He might have also asked where Sophie was that night.

Blatchford has written enough from the courtroom to be able to call a criminal a goddamn crook who needs to go to prison and stay there. Pity Scheer isn’t able to do that.

Why is Sophie MIA? Isn’t she supposed to be giving her favourite stuffing recipe to Canadian Living and touring an immigration center for the photogs and commenting about the Indigenous person who created her earrings in a newspaper somewhere?

Sophie has been MIA at lot recently. When Justin was first elected, she seemed to be everywhere – giving speeches, complaining that three taxpayer funded nannies and one secretary were not enough, singing at events, accompanying her husband on all of his trips, giving interviews and posing for magazine covers. Then came India; according to Liberal insiders, she was the one who came up with the idea of having the entire family prance around wearing colorful costumes. Since then, we have hardly ever seen or heard from her. She was at the G7 meeting, but I can’t think of any other public events, and Justin seems to be campaigning without her this election.
That’s odd, usually the spouse is out there trying to score some points…and the media would have given her royalty status if she had shown up anywhere. It’s a head scratcher for sure.
Followed the debates but didn’t watch them because people chaotically yelling at each other is painful to watch. Did the debate committe test run their format? Doesn’t sound like it. They should have picked 6 of the rudest, boorish and loudest people thet know to stand in for the party leaders and find out how to control the debate. I’m guessing they just went with “this looks great on paper” middle management method.
Media reactions are always interesting. Before the debate someone on social media said that the only two outcomes for the media would be Trudeau wins or Nobody wins. I’d say that comment was pretty accurate.
The chattering class’ preffered outcome for the election is 1)Trudeau majority 2) Trudeau minority. 3) A Scheer majority is simply unacceptable. Scenario 1 and 2 are interchangeable for of them most, I think. Which explains the daily talk about minority government. But, the chattering class is definitely worried about and preparing for scenario 3, a Scheer majority. There’s a noticeable increase in a “Scheer and the Conservatives must,…” talk. Scheer must prioritize the climate change emergency, for instance. I guess their thinking is to force Scheer and the Conservatives into being an acceptable Conservative government, aka, indistinguishable from liberals. Due to this new maneuver, I wonder if Scheer is doing better in key ridings than is being reported.

Warren Kinsella’s twitter feed, wants to know why Canada is sending troops to China for some sort of army sports games, when that country is holding two Canadians hostage.
China has always played to long game. This event sounds like an opportunity for China to try recruiting some spies in Canada’s military, and also the military of other participating nations …spies who may now be at a low rank but might rise to higher leadership levels (General?) in future years.

You know, with all the crazy schlitz going on with China and the rest of what’s going on with this country, you would think Maxime Bernier would have showed up like the only adult in the room. Watched sports last night …already voted Conservative (the lesser of globalist evils) at an advanced poll a week ago. At my age and stage events like political debates (where Trump is not a participant) send my blood pressure spiking high enough to blow the ears off the sides of my head.
However, in U.S. debates/events where Trump is participating it’s terrific entertainment!
It would be very scary to think of the level of intellect that would be influenced enough to change their voting intentions based on such events. I suppose from a non-ideological perspective, there are two different ways of looking at the JWR issue. There’s the camp saying, no pressure should have been applied, she was empowered and should have been totally free to act as she saw fit. But what other Cabinet minister ever had that privilege?
The other perspective would be, has her case been treated differently because she’s an aboriginal woman, as opposed to a white male, treated roughly in Cabinet by a headstrong leader? It happens a lot in all parties that take power. Politics is a power game, the people who go into it know this going in, and could expect to be dealing with very strong oversight until they got to be the top dog themselves. All of this fake collaboration collegiality talk by leaders in campaigns is designed not as a plan of action but a ploy to get votes from people who think, “that’s very nice, very reasonable sounding.”
Who in politics has ever actually been like that? Perhaps Joe Clark, Stockwell Day, Michael Ignatieff — guys who presented weakly to voters and never formed long-term effective leaderships.
Not saying this as any sort of fan of Justin Trudeau, I think he’s been exposed as the real person he always was, a control freak but what else should we expect of political leaders, would you or I be able to run a political party just acting normally and giving people space? No, because all around you as a leader are other ambitious political sharks who will pounce when there’s blood in the water.
That’s why we are internet pundits and they are political leaders. People don’t want nice guys in politics. It might even work too, I think that’s the essential theory of the Kingdom, a nice guy runs things and everyone gets along. But this world ain’t like that.
