Did anyone seriously think they would stop at electric car subsidies?
The goal is to make the ownership, or opetation, of any vehicle so onerous and cost prohibitive, that only Leo Dicaprio hass a private yacht, and there are never anymore riff raff on their beaches, or their nature trails, or their national parks, . .
This is not some draconian prohibition imposed by the great tyrant.
This is a a bunch of commies coming together and creating the new world as they desire. It’s what they do.
Besides, the new cars can’t be fixed without a degree in computer science.

Speaking as someone who has always done routine maintenance on his own automobiles (I was a DIY’er long before it was a ‘thing’) … my city would have to pry the 3/8” drive Snap On ratchet from my cold dead hands.
PS … there isn’t a drop of used oil that I don’t recycle … both natural and synthetic.
Any ratchet in combination with more than four sockets is considered a “military-type assault” ratchet – these are banned !
There is no legitimate need for such weapons. Combination wrenches are permitted but must be registered if they exceed
10cm in length or 100gr in weight. Regulations concerning awls are currently being developed.
You should see the number of extensions I have for that ratchet! I can get socket on nut literally 36” from my hand. And with the universal joint I can screw-off around corners!!
Within ten more years of “progressive rot”, jurisdictions everywhere will be tripping over themselves in banning the private automobile. There are no limits for believers in unlimited government, particularly when they can cite green theology (AKA, hysteria) as rationale. Face it. Kalifornia is heading backwards to 1984. Not to worry, though. It’s spreading to the rest of this continent faster than head lice. Most notably, Colorado and Texas. I used to encourage people from those states to vote with their feet. Not anymore. They bring their crazy ass ideas about civilization with them. There are locations where it is illegal to catch and store rainwater from your roof. Down in the lower 48, there is a revolution simmering.
