  2. I don’t know if it is out of order to tout a book here. If it is, I apologize to our host.

    If you want to read a fantastic expose this summer of where and how society in the western liberal democratic world and Canada in particular has succumbed to Marxism then this is a book for you. Only in the US is the fight between freedom and social progressive still going on and the fanatical hate for Trump is the most open manifestation of this war.

    2. Thanks Ken. I appreciate suggestions like this — books, films, etc. Some time ago someone mentioned the French TV series called the French Village. I tracked it down and enjoyed it so much. So suggestions welcome.

  7. I recommend ‘The Putin Interviews | Vladimir Putin vs. Oliver Stone’ | SHOWTIME Documentary (via Crave TV)…Informative and fascinating, especially the last part, which deals with current issues. I’ll likely view it a second time; the subtitles whip by too quickly.

        I’ve been to several university convocations and I barely remember who the guest speakers were. Only one of them said anything worth listening to.

  13. The Globe and Mail’s Campbell Clark posted a story describing the inner workings of the negotiations between Bill’s Morneau’s Finance department and Kinder Morgan. Needless to say, Mr. Campbell is an uber-mouthpiece for the federal Liberal party — nearly all Globe writers support the Liberals — but given that, as a staunch Liberal Campbell has an ear inside of Morneau’s office. Anyways in today’s article he stated that Kinder Morgan has no intention now of building the pipeline. And given that no sane corporation will buy the pipeline (to expand it), this is saying the expanded project is essentially dead. This, from a Liberal mouthpiece. (Sorry I don’t have the link, but I am in a hurry for a doctor’s appointment).

    1. Let’s see now…. First we had the west coast tanker ban. Northern Gateway’s been cancelled. Energy East is history. Keystone XL might yet be torpedoed, even though Trump revived the American side of it. Now Kinder Morgan.

      Meanwhile, Quebec can build pipelines and import oil by ship without any restrictions and few regulatory hurdles.

      So, does anybody really believe that all that was because of environmental concerns?

      1. Well I don’t believe this is about environmental concerns. I am wondering what was behind the Quebec antagonism to Energy East which I would have guess would have been beneficial for them.

        1. Western oil is not wanted in Quebec because Power Corporation makes huge profits from importing ME oil,it’s as simple as that. Paul Desmarais has as much influence over Liberal politicians in this Country as George Soros and The Clintons combined have over U.S. Democrats.

          It isn’t and never has been about the environment, only about PC’s profits.

          1. The thought occurred to me that since the Trudeau fortune came from selling gasoline, where did the oil that was refined to produce that fuel come from? Perchance the same source as for Desmarais?

            If that’s the case, that would explain Prince Dressup’s hostility towards Alberta as it would affect–wait for it!–his personal fortune as surely he must still have financial interests in selling gasoline.

            Maybe he should change his surname to Clinton…..

    The driver engaged Autosteer and Traffic Aware Cruise Control on multiple occasions during this drive cycle. She repeatedly cancelled and then re-engaged these features, and regularly adjusted the vehicle’s cruising speed.
    Drivers are repeatedly advised Autopilot features do not make Tesla vehicles “autonomous” and that the driver absolutely must remain vigilant with their eyes on the road, hands on the wheel and they must be prepared to take any and all action necessary to avoid hazards on the road.
    The vehicle registered more than a dozen instances of her hands being off the steering wheel in this drive cycle. On two such occasions, she had her hands off the wheel for more than one minute each time and her hands came back on only after a visual alert was provided. Each time she put her hands back on the wheel, she took them back off the wheel after a few seconds.
    About 1 minute and 22 seconds before the crash, she re-enabled Autosteer and Cruise Control, and then, within two seconds, took her hands off the steering wheel again. She did not touch the steering wheel for the next 80 seconds until the crash happened; this is consistent with her admission that she was looking at her phone at the time.
    The vehicle was traveling at about 60 mph when the crash happened. This is the speed the driver selected.
    The driver manually pressed the vehicle brake pedal fractions of a second prior to the crash.
    Contrary to the proper use of Autopilot, the driver did not pay attention to the road at all times, did not keep her hands on the steering wheel, and she used it on a street with no center median and with stoplight controlled intersections. ”

  15. In which Christie Blatchford gives Kathleen Wynne a thorough tongue bath.

    Even if she’s correct and Wynne is “smarter, better informed and more capable than Doug Ford,” it only makes her more reprehensible for the economic damage she’s done to Ontario. It’s one thing to screw up because you’re stupid, it’s quite another to have done so intentionally being smarter, better informed and more capable.

    1. That’s a good point. I get the impression that Wynne is driven by her competitiveness, rather than by what is prudent and is in the best interests of Ontarians.

      1. One has to realize that, for all of her bluster, Kathleen Wynne has very low self-esteem and that all of the decisions are a mask for her own neediness. Indeed, her whole lesbian experience came out of a personal search through modern self help literature (the who am I, and why am I here questions) so that she committed adultery, divorced her spouse of 15 years, etc. And even though she has been the Premier of Ontario, it has not been enough to satisfy her basic longings. Can you imagine her terror as she is coming to realize that she might not get re-elected and the sudden precipitous loss of status?

    2. Blatchford’s column is reminiscent of the once-famous scene at the end of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” where the heroine meets up with her friend and fellow Resistance member on the street, only to be denounced by him and exposed as the last human.

      I don’t understand the usually sensible Blatchford writing such a column. Wynne’s alleged intelligence has nothing to do with her ability to run the largest Province of Canada, she has proven that, in spades.

      1. Climate Barbie reminds me of some of the girls I knew in high school. The ones I was thinking of were cheerleaders, usually dated the toughest jocks, and some of them were on the student council. That gave them a certain social status and they thought they could dictate to everyone else how to behave and what to think.

        They got away with that because they had immunity due to their lofty standing in the pecking order and woe betide anyone who didn’t bow down to them.
