This Is Not Your Grandma’s Humane Society

Doug Ford will be a one term wonder if he ignores low-hanging fruit like this.

Livestock producer groups are speaking out after a court decision this week to drop charges against an animal rights activist who recorded her trespassing on a Lucan-area hog farm multiple times in 2016 and 2017.

The trespasser also admitted to taking animals from the farm. Charges of break and enter and mischief to property worth more than $5,000 were laid, but as Kurtis Andrews, a farm lawyer based at Ottawa, explains, the crown attorney dropped the charges, citing “no reasonable prospect of conviction.”

This most recent dropping of charges spurred Andrews to publish an open letter to the Attorney General of Ontario this week, as Andrews says he’s “outraged” that such brazen disregard for the law would go unpunished.

If you’re in Ontario, call your MPP.

  1. Ford showed his true colours (green and yellow) in January when he appealed a court decision that had given Ontario’s out-of-control OSPCA a long overdue smackdown.

The funny thing is, the same livestock and farm groups that are now expressing concern over this issue gave Kurtis Andrews and the Ontario Landowners Association ZERO SUPPORT when they took on the OSPCA….and had no comment at all when Ford decided to appeal the January court ruling that had taken the OSPCA off their backs.

    1. Your comment reminded me how I got to be where I am today. I look aback to when I submitted a letter to editor in first issue of the Landowner Magazine. Along the way I concluded it’s a loosing battle. Our time & our dime vs. them funded by public dollars to fight us. Can’t sell a chicken. Can’t share a slaughtered pig. Can’t buy milk from a neighbor. Can’t cut a tree. They take a share of anything you do produce to then fight you. Planning and zoning and building regs & codes, forestry by-laws, conservation authority and fisheries regs all tie you up in red tape. UN globalist Agenda 21 – depopulate rural Ontario to make lebensraum for the industrial corporates who could care less about your freedoms and rights- an agenda forced onto the serfs from up high by the deputy ministers who talk their marching orders from the globalists.
Some Con voters still seem to be confused about the “globalist” thingy. If voting made a difference, they wouldn’t allow it.
Thanks for letting me get the rant off.

      1. Quality rant.

“They take a share of everything you produce to then fight you.”

Sums up Canadian government pretty succinctly.

        1. Every government. The trick is to find one that does it the least.

  2. my MPP is a bible thumping useless idiot, so I’ll e-mail my dead dog instead

  3. “If you’re in Ontario, call your MPP.” Sigh…
Kate, you could scour the earth with the most incredible remote-sensing technology, specifically designed to seek out the most useless, spineless, squeamish, pandering, nutless, pathetic, apologetic, unprincipled, wastes of skin in the global human populace, and there’s no way that it could out-perform the Ontario electorate. It’s the one thing that we’re really, really good at anymore. Randy Hillier is a singular and inexplicable phenomenon, so his “conservative” peers escorted him to the exit, to the gleeful applause of the CBC, Toronto Star, etc.
Kind of like Canadian farmers being “represented” by this: https://mailchi.mp/7b028c18b77e/media-release-polluter-pay-decision-a-small-but-important-step-says-nfu-931233?e=08907bafde

  4. Imagine all of the shocked faces when the next trespasser has an “accident”. Sharp implements, power machinery all pose hazards to those unacquainted with them. Not to mention, death by hogs . . . ewww, shudder.

    1. Death by hogs…

… how unfortunate the trespassers opened that particular gate.

But still not worth it, because the farmer would lose everything including his freedom.

Nobody -needs- to be in the pig business. Grow weed in those hog barns, my friends.

  5. As Caledonia should have shown you years ago, rule of law is over. Writing your MP, MLA, editor, … , ain’t gonna accomplish shit.

Step one, is stop paying dues to these associations that were supposed to be guarding the gates.

Step 2, is stop calling the police, since there will be no arrests, no prosecutions, no damages paid.

Step 3, whatever you decide to do after that, a big part of it will probably be having graves pre-dug in various remote locations, and never talking about it.

  6. Then they came for the hog farmer, but I was not a hog farmer.

It seems terrorists of all sorts get a free pass in Canada these days. Even two legged sows.

  7. They’re just saying they’re too busy to enforce the law, so you should do it yourself. As the farmers have hogs, I assume they also have branding irons?

  8. In a country that wasn’t in fact governed by people determined to sell every acre of arable land to the Chinese at a fraction of fair value (q.v. the canola boycott), landowners would be allowed to shoot trespassers dead with impunity. Only very rarely would anything of value be lost.

  9. I believe the modern term is “doxxing” ?

Someone should out these activist cunts. Take a page from their playbook and make their private details public so “someone” on the our side can give them a taste of their own medicine. Home addresses, phone numbers, job addresses.

Well, scratch that last one. Leftist parasites rarely work.

    1. in this case retired civil servant living in a condo in Toronto

  10. Lucan, Ontario. Home of the Black Donnellys, a notorious group of Irish settlers who were murdered by the locals for running a [successful] stage coach operation from Exeter to London and burning barns and cutting out horses tongues and other fun stuff. I lived there for awhile. It’s a place where the farmers drove their tractors to the bar and kids sat in the back of rusty old pickup trucks on empty pails of Roundup. My Grandpa had a farm there for many years. Then one year there wasn’t enough water for the town and the septic system needed upgrading. Massive property tax increases. They planned to build the open septic field across from the public school. I moved before that happened. Something in the water…

When the farmers stop fighting back we are all toast.

    1. “When the farmers stop fighting back we are all toast.”

That would have been about the time supply management entered the picture.

  11. These Animal Rights idiots ideas views of Farm Animals come’s from watching dumb movies with talking piggies’cows Etc in them Crappy movies like Babe,Babe II Pig in the City Gordy and other bits of Hollywood nonsense

  12. Everything government ever touches, turns to shit.

    healthcare (ie. wait lists)
    education
    CSA
    roads
    marriage

And yet, never a shortage of punters who want to keep piling it on.

  13. Used to be that rustling was a capital offense. If the courts let this stuff go, ranchers will be shooting, shoveling, and shutting up.
