True Story

Call: “Good Evening, Mr.Reliable Donor, I’m calling on behalf of the Canadian Cancer Society. How are you this evening?”

Mr. Reliable Donor: “I’m well, thank you”.

Call: “First, let us thank you for your past support. I’m calling to ask if you’d like to contribute again to the fight against cancer.”

Mr. Reliable Donor: “I’m very sorry, but I won’t be giving you any money this year.”

Call: “May I ask why?”

Mr. Reliable Donor: “I can’t afford to because of the carbon tax”.

Try it out for yourselves.

  1. That’s a good one. I’ll have to use it some time. It’s considerably more witty than me simply hanging up when my university alma mater calls to grovel for money.

  2. I have thought about telling businesses that I deal with the same thing, unfortunately they probably won’t be able to connect the dots between my continuing lowered discretionary spending and their voting habits.

  3. telus: “How may I help you?”

me: “I’ve been a faithful customer for over 30 years, but today I’m cancelling my service”

    telus: “Why is that?”

me: “because you support the carbon tax”

    1. JDN: You left out the name of the provider you found that does not support the carbon tax. I would be interested to know, so I can see if they are available to me (in Calgary).

      1. I switched to Shaw. If Shaw shot their mouths off as well I haven’t heard about it. Either way, Telus won’t see business from me. Telus did tweet an apology awhile back that they didn’t intend on their carbon tax support being political.
But WTF does that even mean?! It’s OK for a business to be in support of additional hardship on Canadians, as long as it’s ‘not political’ ?!
I’m now in support of additional hardship on Telus and their shareholders. But it’s not political. Not political at all.

        1. Forrests are stinking dumps of toxic carbon. Spray Roundup on the forrests! Prairie grass too!
Also, real enviormentalist DON’T use heat, nor hot water. Animal don’t, that’s the way nature intended!

  4. The larger crisis in America is that student debt (funding bloated leftist college salaries) is keeping young adults from; marriage, home ownership, and even automobile ownership. Add to that the spiraling increases in taxes, fees, and levys by multiple government agencies, along with higher and higher energy costs … and the long term prognosis is very poor for America.

    1. Leftists don’t believe in marriage, home or automobile ownership, or cheap energy. They do like high taxes and social welfare.

      1. That’s how they get money from the working people, Justin’s “middle class” and of course the wealthy who they abhor.

    2. Actually, intelligence is what’s keeping young men from marriage. The divorce and child-custody laws are skewed heavily against men and the young men of today have watched their fathers, uncles and older brothers lose everything in a divorce (50% of marriages end in divorce and of those 80% are instigated by the wife–because “she’s not happy”). So, they’re staying away from marriage (at least the smart ones are). Without the responsibility of a family…there’s no need to buy a house or a car or even work full time. And the beauty of it is, is that society did it to itself.

    3. debt is slowly crushing the planet. there are very few countries who are not in similar circumstances.

      1. Crushing debt is part of the UN plan.
Debt will be forgiven based on how mush a country de-industrializes.

  5. Most of those “charities” are, in any case, scams intended to finance sinecures for well-connected liberals who can’t secure safe seats in parliament. It’s not worth donating the steam off your piss to most of them.

Donate the money to the conservative blogger of your choice instead. They need it a lot more.

  6. I told the canvasser that I was forced to support TNN so I could not afford to give the canvasser any money. “I’m sure if you ask TNN they’ll give you money”
    “Who is TNN? ”
    “Turdeau, Notley, and Nenshi”
    The canvasser was stunned.

  7. …and furthermore Mr. Worthy Charity I would suggest you canvass PM Trudeau who seems to have a heart of gold and the inclination to spend tax dollars on every worthy cause going. Why would your charitable request be treated any differently?

    1. Maybe their charity could raise the funds within, kind of like the budget will balance itself.

Goodness, we have stupid leaders. But wait, look at who put them there.

  8. Good for those above who have the opportunity to do this. You have the satisfaction of doing this, and although the business probably won’t change its stance if it is supportive of the carbon tax nor change its stance if it only gets a few cancellations, you will be making the person on the other end of the phone think and maybe think about who they will vote for in the next election.

  9. Indeed. When TVO called years ago during their annual begathon, I told them I had already donated. The woman said, “You did?” “Yup” I said “already donated it to McGuinty for his health tax. You’re too late, I’m afraid.”

    1. There’s a festering pile of leftists I wish we could wean off the public teat.

Starting with that alt-Left polynesian head impersonator.

  10. I’m sure that if people curse and swear at the gas station (at the high prices) the weather will change for the better. Umm, sorry, will change for the worse. Isn’t that the objective?

Anyone who thinks it would be a great idea to return the climate to the 19th century might want to have a good close look at 19th century weather records. There are some available, Toronto started recording in 1840. How would you like the 70 inches of snow they had in March 1870? Justin wants you to experience that.

  11. When the funding drives would start no matter the source of the calls, I used to put on my very best Chinese Restaurant accent. Would go like this. “You like chickee balls? Chickee fried rice and sweet and sour chickee ball. How much you want, no matter what they say just pretend you don’t hear and keep asking for their take out Chinese food order. How many chickee ball you like. One year Mothers Against Drunk Drivers kept hounding so I switched to, I always drink and drive, that’s what we do around here in Northern Alberta, love drinking and driving and riding around drunk in my pick up shooting at coyotes. They are speechless and stammer and finally hang up.

    1. MADD came to my door the same time it’s president wrote that only union run government liquor stores must be allowed. They were told exactly why they were not getting a donation.

    2. lol !!!

I got a call from whatthefcukever claiming to be in the business of property security. (one of those telemarketers that spoof the ph #)
my response in a suitable accent.
“you are not henry. you are govinderjin and you are calling from mumbai.
c tell me how to say fuck off in hindu?”

      that one didnt call back.
the other trick is to actually book the appointment for [insert home maintenance service here] then when the truck shows up, keep them waiting in the driveway whilst you call up the telemarketer and tell them youre going to keep doing this every time they harass you. and if you cant get thru to the telemarketer, call up the number on the truck and tell THEM your plan.

one time, back in the old DOS days, I wrote up a 1 page GWBASIC routine to call their number and wait a random time and hang up, and wait a random time and call back, in an infinite loop which I ran
      all
      day
      long.
then I halted the program and told them about this little ‘taste of their own medicine’
squawk squawk squawk about calling cops.
go ahead, I already did and explained WHY and you started this and you wont stop calling, so you go ahead and do that.
