Remember the professors who were recently interviewed by Jordan Peterson? One of them, David Millard Haskell, has just written a stinging article about The Shiny Pony:

Under the new rules, applicants must agree — by marking a box on an electronic form — that they respect charter rights, including “women’s rights and women’s reproductive rights.” The office of the employment minister has said without the confirmation, an organization will not receive funding.
Religious organizations — churches, youth camps, aid groups and so forth — that hire students to assist them over the summer are frustrated. That’s because many, especially conservative Protestant and Catholic organizations, believe a child in the womb is as valuable as a child born, and they see abortion as immoral. To give assent to abortion, even via a check mark on a government form, betrays their values and conscience.

  1. Diversity is our strength. Except in the Trudeau’s Canada where diversity of opinion will not be tolerated. I always wonder why there aren’t any good Catholics left that will recommend that Trudeau be excommunicated.
    Automatic excommunication for abortion (CIC 1398) applies not only to the woman who has the abortion, but to “all those who commit this crime with knowledge of the penalty attached, and [this] includes those accomplices without whose help the crime would not have been committed” (Evangelium Vitae 62).

  6. There is no difference between the authoritarian left and the authoritarian right. Authoritarians are bullies and tyrants who are viciously intolerant of anyone who refuses conformity or resists being meekly compliant. The mantra of authoritarians is always “shut up, do as you’re told…or else” and the “or else” gets more and more oppressive.

I suppose that Muslim organizations can get around this by invoking taqqiya but the reality is that this is just one of many reasons why government, and particularly the federal government shouldn’t be in this kind of business. The majority of federal ministries shouldn’t exist. Robbing Peter to pay Paul is always wrong. However, if Muslims make a fuss, I’m sure the Spawn will change it.

  9. I have news for the Pony, his much mouthed “diversity is our strength ” is an oxymoron. Diversity in a country is a dividing force, we stand for nothing. Trudeau has no clue of what he speaks any time he opens his gob. We will soon be a nation of communities if we are going to keep electing leaders not qualified for the job. Trudeau is probably the least qualified leader in the history of this country.

    Well, now they all know that supporting the Liberals socialist program is a bad idea, because that little checkbox has been implied since the 1960s at least. It has always been waiting in the wings to be deployed until the right moment. Prime Minister Hairdoo decided this is the moment, and the churches better damn well check that box.
    Socialists don’t like religion. They view it as competition.

  13. I don’t think that Islam is in conflict with the Liberals on this. IIRC, infanticide is acceptable to the age of 16 for males and never expires for females (though the terminology changes to uxoricide upon marriage).

  14. Just for the record, this is affecting Islamic organizations too; Islam is just as firmly against abortion as Christianity. Only the other day, I saw an image in a newspaper of a meeting of religious leaders discussing how to confront the government over this. Prominent among the attendees was an imam.
    So now our Dear Leader and his oh-so-clever policy wonks end up alienating Muslim groups as well. This is all too redolent of their last genius master stroke: trying to inject “progressive” issues into international trade talks.
    It would be all too funny if it were not so unbearably pathetic.

  15. As I keep saying, abortion is here is incidental (an issue Canadians do not understand as they don’t understand that budgets don’t balance themselves).
    If Trudeau can make ANYONE sign away what they regard as right or wrong for ANY reason, he can and will do it EVERY time.
    Liberals enjoy making people beg for their money (RE: parents, autism, Ontario, Wynne is a b!#ch). It’s time that not only is Trudeau made to eat this paper but that the private sector step into cases like this and pick up some of the slack.

  17. It is the fatal flaw of the Canadian Constitution that renders it as worthless as any other law “giving you a right”.
    Rights don’t come from government. They are consistently trampled on by governments and inter government agencies everywhere.
    The limits put on your rights, all come from governments encroaching upon you.
    If you want your rights for you and your future children, the only way is to limit government involvement in what is yours.
    Starve the beast.
    The American Constitution, is an example of freedoms gained, even while those rights have been eroded by their governments for +200 years.
    The fact remains, don’t allow the government to set your rights as they’ll always take them from you when they see fit.

    Probably? How about definitely? And he will continue to wear this title forever since it is inconceivable that a worse leader could ever be elected in the future.
    If the situation wasn’t so pathetic, it might even be somewhat humorous. It’s too bad because Canada could be a great country and contribute much to humanity as a whole but with this tool at the helm … not a chance.

