I recently had a conversation with an electrician that I met just this past week and in passing I asked him what he thought about solar panels and wind turbines. I was shocked to learn that he drinks the cool-aid. Said something to the effect that it all would work better if the world were on the same page instead of all the trouble there is pro and against the green movement.

The strategy of the greens, IMHO, is to ignore any downside of wind and solar as they only exist as a narrative to replace fossil fuels. Any narrative will do as long as they can then justify eliminating fossil fuels at any real cost to humanity. The reality is that the unreliables will be doubling or tripling energy costs while maxing out at somewhere between 20 and 30% of any grid with an overly expensive base load completely dedicated to ramping up and down in serving the unreliables. The greens don’t care as they are in the PR business, not engineering. Their enemy is industrial civilization and related prosperity and ironically, a cleaner environment.
On my way to Pickle Lake (what did I do wrong) I stopped at a service station near Thunder Bay. Love that Highway 17. There was a carbon tax sticker on the pump (in French only – WTF near Thunder Bay?) that showed a graph of the carbon tax on gas going from 4.3 cents today to 11 cents by 2020. The graphic was great – it looked like an exponentially increasing rainbow of taxes. Somebody at that gas company loves Doug Ford.

Here in Alberta, we get our rebate right at the pump! There is no effen carbon tax on gasoline or diesel!
A couple of days back I paid 89.9 cents per l of gasoline and 102.9 cents for diesel fuel!

I see the gov’t is handing out subsidies for solar so individuals can install them on their homes, work shops and giving them a great rate of return on hydro electricity. But something happened to the rate of returned hydro for these individuals rate drop…making the solar panel so expensive. Now I have read in an article by experts that the solar and wind turbines have a life expectance of 20 yrs tops.
