  1. Big words from someone who presided over the political annihilation of the federal Progressive Conservative party. (Yeah, I know: Lyin’ Bryan bailed out as PM to save his miserable hide, she got the job, and was left holding the bag when it all went kablooie in 1993.)
What was that old saying again? Oh, yes–people who live in glass houses…..

  2. Wow, so much dumping on Trey in there! Imho, totally wrong too – he’s said why and it’s for a totally valid and moral reason. Crap on him for not wanting to be another McCain or Polosi? Sheesh. His reasons speak more for integrity than those others could ever even dream of.
Was there not an old adage about the best people for the president job being smart enough to not want it? That may be Trey, and kudos to him for walking away from the swamp to follow his own path..

  3. And here I thought I couldn’t hold that rancid c-word in more contempt, and then she goes and proves me wrong.
    (Apologies to our lady host)

  4. Canadians were more than ready to give the federal PCs the boot in 1993, thanks to Karlheinz Schreiber’s buddy. But Kim! didn’t do herself any favours, either, particularly during the political debates during the federal election that year. Remember her “Maybe you need a hearing aid!” comment?
She’s tied with a certain present-day politician for being the most unqualified person to be prime minister.

  5. Yea our 19th prime minister. I always bookend that statement with “it was handed to her and only lasted half a year until the next prime minister was actually elected” whenever I get the chance.

  6. I’m not surprised that Kim Campbell doesn’t know what it’s like to leave on your own terms.
I respect Trey Gowdy enormously, and have none for Kim Campbell.

  7. Being the first female Canadian PM, despite being appointed by the political equivalent of a rat abandoning a sinking ship and going on to a very short career leading a corpse of a Party into electoral oblivion was likely the catalyst for her post political career in academia. Based on the Twitter comments received, she likely needed reminding that the reality of her fame has not been forgotten and any thoughts of returning to politics might be ill-advised.

  8. Excuse the foreigner ignorance, but . . . .
What the hell is a “progressive conservative”?
    That’s like a “jumbo shrimp.”

  9. Wasn’t she the candidate who said an election campaign was not the time to debate ideas?
Anyway another CINO trying to get invited to the right parties. She did get along great with the Russians though. LOL

  10. Who was it that said that the “civically competent” Canadians all voted in favour of the Charlottetown Accord?
    Refresh my memory…Scotch name…Cameron…Camsell…wait…Campbell?

  11. Just remember that Kim Campbell gave us the Youth Justice Act which includes ,as part of the prize that it is, a minimum of 7, yes, count them, seven court appearances for a young offender before they are sentenced or released. Justice delayed, Kimmy, is justice denied to the rest of us. That alone says it all.

  12. Bobby a PC is just a liberal. And a liberal is someone who thinks history starts every morning.
They like to think of themselves as “conservative” but have no clue how to explaine or defend a conservative position so they just capitulate when opposed hoping that they will be liked.
Also the definition of a liberal is someone who’s own interests are not at stake at the moment.

  13. That is why people LIKE Gowdy. He is a lousy politician, AND HE DOES NOT WANT TO BE A GOOD ONE. Kim Campbell was also a lousy politician, but she aspired to be a lifetime one. That is the difference.
People, a growing number of them, the world over, now hold politicians and career bureaucrats in contempt. They recognize the need for some level of central authority; we all disagree on the exact level, but agree that there has to be one. Trump basically saw this first. No back room boys. No connections. No experience; the gatekeepers still think these matter. In fact, they are now a detriment. A growing number are now actively opposed to dynasties; there will never be another Bush elected for example, or a Clinton. The Dems I think will try one more Kennedy, and that will fail. I think they are gong to go full retard on the dynasty thing tho. They will go so far as to find a someone named Lincoln I think. They will even try to get him to grow a beard. A growing number see the contemptible feedback loop between politicians, unions who elect them, then get raises from their pets, and the sweet pensions that those voters have not seen in generations, and California going bankrupt because of them.
They see people like Lois Lerner, and they want the swamp drained. NYT, CNN, they are swamp dwellers, and they will never see.

  14. First of all, blaming Campbell for the resulting two seat party is ignoring history. Sure, she did nothing to help, but Mulroney handed her a massive shit sandwich along with the cute Prime Minister title. Her quote, “The election is not a time to discuss serious issues”, although ill-advised and probably unintended, is still one of the most brutally honest comments that I have ever heard a politician utter. As someone who once did competitive debating, I am disgusted with the farcical quality of today’s political debates.
Anyways, my basic definition of a CINO is ‘someone with conservative leanings who has bought into the corrupt ideology of political correctness’.
Maybe a more accurate tag than PC would be PCC, Politically Correct Conservative.
or… maybe an SJC. Social Justice Conservative.
I mean, we should all agree on a name for them, since the Conservative Party of Canada currently seems jam-packed with these leftist enablers. They are quite easy to pick out on Question Period, BTW, they are the ones with no functioning backbones who are unable to stand up for our values.

  15. Hey ! Kim Campbell … whoever you are … two words: Self Awareness. Focus on yourself … although it appears as though that wouldn’t be a very pleasing enterprise.

  16. I remember that 1993 election very well. The PC party didn’t even make sure she had proper security at the events she attended. When her bus arrived at an event there was always some activist clown shouting right in her face all nicely captured on film for the nightly news.
I couldn’t stand her but I always thought that was unfair to her and poor planning to leave her exposed to the thugocracy like that.