  19. “Diversity is out strength” How? I’ve seen the catchy message on t-shirts worn by young 20 somethings but do you have any idea how strength is obtained? To me it’s a bunch of horsehockey fantasy pablum that feeds progressive numbskulls.
    Strength comes from UNITY. Tucker Carlson said last night, it’s Unity from common beliefs that brings people together even if those people come from diverse backgrounds, education and ethnic origins. Where in nature does diversity make anything stronger without some general unifying influence? Diversity on its own causes chaos and conflict. Even the progressives who preach “Diversity is strength” don’t believe it otherwise conservatives and liberals would be one big happy family without having to first find common ground. The strongest organizations will always be ones where everyone pulls hard in the same direction.

  21. And yet, attendees at the various town halls let him get away with obsfucation on this. His claim was that the legislation is simply aimed at abortion activist groups. If that is the case, they need to revise the application process which casts a wide net.

  22. Erin O’Toole sent out a good letter on this. The letter makes it clear that Trudeau is disengaged and that the country is being run by the back-room boys. We knew this, but many Canadians do not. Canadians need to wake up.

  23. There’s a serious tactical aspect that most of you are missing. All of you noting the constitutional aspects of this abomination are correct.
    However, what this is about is the next election. This is Socks effort to drive a wedge issue among conservatives. There are two likely outcomes:
    1. there’s a split among conservatives over those opposed to abortion as against those who believe in a woman’s right to choose. Doesn’t matter to Socks how it turns out; the conservatives will have been divided against themselves for the next election; or
    2. conservatives unite against this, and he’s able to portray all conservatives as being against women’s rights and he as the great defender of such. This shores up the leftwing new Liberal voters which he has to have to win the next election.
    Either way, it’s a heads-I-win-tails-you-lose proposition for him. The only downside for him is any division created within his own party, and he can always hit back with party discipline “Do you want to remain the governing party, or not?”
    For my own part, I’m pro-choice, but this is so cynical in essentially invoking a law which does not exist, that we have to stand united on this matter.

  29. It is not a good wedge issue. It is not just Conservatives he is dividing– it is the country. Moreover, when asked, most Canadians think there should be some kind of abortion law in place. I think it would be very dangerous for him to try to make this an election issue.

    In case you were wondering that’s 8 times the number of gun murders in the states each year.

  33. Harper had an answer to the abortion question that diffuses it as a wedge issue. He said something like, 1) my position on abortion is complicated and will anger both pro-choice and pro-life advocates 2) regardless of my beliefs, a Conservative government will not revisit this issue. The Conservatives should also add in your view, correct imo, that bringing up the abortion issue again is a cynical political ploy (the stale hidden agenda card).

  36. This whole issue should have been avoided when Sock Boy first declared that he wouldn’t sign nomination papers for Liberal candidates who opposed abortion. This despite him declaring that it was an “open” nomination process. He received very little pushback from his party which proves again why we always say to never trust a Liberal as they will say and do anything to get elected. Liberal candidates knew that the new golden boy was their meal ticket back to the trough and went along proving again that Liberals have no principles. The Liberal party no longer exists, it has become a personality cult.
    If the Trudeau tries to make abortion an election issue, the Conservatives should hit back with ads showing that Pierre Trudeau would not be allowed into today’s Liberal party run by his son.

    imagine fighting a pitched battle with your footsoldiers engaging in lots of diversity. wandering all over the place with no cohesive coordinated plan. everybody following agenda, whim and adventure.

    my entire take on abortion changed in a matter of seconds way back late friggin 60s, chemistry class. saw an image of a 7-8 whatever weeks old fetus, repleat with little hands, fingers, toes, mouth, eyes, ie completely recognizable as a HUMAN.
    it took a matter of SECONDS dear sda and my attitude has NOT wavered. Im talking half a century later.

  43. Eff-off and grow up Loner. cgh is allowed an opinion here and I don’t totally disagree. Why would we welcome thousands of babies that can not be looked after by the parent(s) – most likely parent (singular and already on welfare)?
    I do not support abortion as a means of birth control at all. That’s disgusting and brought forth by people (not just women) too lazy to use REAL birth control.
    Also, if life is so important, why do ‘we’ on the right hate abortion but support capital punishment? And the left supports abortion but wants to rehab evil doers? Is not ALL life sacred to our religious friend here? I do approve of capital punishment in this day of DNA and other ways and means just so you know I am transparent.
    I know I will get flamed here for this comment but I can’t be like a lefty and defend one option while condemning another.
