  1. Confirmation, Carbon tax has nothing to do with the environment and everything to do with wealth distribution.

    Trudeau will take your money and hand it over to someone he thinks he can convince to vote for him.

    1. The so-called “Party of Science” has grossly distorted itself, calling CO2, “POLLUTION”.

      This is an absolute gross exaggeration of a building block of life.

      So, by Liberal left logic processes, water and oxygen are pollution as well.

      1. The Sask Party is just a stupid as the Federal Lieberals believing that CO2 is a pollutant. We are doomed either way. If anyone seriously believes CO2 is a pollutant, they should fight the cause by stopping breathing, exhaling CO2. Too many folks failed biology and chemistry. CO2 is plant food. The more CO2 in the atmosphere, the greener the planet, more food for the world’s population when it flat tops at 11 billion. 400ppm is short of the target of 800ppm. We need more, not less, emitters.

    2. Some of that money will be going directly to the UN. We already contribute a lot for women’s causes around the globe and climate change impact elsewhere — even though we are in no way responsible for “climate change”. Under the Liberals, Canada is a UN vassal state. This is not an exaggeration, there is plenty of evidence.

It goes up again tomorrow. It gets rough, I’ll buy another. It will be more visible on my property once these leaves are gone & I want people to see it & ask what it is. If they are even curious.
          Most folks living in my section of Calgary are from some foreign country & they know nothing about this place, or even want to.

How else could an increase in equalization to Quebec be rationalized given the present revenue challenges these provinces face . We don’t vote for him and we are going to pay.   5. Sounds like you will need to fill out the appropriate new form to get a credit against taxes paid. That one is easy to manipulate so that few other than part timers and students will get anything. In any case, any new tax loses at least the first 40% in new CRA hires to administer the tax in Ottawa.

  6. There’s two things I’d like to know 1) how much will it cost the economy (in dollars) per year at the various, increasing dollars per tonne tax rates and 2)how much will it reduce global warming (in degrees Celsius) in various time periods eg. 25, 50, 100 years.

    Producing the cost/benefit ratio should be mandatory but I’ve yet to hear any proponents of the carbon tax answer those two basic questions. “Polluters must pay” is a meaningless slogan. If you’re paying $2 billion per tonne of tax per year and only expecting a .0002C difference in temps in 50 years then taxpayers have the right to know, judge the effectiveness and then vote accordingly.

    If the tax is insuring ourselves against imminent global heat doom, then it’s fair to ask how much doom will be prevented by Canadians paying $50 per tonne to heat their homes and drive to work in one of the coldest countries in the world.

If we had a honest media this guy would be a house hold name. If Dr. Michaels was allowed on TV as much as, say, Bill Nye then this TAX would not of gotten off the table.

Meanwhile there is no carbon tax and lower taxes in the U.S. Hmmmmm, I wonder if companies will move to the States. That would certainly solve our carbon problem.

  14. Well the CBC site is now closed to commenting. I managed to post a few comments and then was blocked. I believe CBC did not like the tenor of the comments as they generally were not supportive of the Liberal Carbon Tax. For what it is worth, here is my unposted comment:
    “Climate change will happen with our without our participation. It is a natural phenomenon. Taxing fuel and energy to reduce climate change will do absolutely nothing to “save the planet”. Canadians are being duped.”

  15. The oddest thing about this claim that most people will get back more than they pay is that they are not clear on who will not. Like who exactly will pay for all this largess? I presume that would be a lot of businesses. Any business facing a higher tax will be passing that on to customers. Really, I am insulted by their attempt to make this sound appealing and the phony “Here’s a tax, but no cost to you :-).” Anyone believing this needs to be given an IQ test before being allowed to vote. I hope the Liberals have just shot themselves in the foot.

    1. Look at the BC model. If an individual makes more than X$, then you don’t get a rebate. In BC, that threshold is around $30k a year, adn pro-rated.

      I’ve watched my kids collect this, for doing nothing. Its such a joke! Its a wealth redistribution scheme, nothing more, and saves NOTHING from rising CO2 levels, despite Turdope’s claim.

    New Brunswick, which has already surpassed its emission goals, has still been deemed a lucky winner of the Stupid Tax.
    New Brunswick’s contribution to reducing our standard of living in order to increase the Prime Fool’s Favorite Dictatorship’s(sans Uncle Fidel) is as follows:

    $128 per person………$64 for 2nd person in couple….$32 per child.

    All for just 4.42 cents per litre.

    Average family gets $256 for a measly $202 cost.

    Forever to be known as the Stupid Tax, as in, how stupid do you have to be to believe the Liberals about……well, anything actually.

    The funny part is New Brunswickers weren’t supposed to find out until after the election that the Lieberals were lying about their plan to have a plan with no cost.

    Of course, it matters not, as Canada officially jumped the shark when it elected the current flaming embarrassment/non/occupant of 24 Sussex Drive.

    Let’s be realistic here, there’s no coming back from such world class idiocy.

  21. Here in sunny Manitoba, they will force this tax on us because our Premier finally smartened up and decided to oppose it in whole rather than just in part. Our winters may be sunny but they are damned cold, and we will have to pay this ridiculous tax on natural gas to heat our homes. In most cases, we burn natgas at 90% efficiency. We can avoid the tax by switching to heating with hydro generated electricity which I suppose is something the carbon taxers want to encourage us to do. If I do that, I will divert electricity from the export market where it currently displaces natural gas or coal generation at 40% efficiency. So the tax actually will encourage us Manitobans to make decisions which result in more, not less CO2 going into the environment. Such is the rationality of the Liberal carbon tax.

The US cuts taxes, encourages investment, individual liberty and choices. Canada just sucks from anyone, personal or corporate who has money or assets.     At what time does Western Canada revolt, petition US to annex us, and get something done, and restore freedoms our forefathers fought for.

    Many of Canada’s settlers fled Socialist, Lenin, Stalin, risked everything for freedom and a chance to succeed. Are we willing to submit and simply allow this group, this mantra, this useless entity, supposed a federal government to destroy and take away??

  27. If I’m not mistaken, is it not unconstitutional to levy a tax in some provinces and exempting other provinces, particularly if that province refuses to implement said tax?
    Other point.
    This tax will have to be remitted to the feds which means the fed has to absorb the cost of collecting it.
    Lastly, I recall an election where an opposition party campaigned on the promise to “keel da gee est tee”. Seem to recall that party did ok in that election. Hopefully history repeats and the liberals are reduced to unofficial party status, which would be even sweeter as when the PC party got swept they argued they still deserved official status due to the PC senators in the senate. Would be ironic in such a scenario when those senators that got kicked out of his caucus are prevailed on to declare they are in the liberal caucus to hang on to official status.
    One can dream.

    Notely does not want pipelines either, so Saskatchewan actually has no allies in this fight. Notely wins.

    Quebec stops pipelines. Quebec collects equalization. I do not see Moe talking any not withstanding action. Quebec wins.

    I suspect Moe will bide his time by talking, making threats, collecting legal opinions, more talking, more legal opinions, talking, … but never actually take any action. Therefore Moe doesn’t want pipelines either.

    If it were me, I would have already mined the port of Montreal; nothing in nothing out. Ditto for Vancouver.
