withhold support of a minority government without full RCMP access to the SNC Lavlin information protected by cabinet confidentiality .
      2. Support for the NDP may well result in neither the NDP nor Liberals winning the seat.

      1. Good luck with that! Best thing is to (YIKES) prop up the Greens in BC rather than the Commies, to prevent Lib plus ENDP > 169 seats. Might be a moot pt.
        Current 338canada.com rolling polls suggest that possibility now, but, all polls swing wildly in percentages for the Libranos and CPC by 6 points of deviation.
        In short, it’s a minority government, probably Liberal, and best case is no 2 parties can form any coalition. That would handcuff Trudy and his idiots completely.

  13. My 11-year-old daughter talked to me about a school assignment, on Thursday all the kids were going to have to state in class which political party they support and why. Her first concern was the important secret ballot principle. Last year, her class had a play election and the teacher reviewed all the results and knew what each child voted, I had then discussed with her the teacher’s offensive behaviour in eliminating the secret ballot principle from that civics lesson. I suggested she do a little research on the secret ballot and address it in class. She also said she favoured the People’s Party (no influence from me on that!) because “they want to leave environmental stuff up to the provinces and that’s good because all provinces are different”. I said, OK, you can go to class, speak about the secret ballot and then give your People’s Party opinion. When she got home I asked her how it went, and she said she just said she supported the Green Party because the environment. Also, every kid in the class was either Green or NDP. Also, every kid in the class dislikes Turdeau. I told her she did good, don’t attract any heat, just continue tell the teachers exactly what they want to hear. My long range plan is to raise her to survive under a totalitarian police state.

  15. Statistics Canada’s Labour Force report came out just moments ago, for September, and it shows that 54,000 net jobs were added, much more than the 7,500 net jobs economists were forecasting. The unemployment rate ticked down by .1%. All of this will be touted by the federal Liberals and Trudeau’s compliant media cartel that “the economy is strong”, etc. As I write this, CBC Morning News’s Heather Hiscox is smiling, saying “The economy is strong!”.

    The Stan Can report, however, says that all of the growth was in the public sector, and concentrated in Quebec and Ontario. More good news for the Liberals and their allies. The media mantra during this election is that “Ontario and Quebec seats count”, and, well, Western and Atlantic not so much.

    One thing few have talked about. Employment growth has been strong, but real GDP growth has been very slow, given declines in energy, natural resources and manufacturing production. Nobody is talking about this.

    1. In recent days, Scheer’s Conservatives have come under withering fire from the Unifor’s ads, Liberal ads, and Trudeau’s corporate media allies. E.g., Trudeau’s Globe and Mail concocted out of pure thin air that Peter McKay “Conservatives” are planning a takeover of the party next year. This set of concerted attacks will continue up until election day.

      So, look for either a Trudeau majority government, or a Trudeau-led minority government, come election day. Before too much blame can be made, given the strong jobs report this morning, maybe it is the case that Canadine do honestly believe that our economy is strong, and they will be voting Liberal given that they believe “times are good”.

      As an economist I believe that our economy is sleep-walking into a recession — and is currently being artificially held up by government public service jobs and an overheated housing sector. But no matter. Few seem to care about the state of our economy. In this election campaign, it’s party time. Eat, drink and be merry.

      1. Those job estimates ping back and forth from -100,000 to +100,000. Nice to ping into the positive just before an election. No talk of the high variability and therefore the meaningless of one estimate.

      That’s from Bloomberg and that ain’t good news despite all the BS about wages rising. Rising health care worker numbers show not only an increase in public sector numpties but an increase in health costs and therefore taxes and of course debt, not to mention more “sick” people not working or contributing to the tax base.

  17. A man fires 2 warning shots at another man who is stealing from his property. A bullet ricochets and strikes the intruder in the arm. Now the intruder can’t sleep or earn an income. So he sues the person he was attempting to steal from…for $150,000.

    The intruder’s lawyer says the law is clear. You can’t shoot at someone who is trying to steal from you.

    The comments break down into 2 basic categories; 1) no one deserves to die for stealing a bicycle and 2) anyone caught stealing deserves what they get.

    My take is if you make it illegal to stop an intruder unless he is trying to kill you (how would you even know) what deterrent is there to stealing? We are being groomed to not fight back and the police are being trained not to help us.

    1. Had a guy at work do this and the news of the event spread across the power plant fast. He insisted to the police he was shooting at a snake by the intruder’s feet. If you knew the guy, he would not waver from that claim either. And, I guess that’s what the story for the police was in the end – he was shooting at a snake. Saving the thief from harm don’t cha know.

      He came from an extreme hill-billy area so his accent was so strong, many had trouble understanding what he said anyway. Damn hard worker. I wouldn’t visit him unannounced though.

You may have discovered after the passing of Ginger Baker that I am a massive fan of Little Stevie Winwood (his brief collaboration with GB in Blind Faith). He is a piano virtuoso with mad jazz chops. I am a sucker for the complex grooves of Jazz-Rock Fusion … and Winwood is one of the best.

    I patiently searched for an absolutely perfect used copy of Low Spark … for about a year, before I found one … and it’s like new. Such a cool groove.

    And OMG! The drumming! Roger Hawkins …One of the Muscle Shoals Swampers? That man has got rhythm! My only disappointment is in Wood’s sax work on Low Spark (in this concert video) … it looks like he is reading the music charts while playing … like he’s still not memorized the music … which makes his playing come across a little clinical … without the emotional feeling of this great tune.

      Supertramp … a group who produced the absolute most quality engineered sound of any Rock Band ever. Their lp’s are coveted by audiophiles as a great exercise/demo for their systems.

      It’s not a live performance, but I consider Supertramp a “studio group” whose music deserves the lush Sonics of a studio recording. I like one of the YouTube comments … “The Wall, before the Wall” …

    2. As a follow-up to some of the comments a few days ago about Larry Junstrom’s passing, I just finished listening to this week’s edition of the Amateur Radio Newsline podcast. It turns out that he was a ham as well with the callsign K4EG.
