Dick’s Sporting Goods (DKS.N) reported a bigger-than-expected drop in quarterly same-store sales on Wednesday and forecast further declines this year, hit by tighter gun controls and a drop in Under Armour sales.

 

Shares in the company fell as much as 10 percent after it posted a 1.9 percent drop in same-store sales, bigger than analysts’ average estimate of a 0.62 percent dip.

 

Dick’s was one of the first retailers to stop selling assault rifles and high-capacity magazines as well as bar the sale of guns to people under age 21 following a massacre at a Florida high school in February.

 

The company had predicted that its hunting guns business would be pressurized by the change in policy but said the move should also attract more people to its stores.

    Dick’s never sold assault rifles. And they wonder why we accuse the news of being fake.

  4. Poor Under Armor. They can’t win.

    First, they dump sponsorship of a hunter’s wife’s business because the hunter legally took a bear by spear and the SJW’s were noisily appalled. This caused the first boycott of UA, by hunters.

    Then, UA’s CEO said something nice about Trump, causing the SJW’s to again become appalled, and so they started their own boycott of UA.

    You walk a fine line trying to do business these days.

  5. Tiny difference in the whole scheme of things. From my admittedly anecdotal experience dicks is not a big player in the firearms business.

    And their stores are more urban in focus than bass pro/Cabelas.

      2. And that was a very small number. Dicks and other sporting goods retailers that aren’t focussed on hunting have far larger issues – just check out the long term stock price history- they are off more than 50% – the decline started well before this issue.

        1. True … based upon the wide variety of sporting goods sold at their stores. But my local Dicks (that doesn’t sound right) is where I go for my fishing license(s), lures, and some outdoor paraphernalia. I don’t buy their crap soccer gear however.

          But …

          I would be VERY interested to see Dicks (again, not right) … total sales figures broken-down by department and category. Only THAT information would support your claim that this LOSS of business and customers (me) … will have no impact on the bottom line.

    Dick chose sides.
    Why Dick had to choose, no one knows.
    Did Dick choose the half of America that owns 90% of the guns?
    The half that is measurably more intelligent, tolerant and ambitious?
    The half that has most of the disposable income, because they are out working and producing?
    The half that is pretty much willing to live-and-let-live unless directly insulted by SJW posturing by stupid corporations?
    No.
    Dick chose the other half.
    The half that will, inevitably, turn on Dick anyway because one can never be sufficiently SJW.
    Should we feel sorry for Dick?
    No, Dick made his choice.
    Just remember – don’t be a Dick.

  7. Dick’s doesn’t know who their demographic is. No, Dick’s…leftards will not start frequenting your stores to buy pink, frilly backpacks just because you threw your demographic under the bus. Whoever, your CEO is Dick’s, fire him/her. Whoever are the advisors to your CEO…fire them too.

  9. I am convinced that blacks have a bag of scrabble tiles at the hospital and just pick a bunch out for the baby’s name. The Toronto Sun seems to dedicate pages 5-6 to the latest black shootings and murders. Allowing thousands of blacks to illegally migrate into Canada from Nigeria, Somalia, Haiti etc. should not be a problem IMHO.

      It’s far worse than you know.

      And that’s JUST the native-born names … our tongues and mouths cannot even form the sounds of her FOB Mongolian students

          It’s pronounced with letters, vowels, clicks, and grunts that don’t appear in the English spelling … if I were his teacher … I’d have called him ‘Manny’

  11. Dick’s thinks the loss of sales from pro-2nd amendment customers will be offset by attracting new customers who think guns are icky. Good luck with that strategy.
