The new Sask. Liberal leader used to be an NDP candidate. Persistent, you have to give him that. As I recall during the last Sask. prov. election, about 10 percent of the Liberal candidates were Muslim. Maybe, he’s found his political niche. Highly numerate and a tax accountant, we’ll see if he can convince anyone of the benefit to the economy of a federally imposed tax on carbon dioxide. A tough sell, if ever there was one.

“Germany’s decision to close its nuclear power program and make a big foray into wind and solar energy was driven by orthodox environmentalist ideology.”
“Germany’s gargantuan commitment to renewable energy (30,000-plus wind turbines and the world’s third-largest solar capacity) is intended to point the way to a sustainable low-carbon future.
This comprehensive energy policy was consolidated in 2010 and termed the “energiewende,” meaning energy turning. It set a number of ambitious targets, including a reduction of 40 per cent in greenhouse gas emissions from the 1990 level by 2020, and 70 per cent by 2040.
Also, after Japan’s Fukushima disaster, it was decided to shut all nuclear plants by 2022, a task now half completed. Environmentalists were ecstatic.
““The earthquake was what made us start running and start throwing guinea pigs and bunnies in the car.””

“CO2 Just Hit 410ppm – and All is Well”
“The main danger of course is that when CO2 hits 500ppm and nothing bad happens, people will finally stop listening to wild claims of imminent catastrophe.
Of course, we all hoped that the climate movement would collapse when CO2 hit 400ppm – but as the 50th anniversary of futurist Paul Ehrlich’s failure to lose his audience demonstrates, it will likely take a lot more than half a century of being wrong to convince the most committed climate advocates that they might be mistaken.”
…-
“Greenhouse gas reaches alarming new record
By Brandon Miller, CNN”
“The level of the gas in the atmosphere, which is measured by instruments on top of Hawaii’s Mauna Loa Observatory, topped 410 parts per million (ppm) for the month of April.
This is the highest concentration of the heat-trapping gas ever recorded at the Observatory, where direct measurements have been taking place for more than 60 years, giving us the longest detailed record.
Passing 410 ppm “is important because it punctuates another milestone in the upwards march of CO2,” according to Ralph Keeling, head of the Scripps CO2 program at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in California.
“At the recent pace, we’ll hit 450 ppm in a mere 16 years, and 500 ppm 20 years after that. That’s well within dangerous territory for the climate system,” Keeling added.”
A good portion of those greenhouse gases may be emitted by that Hawaiian volcano,(Kileaua?) The government of Hawaii should cap the bloody thing as geo-scientists recommended years ago, at about the same time as they recommended covering the Sahara desert with a white thermal blanket.
That’s what I love about scientists, they always have a solution to every problem.
Actually, it’s usually engineers, rather than scientists, who have the solution to every problem: it generally involves massive amounts of concrete and totally ignoring nature and geological reality.
Sorry Frances, but as an engineer, I have to add a minor correction. Scientists have solutions to every problem. Engineers have workable solutions to most problems. In engineering there are sometimes conflicting constraints that do not allow for an answer.
I have never tried to assume a spherical cow because if it’s spherical, it’s not a cow anymore.
C Miner – just google Vajont Dam.
Going on 200 years of Marxism being catastrophically wrong every single time. Not surprising considering that he never based it on or tested his idea with actual data in the first place. Even mountains of skulls can not convince the true believers.
Ralph Keeling is one of the children of Charles A. Keeling, the scientist who first started making accurate measurements of atmospheric CO2. Charles also worked at Scripps. Following in his father’s footsteps, Ralph Keeling is best known for his invention/innovation in measuring 02 levels.
His prediction: “At the recent pace, we’ll hit 450 ppm in a mere 16 years, and 500 ppm 20 years after that. That’s well within dangerous territory for the climate system,” Keeling added.”
