A highly infectious dog flu that has spread rapidly across Asia and parts of the U.S. has made its way into Canada.
Two dogs in Essex County, Ontario, have H3N2 canine influenza, according to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, and two others are showing symptoms though the infection has not been confirmed in those canines.
Officials said the dogs were imported from South Korea, through the U.S. and were showing signs of respiratory disease the day after they arrived when they were examined by a veterinarian.
That’s right. South Korea — because America doesn’t have enough unwanted pets.

The adoption fee for dogs received from China is $625.00 and for the Spanish galgos, the fee is $700.00.

What was it P.T. Barnum said, about… “one born every minute”… ?
A month ago I was walking in the dog park talking to a lady as our dogs walked together. Her medium-sized dog with a wrinkly face I learned was from South Korea. She works with a group that brings them over and she fosters them until they’re okay for adoption. The reason the dog was given up? Because it had grown to medium size and S. Koreans don’t like medium sized dogs. Freakin’ incredible.

i guess it’s less trouble than purchasing a discarded female child
from china. plus you still get all those “virtue signalling” points.

No shortage of stupid out there, is there?
Don’t they have to wait for a quarantine or are rescue dogs exempt?
No quarantine, and no inspection. They drive them in truckloads over our border into Canada, fly them in from Asia by the thousands. THOUSANDS.
And South Korea expects the USA to defend them and buy their stuff. Not one more young American should die for Korea.
$700 for a rescue dog? They should be paying you.
I can get you a free puppy almost any day of the week and I get you a toe by 3: pm this afternoon, Dude.
My apologies for forgetting my hosts. Over 500 Canadians died for the freedom of South Korea. As a Yank this is not my call, but I don’t think another fine young Canadian should die there.
.
Many of us would like to see the fine young Canadian Justin Trudeau die over there, like today.
So, just one more … please?
.
Dog rescue – the new puppy mills.
Mack, how can you blame the South Koreans for this? Isn’t it Americans and Canadians who are to blame for importing unwanted dogs from all over the world? I don’t think the Koreans have the ability to export dogs here without there being a large demand for them. What could be more trendy than “rescuing” a dog from a faraway land?
.
Do rescue dogs from Korea, coming over here by the carload, qualify as Korean food exports?
.
Isn’t THAT the simple TRUTH?!
When I was in South Korea, I saw dogs in cages on sale for anyone who would buy them.
This includes even Westerners.
Greed and status symbols are not exclusive to one group or country.
Q: What do you call an Asian with one dog?
A: A vegetarian.
Q: What do you call an Asian with two dogs?
A: A rancher.
OK, that is not a nice joke, but timely. You have to think a lot of rescue dogs in North America and Asia come from puppy mills set up to breed mongrel or pure-breds that are then claimed to be “rescues.”
And to get all green about this,☺ just WTF is the carbon footprint of an imported dog?
This rescue business seems to be out of hand when we bring dogs from other countries … or breed mutts here.
We love dogs (don’t have one anymore) and our DIL is a breeder. Dogs are great!
C’mon rescue dog lovers let’s hear from you…..
Regina just euthanized 11 dogs. They arrived
from an un-named rescue facility.
Sometimes I suggest to my (bleeding heart) dog friends that instead of paying ($600 to $1500 per dog) to “rescue” these dogs (by flying them to Canada) they could pay this same money to someone in Mexico/Thailand/Somalia/Korea/Greece/?? and have them look after more dogs there. Usually I get a blank look, followed by a big sigh about my lack of empathy for these poor precious creatures. “If we can save just one…” you know the rest.
I have a friend in Calgary who rescued a dog from Mexico City. Go figure??
He never did tell me the exact figure he paid for what appears to be a cross between a golden lab ad a collie.
The dog turned out OK. But get a load of this. He flew the mutt all the way from Mexico City to Calgary, then he gets upset when I idle my car to warm it up on cold winter nights. He says it creates emissions!! So I ask him, ”What about the methane that comes out of Taco’s anus??”
He changes topic in a hurry.
Hm. So the group is claiming these dogs were destined for the meat market … anybody want to guess how much meat there is on an adult greyhound? I thought South Koreans were a lot smarter than that.
Actually, my sister lived in Seoul in the 70s, said when she went to the market there were lots of dogs in cages for the dinner trade, but they were all puppies — NO ONE was dim enough to waste all the protein necessary to rear one or two meals to adulthood. I don’t know if these rescue people are just naturally stupid, or they just believe everyone else is.
so we are importing disease not only with people but with dogs, we have arrived at nirvana.
“I don’t know if these rescue people are just naturally stupid; or they just believe everyone else is.”
Probably neither of these ideas have occurred to them.
