    1. You’ll know the rule of law has been restored when we hear the testimony, in open court and not 35 years after the fact, of people who clearly did not make up their stories of sexual outrages against their person, and are mostly lucky to have survived their ordeals at all.

    What happened to junk scientist Al Gore’s 2009 prediction that there was high probability the arctic ice cap would be gone by 2013 to 2016?

    1. I have a friend who goes insane over the idea that the polar bear population is decreasing because of global warming. Not sure if I wanted to hurt her feelings by sending that to her!

    2. In the 1960’s, my father worked with the Federal Department of Transport, Edmonton, which also administered the Yukon and NWT. There was a finite window for shipping from end of April to end of June, in which to barge up supplies on the Mackenzie River. I remember him telling us at dinner of one foolish contractor who thought he could ship supplies in July/August. But it was too late. The contractor was super “P’O’d” that my father (himself a former contractor) insisted on holding him to the terms of the contract (Dad had told him to ship in either May or June) to have the project completed. The contractor thought the government should reimburse him for having to air ship the supplies into Inuvik.
      It seems nothing has changed in the 50+ years since.

We had a tragic event like this in B.C. a few years back when a gravel truck lost it’s brakes on the hill leading to the B.C. ferry terminal at Horseshoe Bay.The truck crashed into a vehicle at the bottom,waiting in the ferry lineup. About five were killed. The truck was driven by a “South Asian”, it was found that only one wheel had a working brake, the rest were worn out.

      The driver’s defence was that he was retarded, had the mental age of about 12 years old. Of course, he had no licence.

      Cultural differences were taken into account in the trial. I don’t remember the outcome, but I’m sure the driver has gotten over his trauma and is now a useful productive citizen.

      Do you think there was any PTSD after Shiloh? Nah. It hadn’t yet been invented.

      During the first day of battle, 1/8 and maybe as much as 1/4 of the Union Army fled to Pittsburgh Landing to escape the slaughter. At least 5,000 and maybe as many as 10,000 men….. hiding and prepared to surrender. Most went on to redeem themselves later however. Probably happened with the Southern troops as well but history has no information about this.

      Some parallels to the verbal civil war going on in the U.S. today. Character assassinations in the northern press: Sherman is Insane, Grant is a drunk, Lincoln is a rube. The irony of history.

    I always thought astronauts were pretty cool dudes till Marc Garneau showed himself to be a Liberal scumbag. Now this dude backtracks on a pretty innocuous quote because its from that awful Winston Churchill. Jesus wept what a coward. He’s going to educate himself on Churchill’s atrocities and racist views…and he might want to get his balls out of his wife’s purse while reading a real history book or two. Of course he’s getting it from both sides now so maybe he doesn’t need them out in No Man’s Land.

Of the secret society members though, surely all they do is wear funny hats and drive scooters, right?

            Surely they’re no more nefarious than that, and have never infiltrated police precincts, law courts, the media, and politics.

            And believing that that is all they are, what choice does one have but to mock those who point out facts involving members of those societies?

            Although one has to wonder why anyone doesn’t take the Jesuits at their word. If you read their oaths, they clearly state what their goals are. I guess you’d have to believe they’ve been entirely unsuccessful for the last 500 years. And surely if they had any success, bright guys like JJM would figure it out and let the rest of us know.

        You are entitled to your opinions, of course. With all due respect, if I may, you, collectively, are incorrect in some things. To qualify my statement, I might remind you that Garneau ran in a BQ environment. ( lost to Meili Faille in Vaudreuil-Soulanges PQ. It was the era of the Sponsorship Scandal ) He then changed ridings for Westmount-NDG, a more Anglo one. Garneau tried for the leadership but lost to the sharks within the party.

        IMO he ought to cross the floor and run for Andrew Scheer’s position. The next Federal election could yield another Trudeau disaster.

        It is difficult to predict what Max Bernier will clobber together in the way of a National Party before the next election. By then the country will be left shattered. It is, already crumbling. A Conservative Government under Marc Garneau might be just what Canada needs to be saved. That is, provided the man is up to the challenge.

        I guess timing is everything in politics.

          No matter the intelligence, education, training, or advisers, in the end character is essential. Joining the Liberals is pretty much a disqualifier in my book.

          Lets not forget that astronauts are just civil servants in Canada. Considering our space program they are not much different from bureaucrats except for their qualification to be passengers. I compare the smugness evident from Canadian astronauts to a video I saw of Story Musgrave at a Science Fiction Book awards convention. Interviewers wanted to talk about his career and hero worship him, but he was more interested in talking about the great books up for awards. He acted like being an astronaut was no different from long haul trucking, and with the number of flights and hours in space, he pretty much has it down to that kind of routine.