It’s doubtful I’ll be around in 20 years or even 16 years but I hope someone will remember so that future generations can see whether this is accurate or just another of those failed doomsday predictions that are so common.
*footnote: Charles Keeling has a short autobiography somewhere out there on the internet. It’s mildly interesting.
As with any trend, the shorter the interval of observation, the less accurate the extrapolation. The comment “at the recent pace” is a scientific problem because short term and long term trends are always different. The 450 ppm in 16 years and 500 ppm 20 years after that is also a problem. These assume a “pace” of 2.5 ppm per year whereas the longer term trend has been 1.5-2.0 ppm.
There is also hyperbolic, nonscientific terminology in his comments such as “in a mere” and “well within dangerous territory” which on their own represent unjustified speculation. He is mixing valid scientific observation with emotional commentary.
CO2 levels have been increasing for well over 100 years. It seems very likely they will exceed 450 and even 500 ppm. What will happen to us as a result of this increase? Probably not much other than a slight improvement in food production. In fact, you could have said the same thing about CO2 levels back in the 1950s. “When they reach 400 pm (unprecedented) the world will end.” They are currently at 410 and rising.
I just spent a month in Northern Quebec. No evidence of global warming in any of the communities along the Hudson Bay coast. Permafrost still there. Buildings still standing. -33 deg C temperatures in late April.
Statists know dealing with actual pollution doesn’t supply the power they crave, so this hokum.
Two identical periods of warming in the last 100 years, one human-induced, one not; it should wreck their argument. Plus, the radiative factors their models assign CO2 in interaction with water vapour have never been empirically demonstrated and indeed the science doesn’t support these massive CO2 warming feedbacks. GIGO.
Then they move on to well it can’t be anything else, we’ve factored “everything else” in (with adjustments). Well, except for the oceans and climate records (some mysteriously damaged eh?), correlation with the sun; oh and cosmic rays, and btw their influence on cloud formation.
Then the move on to violence, the new stock and trade of the reformed wealthy, but still filthy rich converted to sucking socialism types like Soros, who now profit from that.
Then year after the media laps up their climate claptrap we are continuing to warm.
How would we know when these adjusted reports have certainty under 50%?
We can’t afford not to. Nope, other way around, especially Canada a resource exporting nation. All it does it make government bigger, and worse. All it does is encourage politicians to partition us into controllable identity groups. All it does is make is beholden to foreign bureaucrats in Paris and NY.
Re-focus on actual pollution and what we in Canada can do about it; there are lots of ideas. I know, how does that crush capitalism (more than Hillary anyway) and forward us into the new green partitioned economy? Maybe if power itself wasn’t the end then …. oh never mind.
I’m increasingly putting things in terms of tree line. At 150 ppm of CO2 in the atmosphere tree line is at sea level. That means nothing that uses photosynthesis can survive on land. You have to get up over 200 ppm before treeline starts to raise in elevation and latitude. At the worst part of the last glaciation tree line was around 1000m. That means most of Alberta, and parts of Saskatchewan and BC, were above treeline. It means the deserts were far larger than they are now.
It comes down to a choice between plant life and deserts. And the “ecologically minded” are voting for deserts.
Twenty years ago, Venezuela had the world’s fourth largest tuna fleet. Then, Hugo Chavez nationalized it.
Today, the Government tuna fleet is stuck in port waiting for spare parts that never arrive. The remaining fishermen do smuggling runs from Trinidad to the Venezuelan coast, avoiding when possible heavily armed pirates that include Venezuela’s Coast Guard and National Guard ships.