  17. Being a lousy politician is not necessarily a bad thing. Being a good politician is also not necessarily a good thing, case in point Ralph Goodale.
I thought Goudy was great and loved watching him ask the tough questions.

  18. Yeah, this character, during an election campaign said something to the effect that it would not be a good idea to discuss with lesser intellect what their ideas on running their country are.
The sanitized version of it is “During her one and only election as Tory leader, former Prime Minister Kim Campbell said that an election campaign was a bad time to discuss policy”, apparently the current airhead took that to be his way to run the campaign and concentrate on his hairstyle instead.
No, she said that the people just could not possibly understand the nuanced and sophisticated ideas of her superior intellect.
Them people, them plebeians that get up every morning and go to work to make a living for their families are just not up to her grander head power.
Fallaciously she holds this attitude until this day.
It is curious how she managed to worm her way into those well-paying jobs.
She was prime minister for approximately like 6 months, seems more an aberration than something to gloat about.
Sheesh, some people are so full of themselves, legends in their own mind, it’s stunning.

  19. Yup, Trump is a lousy politician, and that is his strength:-)))
Oh, but Trump is an excellent strategist!!!!

  20. I guess that Gowdy has non of the pretence, cowardice, and dishonesty that true politicians like Campbell find so admirable.

  21. When Kim Campbell passed increased gun control legislation as Justice minister she was dead to me.

  22. Kim Campbell could not even balance her own cheque book. (Not making that up) A supposed conservative no less.
Trey Gowdy: If he was coming after me as a prosecutor I would be shaking! This guy is a bulldog. They should have let him loss on HRC.

  23. there was an editorial cartoon depicting kimmie kim as the ‘alice in wonderland’ rabbit, caption ‘no time to discuss key issues, no time to discuss key issues’.
I printed umpteen copies of it and taped it onto every conservative election poster I could find.
kimmie kim was set up by the conservative elites. they *knew* the jig was up, thanks to mulruin’s record and unpopularity. she was bedazzled by the prospect of being first female PM, albeit by a leadershit contest and not by the ballot.
and, she was conservative in name only. it was good for Canuckistan she got hammered in a way that we will never see again.

  24. Following her 1993 defeat it was widely speculated in the conservative party that Dim had been reduced to penury. She had no assets or prospects. The rumour circulated that party insiders prevailed on chretien to appoint her to some post. He obliged by giving her the job of council general of Los Angeles. A 5 year do nothing sinecure.

  25. *
“a very short career leading a corpse of a Party
    into electoral oblivion”

    canada’s least well-known and least self-aware
prime minister ever… the jokes write themselves.
her majorly quirky russian boyfriend would have
been a better choice to lead the party.

  26. It results from the merger of the Progressive party and the Conservative party in the early 1940s.

  27. Me too! I wrote Kimmy objecting to her stand on firearms and got the typical response back, “thank you …and then reiterating her stand”. I wrote again explaining I knew what she stood for and she did not have to waste her time to explain or justify anything to me.
In addition I told her I did not want her as leader and would be working for opponent.
She was and still is a useless t*t.

  28. “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.” Henry VI Part 2, Act IV. And many (most?) politicians are – or were – lawyers. I wonder if there is any subconscious (demonstrated) link between the two, in our dislike for both? I think Shakespeare was on to something. As soon as I learn a candidate is a lawyer, I lose interest.

  29. I’ve had my share of dealing with lawyers this past year as part of settling my father’s estate.
The financial penalties for my reactions and opinions could have filled several cuss boxes.

  30. Gowdy is one of the good ones. Kim Campbell misses his point, he’s not a good politician, he doesn’t play the political game very well. He’s best suited to the courtroom. Respectful, thoughtful, I would have loved to see him debate Trudeau.
    Cheers.

  31. “As soon as I learn a candidate is a lawyer, I lose interest.”
If one had to be a lawyer before one was permitted to “legislate laws” then we wouldn’t have Derek Zoolander as our Prime Minister today.
There are good and bad people everywhere. I have met some good lawyers.

  32. Sorry Kim …you couldn’t shine Trey’s shoes or as they say up here tie his skate laces….

  33. “Kim Campbell misses his point,…”. Exactly. She is not that bright.
    Bill Tyreman nails it.
Our house did not vote for that useless twit and moved our vote to Reform even though a friend was running locally for the PC Party.

  34. Yes,and always will I remember Justice Minister Kim Campbell refusing to extradite serial killer Charles Ng to California because they had the death penalty.
Campbell was also the first politician to exploit the Montreal massacre to bring in gun control, and she said that anyone who disagreed with the Charlottetown accord was “an enemy of Canada”, which included many Veterans organizations.
Avril Phaedra Campbell was a phony opportunist who fooled even Mulroney, who was shocked to find she couldn’t speak Russian and wasn’t an Oxford graduate, just a woman willing to do or say anything to get to the top.

  35. “I remember Justice Minister Kim Campbell refusing to extradite serial killer Charles Ng to California because they had the death penalty.”
I remember Justice Minister Kim Campbell refusing to hear David Milgaard’s appeal when they had proof of Milgaard’s innocence.

  36. I thought Campbell was a pretty good Prime Minister for the five months she held the post. The annihilation of the Conservatives in the election had far more to do with Mulroney than Campbell. She herself was very popular with the public.

  37. Gowdy was all big talk, no action. So, I agree with him, he was a lousy politician… a typical, lousy politician.
He admitted yesterday that in over a year into this administration, he’s never met President Trump. That tells me a lot right there.
