      2. One thing is to legalize use the other is to legalize growing it. Now potheads can grow dope in rented apartments. They cannot be kicked out for growing it. For pot to grow moisture and warmth is needed. Moisture and warmth leads to mold. Mold equals property damage.       5. The thing with being a landlord is almost all the regulation favours the renter. If you get a bad one ,in particular one who knows how to manipulate the system you have very little practical recourse . Sure you can sue someone who has nothing. I got rid of my last rental when I was informed utility bills were the responsibility of the property owner should the renter default. I wonder why there isn’t lots of affordable rental . Couldn’t possibly be regulations.

      Leave current legislation in place and when potheads continue being a nuisance people may well turn towards what I propose.

      As for cop judgment, with alcohol there is reliable technology that can be used to determine if you are over the limit or not (how reasonable the limits are is a different story) there isn’t one for dope. Anyone who ever got a blatantly bull$hit ticket knows well how reliable and reasonable cop judgment is on day they haven’t given out enough tickets and the shift is about to end.

    1. The disgusting, skunky smell that is third only to the smell of feces and death, in my opinion, will become ever more ubiquitous, and there will be virtually no recourse available to combat it.
    2. The percentage of our population that will succumb to dependence on pot will increase maybe 3-5% over current levels. I recall, as a teenager, the crap was everywhere, but it didn’t tempt me in the least, as I knew what I wanted to do (Army), and I knew that usage would be a barrier to entry. Conversely, if it was legal back then, I likely would have tried it, and perhaps may have become a stoner instead.

    I weep for our youth. There’re not strong enough to resist the wave. They are weak, and this will make them weaker.

    Now that marijuana is legalized, what happens to every prison inmate convicted of breaking drug laws? Does Canada empty their prisons of every former marijuana offender? That ought to be a giant societal kick in the crotch.

    1. I doubt that possession was a criminal offense to start with and I don’t believe there are any people in jail for simple possession. Distribution is a different story and that is still illegal.

      There are only 40,000 inmates currently in prisons here,and if a couple hundred are released early, it won’t make a bit of difference to the country.

  15. I think the serious problems arrive when the edibles do. Those who only indulge in it occasionally can easily eat one too many Gummy Bears. It also allows the truly stupid who can’t not start the day without it to indulge more frequently as they remove the incriminating stink. And although I’m in favour of decriminalization and some aspects of legalization, making all types of treats like a wall of adult candy will increase, not decrease the amount of issues with not just teenagers, but even younger kids. Preteens don’t typically want to inhale burning weed, but brownies are yummy. I think we might see average use and percentage of population use rise significantly over the years.
    And growing pot in a tenement shouldn’t trump property rights, ever.

      Same here. In 1978, I went to two rock concerts in Calgary in which it seemed like every other person was smoking the stuff. I went home feeling ill each time, particularly after the first one as it was held inside the old Stampede Corral, so the smoke had nowhere to go. The second one was in McMahon Stadium, so even a slight breeze would take it away so I didn’t feel as lousy when I left.

  20. Heard that now there is an expected increased visits to emergency rooms from kids “accidentally” ingesting so-called consumables. Although there is assurances from the experts (“sigh” whatever would we do without experts) that it won’t kill them, what they are not saying is if the experience doesn’t have a psychological or traumatic effect.
    This could open up a whole new revenue stream for lawyers looking to represent cases of PTSD.

They have had to keep prices lowish because of the established black market. Also, many doctors are opposed (so why did they refuse to endorse the Harper Health Canada statement sbout the dangers? Instead the CMA turned it into a political thing. It need not have been. Common sense was called for and people need to be informed. Now it turns out you can also order online. So what prevents under age kids from ordering online — or getting their 19 year old buddy to order? I think we have a mess on our hands. This was happening before, but I suspect it will get worse. I find the smell unpleasant and hope I am not smelling it everywhere.

    There is a $652.00 fine for smoking in public in Manitoba and a $2,542.00 fine for growing it at home.

    1. I recall one Friday night from my HS days when my friends and I shared a bong and then, in an act of pure HS manliness … I drank the bong water. Yep, this “bible thumping” Christian was far from pure. And it goes without saying that I was NO Tim Tebow … saving his virginity for marriage.

      Well … my friends and I entered the Friday night basketball game, and it was the shortest bb game in history. Time became so distorted, that the entire game appeared to have taken 5 minutes. I remember conversations with people who all had that “what the hell are you on?” look on their faces. I have no idea how I got home, nor do I have any memory of anything after the bb game. I woke up Saturday at noon … still totally high. My high lasted well into Sunday, making me want to laugh through the entire Sunday sermon (NME … insert joke here).

      It was that experience that put me off Dope forever. I hated how it took total control of my every sense from only 5min. of smoking. I would have to have drunk liquor all night long, nonstop, to have become THAT totally out-of-it. There was no hangover … if you consider being “high” for three days straight … not a hangover.

      THIS experience is how I view all dopers. Walking around in a perpetual state of distorted reality. NOT a good look for a healthy society. So if you see that … “what the hell are on?” … look on my face, you might want to consider healthy sobriety as an alternative.

    You should be out dancing in the streets, celebrating and rejoicing that the golden age of (post-national, sharia-compliant, carbon-neutral, gender-balanced Soros vassal) Canada has at last arrived. History will see us as equal to the glory of ancient Athens and Rome for the wisdom of the greatest prime minister we have ever known. The name “Canada” will resound for the next thousand years because of October 17, 2018.

    Other countries, post-national or not, will seek to imitate, but never equal or surpass us, because of this measure. “A Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian” will be spoken with the same pride as “civis romanus sum” was two thousand years ago.

    The act which made this possible will be considered one of the greatest laws ever enacted, on par with the American Declaration of Independence and Britain’s Magna Carta for its historical significance.

    This decision will make the wisdom of Solomon and Socrates be like mere piffle in comparison.

  30. I bet I’m the only person on this thread that’s a tad high after taking 10 mg of Rene Nepalese about a hour ago. (capsules, no smoking) Funny thing, according to the site, it’s grown somewhere in Saskatchewan.
    I guess with the OCS I’ll soon be able to support local growers instead of importing it from the good prairie folks…ha i said spoon instead of soon….funny, isn’t it…what?

The effects of marijuana will stay in your system for close to a 160 days, while accumulating, and compounding effects with repeated use, while alcohol metabolizes out of the body in approximately three days. We treat alcohol very seriously, regulate, fine, jail, impound and denigrate it’s users.

    The marijuana is being allowed in order to line the pockets of a select few and make more of the population compliant. The negative effects will far outweigh any advantage. There will be decreased production, intelligence, and population. As time progresses there will be more crime, worse and decaying neighborhoods, more vandalism, and less civility. The government will turn to prosecution in order to keep the consumers lined up outside their doors, and the region will attract people from other places who’s only ambition in life is to smoke pot.

    The party promising to cancel this stupidity will get my vote.

  34. Anyone who believes that legalization will keep profits out of the hands of criminals is simply ill-informed. Cartel activity in Colorado is far higher today than it was before legalization.