The present generation can’t wait until I’m gone. I heard that sort of thing ever since I started my teaching job nearly 30 years ago.
How long before this is allowed in Canada thanks to our Supreme Court:
Quite soon if Kathleen Wynne has anything to do with it.
Speculation warning. Soon, the DeMarxists and their dirty tricks team will suffer a terrible, no good, very bad week, as the following happens, not necessarily in chronological order:
1. DOJ IG Report excoriates the FBI and Justice mandarins, particularly Comey but also including Brennan and Clapper, showing the protections of Justice were politically usurped by partisan interests, with polarized investigations, leaking, lying to Congress and the country; now smugly thinking they got away with their sedition. No they didn’t and their bait and switch between classified and unclas documents will come to an end.
2. The Rosenstein stonewalling of documents comes to an end, particularly the ever changing terms of reference, apparently immune to the limitations of time and space. That will include the terms of reference that got Mueller appointed, including the poisonous fruit used a justification (hint: no underlying crime or intelligence), the manipulation of FISA courts using the same poisonous fruit, and the realization the whole seditious bunch was in the tank for Hillary in their nefarious efforts to try to frame Trump.
3. The Trump/Cohen coup de grace when it is revealed presidential and legal privilege was jettisoned, with the excuse of some crime which turns out to be a $35,000 retainer paid to personal lawyer Cohen by Trump. Watching the knobs bleat about “no services provided,” and therefore a willful display of ignorance of what a retainer is (hint: I’m a rental manager, I get paid a retainer based on rents in a month, sometimes I do lots of work, sometimes none, ie not the same as fee for service). When this comes to light, the career of a bunch of lawyers, including the entire Mueller prosecutorial team (the fool just hired another), Rosenstein and likely others in the FBI and NY AG office, end with disbarment.
4. Before that coup de grace, the Mueller team will suffer a fatal setback when a federal judge refuses their bleats they don’t have to reveal their legal authority for going after Manafort:
“Mueller’s team says its authorities are laid out in documents including the August 2017 scope memo – and that some powers are actually secret because they involve ongoing investigations and national security matters that cannot be publicly disclosed.”
Ellis seemed amused and not persuaded.”
He summed up the argument of the Special Counsel’s Office as, “We said this is what the investigation was about. But we’re not going to be bound by it, and we weren’t really telling the truth in that May 17 letter [appointing a special counsel].”
He referenced the common exclamation from NFL announcers, saying: “C’mon man!”
The judge also gave the government two weeks to hand over the unredacted “scope memo” or provide an explanation why not — after prosecutors were reluctant to do so, claiming it has material that doesn’t pertain to Manafort.”
I doubt Mueller will provide the documents or demonstrate satisfactory authority. Since this has arisen out of a motion by Manafort’s team to dismiss, that will be the likely result – dismissal of all charges.
And the seeds of DeMarxism self-destruction will bloom and bear fruit. The GOP establishment, sensing again their political advantage in supporting Trump, will do so again. So expect lots of perp walks, all dutifully suppressed by a 5th column masquerading as the 4th estate. How these twits think they can run the clock out betrays their fatal conceit and arrogance. The boulder is rolling downhill and they can’t stop it.
You forgot that one of the Russian companies that Mueler indicted have plead not guilty and are due to receive the evidence against them on Wednesday! That will be fun to see.
I didn’t forget so much as dealing with a myriad of news showing the illegal investigation by Mueller and his DeMarxist shock troops.
According to a certain former resident of the White House (who won’t go away and doesn’t know when to shut up), anatomy implies electoral obligation:
Apparently Tanya Granic-Allen has been dumped by the Ford PC Committee…due to her non politically correct expressions of her feelings in 2014.
I am upset about that. It is cynical and undemocratic as she had a lot of support in Missisaugua. There shoukd be room in the party for different views. I think Ford will lose support over this. He has lost me.
He caved to the politically correct crowd. He should have let voters decide.
BTW…Brian Lilley is on to something….and having a very interesting Twitter ‘discussion’ with a member of MSM…who happens to have a spouse that works with Wynne.
Who’s running Ford’s electoral team, Wynne’s team? He just PO’ed a bunch of voters on their choice. They can’t afford this PC shyte! The mission is to remove Wynne & the Liberals, then they can fight among themselves. And didn’t she throw her support to Ford? What a slap! Right outta P. Brown’s Playbook. “We’ll pick your candidate, as we don’t think you’re sophisticated enough to do it on your own”. She should run as an independent, might end up a king maker if she wins her riding & it’s a squeaker for Ford or Wynne.
*(*$%@@&*&*!%$@*!(!
again, wtFCUK are the homeowners planning come time to reshingle? rip it all out I guess.
sooooooo the grandiose ‘environMENTAL concern’ shoves ROI off the table . . . .

Feels bad.

sooooooo the grandiose ‘environMENTAL concern’ shoves ROI off the table . . . .
but that measure is familiar and 2nd nature only on the independent self-sufficient portion of the spectrum.
Interesting comment on Shiny Pony vs. Harper.
