News of this broke early this morning as the plans were in the works, but I went to bed.

Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un’s first two summits were highly choreographed affairs but their third date was an unscripted event seemingly arranged on a social media whim — and threatened at times to descend into chaos.
 
Trump admitted he did not know whether Kim would spurn his advances, delivered via Twitter. “When I put out the social media notification, if he didn’t show up, the press was going to make me look very bad,” the US president said.
 
“So you made us both look good,” he told Kim.
 
The optics of their DMZ dalliance stood in sharp contrast to the made-for-TV blockbusters in Singapore and Hanoi, where everything was precisely arranged down to the last detail.

  1. None of those idiots running for the Democrat nomination would have done this, the President knows how important it is to maintain contact in negotiations, to keep talking until he gets the results that have been out of reach for anyone else in the past ..

His comment about Trump’s sweetie and hope etc. mocking a president who is willing to take immense personal and presidential risks to assure peace with N K … or at least to try to de-fang a tyrant with what amounts to serious peer pressure. Killing him with kindness. Shining a light on KJ Un is good medicine. Keep him engaged. Talking is better than not talking. But what does Akin know about that tactic … he is too busy pimping his hatred for Donald Trump … or so it seems.

That’s what our “dear leader” would do at a moment like this.

    I for one would love to know the overall Cost Difference from a std setup prepared for weeks in advance, as opposed to “hey, I’m gonna be in town, wanna meet up..??” I’m thinking the less folks that are in the know the greater the overall security…plus a few Millions saved.

      1. The fact that they had a brief, unscripted meeting is the result. This is confidence building. After Bolton and Pompeo sabotaged the Hanoi meeting, Trump had to find a way around the Deep State/Cabal.

  6. Kim Jong Un did not invent the Hell that is North Korea. He was born into it. His Father and Grandfather created the prisons and Death Camps. He cannot dismantle them yet, as his own underlings will rise up and kill him if he tries. His goals are to survive and for HIS CHILDREN to survive North Korea. He is riding the Tiger, but how can he and his Family get off?

    He knows that this situation is NOT NORMAL. I think he would like to find a way to normalize life in his half of the Korean Peninsula. How can he do it and still survive? Up until 2017, his only way to survive has been to kill everyone in North Korea that he even thinks may be opposed to him. His only way to keep North Korea under his control was to cede control of his own country’s foreign policy to China.

    Now he has a possible slim hope for himself and North Korea if he can leverage his relationship with the leader of the greatest superpower. But how? How can he trust us?

    How can he turn a murderous snake pit of a government into something that will allow his children to survive? I don’t know how. I think we can help him, but in the mean time people will continue to be killed and tortured. North Koreans will continue to starve, and the survivors will continue to grow up stunted. It will take years to normalize such a screwed up government and society. All the while, North Koreans will continue to be abused by their own government.

    Remember that KJU has his own goals. They are his own survival and the survival of his wife and children. President Trump is offering him a new and different path to survival. One where Kim does not need nukes.

    2. I’d like to thank you for humanising Kim Jong-Un. He really is a misunderstood man who inherited a communist dictatorship from his grandfather and father and who murders those who displease him. He really does love the people he puts in concentration camps or those forcibly repatriated from China. He adores them so much that he publicly executes them. He also loves the kotjebi, children no older than his daughter who beg at train stations because their parents are dead. If only we can offer Kim the same deal we gave to China: survival at the expense of his countrymen and then the world.

      Wouldn’t it be nice to see the South Korean capital awash in flame as Kim Jong-Il envisioned it?

    1. No, they were in the loop. However, they didn’t have the time to alter the plan. How do I know they were in the loop? Well, the first thing they did when they found out this was in the works is immediately contact the press and told them to get someone out to Jimmy Carter for comments on Trump. Carter, of course, went right along and went so far as to say that the current President secured the position illegally.

      Now, why is Carter’s sudden appearance out of the dustbin of history relevant? Well, Clinton (Bill) used him as a special envoy to travel to NK and assure that they weren’t pursuing intercontinental ballistic missiles. He went, chatted, returned and said everything was cool. Weeks or days later, NK launched their first in a series of missiles. Carter’s sudden appearance was to limit the positives of a President traveling to the DMZ or NK (which really is a unique moment in history) by implying that he had done it first, so not that important. The media will diligently leave out that Carter’s involvement was a complete failure. Embarrassingly so.

          3. Extend the graph to 2008 … where wage growth had cratered (thanks Dodd and Frank … for insisting poor people should get mortgages). There was nowhere for wage growth and ALL economic indicators to go, but up. However, at the end of Obama’s passive economic malaise (his “new normal” of high taxes, high medical costs, and anti-business, anti-taxpayer taxation) the wage growth plunged. Trump was elected and he reversed the trend, and has brought wage growth back up to a CONSTANT rate of growth (not the spiky graph of the Obama era). Add to that, tax cuts … and the American people have more disposable income by multiple factors.

    1. Of course it was a move – but the fact remains that Trump made it. There are some things only God knows. Ask yourself, at what point in the meeting did Trump decide to step across the line onto NK territory? No one expected it, and I’m not too sure Trump knew until a second before he did it. Not one thing Kim could do but join him. He knows the world is looking at him so what happens next, only Kim knows for certain. But, what’s for certain. Do you know what it’s like to have so much trouble breathing that your wheezing can be heard a couple of feet away?
