      I figured out the reason honey bees are dying off. It’s because they produce twice the honey they did ten years ago.

      1. Because a hive are all clones, they can be wiped out easily by disease. Replacing a hive is a routinely carried out activity. Also, Honey bees are not native to North America so they have little resistance to local diseases.

    So, if or more likely when, old stock Canadians need knee replacements.

    Will they and/or we be in a now extra-long waiting list due to our practicing “Asian” population having tripled post 9/11; and accelerated immigration under the policies of the recent regime that now admits grandparents/seniors and the disabled, as a special category of family re-unification?

    Canada, the migrant haven for the religion of those with needy knees ?

Looks like Justin attending their convention yesterday in Quebec is paying off. But don’t worry the Unifor journalists on Groper’s election coverage panel will keep an eye on things.

  15. Setting the record straight on the benefits, and heavy costs, of immigration to Canada

    In a recent campaign speech, Maxime Bernier, leader of the People’s Party of Canada, cited the results of one of our studies, which showed that recent immigrants are imposing a heavy fiscal burden on Canadians. He used this information to justify his plan to reduce future levels of immigration.

    The CBC had journalist Jonathon Gatehouse do a “fact check” of Bernier’s claim about the fiscal burden. In a publication sponsored by the CBC, he concludes that this claim is “false.” Since this verdict implies that our study also reached false conclusions, we feel compelled to do our own fact check of the analysis produced by Gatehouse.

    When we combined our estimates of taxes paid and benefits received we found that the average recent immigrant in Canada imposes a fiscal burden of $5,300 annually.

    According to government statistics, in 2010 the number of recent immigrants (since 1985) was about 3.7 million. Multiplying this number by $5,300 brings the estimated fiscal burden that year to $20 billion. Since then the stock of immigrants has increased by 250,000 a year and raised the annual fiscal burden in 2018 to over $30 billion.

    1. More than the Military gets annually for defending the country. Almost as much as the Indians. That number per immigrant does not cover the probably 50,000 plus a year foreign students who lap up the freebies big time. Foreign students are never counted although very few of them ever leave.

  16. I now have another reason to want a new country.

    I recently received notice that, because of what I paid in income taxes in recent years, I’m now required to pre-pay them. I can, however, take the chance that I won’t be paying more than the threshold amount, but, if I do, I’ll be subject to charges for not paying in advance.

    Meanwhile, I still have to travel to and from the house I inherited as I’m far from finished with my father’s estate. Among the upcoming expenses is a re-shingling of both the house and the garage and that’ll be at least $10,000.

    Now I have to cough up an amount equivalent to what I might be paying in income tax next year. It just never ends with these sons of unmarried parents, does it?

    1. So you owed more than $3,000 at tax time each of the past couple of years? It happens, particularly to seniors. In the first year, you end up with higher payments because you’re having to pay the whole year’s installments in just two payments (Sep 15 and Dec 15) – and watch those dates as you can be dinged if you pay “late”. Should you still have to pay installments in 2020, there will be four payments (add Mar 15 and Jun 15). At least you get to keep your hard-earned money away from the gov’t a bit longer than employees; they get dinged every pay period.

      1. I could put that money to far better use over the next few months than the government can. Settling an estate doesn’t come cheap.

        Evidently, it thinks I’m too stupid to personally set aside the amount that I would have to pay at the end of April. A flat tax is starting to look good to me.

        1. Get an LOC on your main home, and pay the bstards on time. Typically a low % rate, to manage your short term borrowing needs at minimal cost, and, freedom to stop begging at the bank for a simple , low amount loan that we need from time to time.

          1. I do have a line of credit, but I rarely use it. The last time I did was to pay the fee for probating my father’s will. By the time I finished paying Christie Clark’s government, I could have made a nice down payment on a new pickup truck.

            The government just loves it when someone dies. Yes, it regrets the loss of a source of revenue when a taxpayer is deceased, but it rubs its hands with glee when it thinks of the estate and the beneficiaries. After all, an inheritance is considered by the government as a windfall and must be treated accordingly as it wants its cut.

            I paid the income tax on my father’s estate out of my own pocket, but I had to sell some of the investments I inherited in order to raise the cash. That incurred a capital gain, which I had to report on last year’s tax return. See how it works?

            No, Mr. Morneau, I didn’t win the lottery when my father died. I may have inherited everything, but I had to take care of probating the will and sorting out most of the legal and financial matters by myself at my expense. I have to travel back and forth to the house at considerable personal cost both in time and money. I put a lot of cash into the house this year and I’m not done with that yet.

            Now the munchkins from the tax office come and stick their mitts in my face demanding that I pay next year’s income tax right away…. or else. I guess they figure that I’m just rolling in wealth.

    1. The first sentence from the “Hill Times” in your post, says that some Liberals are thinking of not using Trudeau’s image and name in their campaign posters and literature. They seem to think that if Andrew Scheer launches an investigation by the RCMP they, the Liberals, will be cooked.

      We should be so lucky! Politicians only care about anything around election time.

  25. Here is something happening today that the Unifor media are not saying much about. Trudeau’s CBC barely reports that Justin is forgiving millions of dollars in federal loans to his buddies at Irving Shipyards. Must be an election coming.

On Wednesday he will be avoiding the media and ranting about how world leaders love him at a foreign affairs conference. And everyone is waiting for the Liberals to quickly close down the emergency meeting of the Justice Committee, regarding the ethics report.

  30. After Trudeau thanked journalists at the Unifor convention yesterday for their support, Foreign Affairs Minister Freeland was speaking to Unifor today to make sure journalists were firmly behind Team Trudeau.
