Yeah well we “deleted” our cable TV in spring 2000 and didn’t get any social media accounts because, get this, WE WERE CONSERVATIVES. We as individual people are comfortable being in solitude with ourselves and in our own minds.
We meet people and talk to them face to face and when we have to phone people we do not text them, we phone them.
Gee willikers. Our(wife and me since the ’80s) policy is to be people-on-people(plus record as much as possible because everything is going flakey-sideways-snakey-apeshit barking-at-the-moon crazy)/rant off
and by way, SDA’s Captcha SUCKS.
I have a 55″ 4k monitor and a computer which runs like a Lamborgini and most of the Captcha pics ARE CRAP
I REALLY do not like identifying captcha ‘storefronts’ … most of which appear to be in sh*thole countries, and therefore unrecognizable as proper storefronts …
Huh, I just click a box stating I’m not a robot. No pictures.
sometimes. not always. that said, a robot could easily defeat the system.
Like wow
It is a very common thing to be able to find a majority that is willing to trade freedom for the illusion of security.
How do you think we all got to where we are today. The so called greatest generation voted for all the rules and regulations and such that suffer under.
” The so called greatest generation voted for all the rules and regulations and such that suffer under.”
Yes. If the Nazis were so bad, why did the “Greatest Generation” (and here I’m talking about American Union Workers) strike for higher pay 3000+ times during WWII? Yes I know that WWII happened during the “Great Depression” and that the Unions were fighting not just for better pay/benefits but more power.
Nevertheless the Great Depression did not end until 1955. Imagine being a non-Union worker and the pressure/inflation put upon your household economy.
In essence Unions are the prime driver of Inflation. And Yet ….if ALL general work and services were Unionized and were to strike for higher wages and benefits, the entire Union Collective Bargaining Strike model would quickly collapse because it is unsustainable if these Union Parasites did not have a private Work/Owner Class to be parasites upon.
Indeed, all workers have to do to get a share of the Owner Profits, is to spend their Union Dues on Company Shares and Reap the Benefit of genuine Investment.
Unsurprising to find most people are willing to trade many other things of real value for things of illusory value.
I don’t have Social media accounts but I still have plenty of living breathing friends and acquaintances? How can that be?
Hey folks if you are worried about facebook et al using your data: well just remember the NSA in the US has it all, and I suspect the Chinese and Russian intelligence agencies have it all too.
“Hey folks if you are worried about facebook et al using your data: well just remember the NSA in the US has it all, and I suspect the Chinese and Russian intelligence agencies have it all too.”
I guess you caught the same Senate Hearing I did today…..Must be scary for the present Democrat operatives & FBI scum (Mueller)… I am less confident that a hidden data dump is what the Constitution had in mind. What happens when another Obama is elected and he needs to weaponize that shit….AI bots will rule the world….
I use a twitter and facebook account for one reason only, to have access to the post of others on those venues. I do not bother post. When I do, I get banned,
I did, however, dump Netflix … with the Obamas and Susan Rice now integral parts of that company, it can only be another Starbucks in the making,. I refuse to support those commie bastards. Plus I heard they just created a new policy for their employees/slaves, they are not allowed to ‘look’ at another person or co-worker for more than 5 seconds. That sounds like how you might treat a slave. That is insanity.
We got rid of Netflix. I deleted my Yahoo account, because their new Terms and Conditions (The Oath) seek to own members, and my Facebook use is decreasing by the day. YouTube and Google are far from ideal, but their advantages outweigh disadvantages.
I mentioned this in “Twitter Rules: Biology is hate”, but could go here too.
A good friend of mine told me that if I wasn’t on facebook that I would never hear from him again, it has been three years so far.
The Deplorable Phantom replied “Good thing he didn’t borrow your ladder.”
He DID borrow my ladder, before the facebook ultimatum, he broke both of the plastic ends off of the top. He said that it was no big deal…I had to pay for and fix the ladder myself.
You call that a GOOD friend???
Actually, he was a good friend, even with his NDP faults, but that was then, this is now.
” – and 62 percent wanted more regulation of such platforms”
By all means – let’s PASS MORE LAWS!!! A piece I read today by a lady for whom I have a lot of respect, on a website for which I have a lot of respect:

Nice. You’re respecting a Yankee who labours under a national racial psychosis that elected Barak Hussein Obama TWICE .
Yes it is 2018. NO America and Americans have not gotten over their Racial Psychosis. Americans are the most heavily armed people in the World, they are armed with the most destructive nuclear weapons and delivery systems in the world, and DAMNED Proud of them. However they are, as a group, INSANE. Not only are Americans INSANE, but they are PROUD of their INSANITY and any Independence from any possible sane people who are not Americans.
It seems like a Global recipe for disaster to me. We can never get well while the Yankees are Unwell.
I only hope the Russians and ChiComs see it the same way. Who wants to challenge the Crazy Guy?!
the truly insane people are those who believe in a socialist utopia.
No social accounts. Very few friends. Zero problems.
I think you just described me. Friends are most often transitory. It seems that the old ‘familiarity breeds contempt’ is still valid. I see friends turn on each other for no good reason other than … they get tired of hearing the same old bullshit from the same old bullshitter? I dunno, but I have been tossed under the bus in two separate situations. No real reasons that I can discern, but tossed I was, nonetheless, by folks I actually loved and cared about …. best of friends for many years. I did learn from that. I now do not let anyone get too close and I don’t trust anyone anymore. I now have a few acquaintances, but no ‘friends’. It’s too much trouble. Thank heavens I have good brothers and a good wife of over 40 years. And my cat has never let me down. So … it’s down to family and pets, all others need not apply.
The way to look at all social media is as a marketing platform. I don’t mean for Acme Widgets, I mean for Auntie Flo. The vast majority of what your “friends” are posting is to market themselves as wise or insightful or caring or what have you. I had a friend who had a conversation with her daughter on Facebook about what they would do after school that day. This was your typical divorced mother situation but I had the distinct impression they’d had breakfast together. Thats what tripped the light for me.
It’s a pretty jaded perspective, but it explains a lot of behaviour. I’m not saying this is a conscious thing, just a result of how social networks are constructed.
