A Preview of the Upcoming Battle of 2018

As Rex Murphy has eloquently alluded to, if you think that Lindsay Shepherd’s “win” is the end of the Free Speech battle in Canadian schools, you are sadly mistaken.
Benjamin Boyce carefully analyzes what’s going on:

An important factoid: Dr. Laura Mae Lindo is the director of Wilfrid Laurier’s Diversity and Equity Office. She is also an NDP candidate. Even though Ms. Lindo is the boss of Adria Joel, one third of the tribunal that unfairly persecuted Lindsay Shepherd, to date she has offered absolutely no public apology. One can only speculate why.

  1. These guys were caught. THAT is the reason why this is on the front burner.
As money is the only thing these jack-offs understand, take their money away. Even foreign students will decide that the tuition isn’t worth it and move on.

  2. Jordan Peterson’s comment about demanding evidence is spot on: if the only evidence they can bring forward is their say so, then either the problem doesn’t actually exist, or THEY are the ones creating the problem. THEY are the racists they’re hunting for.

  3. “Dr. Laura Mae Lindo is the director of Wilfrid Laurier’s Diversity and Equity Office.” It would appear that Kommissar would be a more appropriate term rather than “director” as the tribunals or have all the appearances and trappings of a GPU troika.

  4. It infects the High Schools as well. My sons HS has a Social Justice class.
Anyway, a friend of his is in this class and stated a contrary opinion to what was being taught (not a racist of sxist opinion…remember these are Grade 11 students just discovering opinions and debate) and they had been asked for their opinions as it was a debate. He was kicked out of the class for having an opinion counter to the curriculum and the teachers, likely said in an artless way. Remember this isn’t a science class where disagreement might be disputing a fact. This is a Social Justice class, the epitome of a fact free environment.

  5. Whether it happened or not, it sure turned out to be true. Her goal was to be a tenured philosophy professor. She never made it there. She works in administration in a job that has been government mandated. So she’s certainly not University Faculty material and clearly lives in an irony free zone.

  6. Running a search on DR. Laura Mae Lindo only has Canadian data from ~2003 and Her Birthday & birth place in Canada are missing… I suspect she, like the BLM Poet, immigrated from the Caribbean Islands…. Canada seems to be a lucrative RIPE grievance center…

  7. The Prof said “you aren’t university material”, I guess she is now according to the new world order. I useless title, a useless job, at a useless school.

  8. Saying Rex Murphy is eloquent is like saying the Titanic took on some water. On Goodreads, I try to comment on CanLit, and my comments on the sad state of the Canadian literary biz, both from a writer’s and a reader’s perspective, always get deleted. Discussions that run counter to the established narrative are not allowed. My assertion that the growing reliance of CanLit publishers on writers who come with a grant attached, and placing literature above commercial fiction because Canadian readers are so much more high-brow than American ones, is a sign of the death knell of Canadian publishing, doesn’t sit too well among the Atwood fan base.

  9. If you can’t even debate in a class where this was acceptable at one time…why are we paying these teachers as teachers. They are just plain GLORIFIED BABYSITTERS…as there are NO thoughts allowed…come to think of it…why do we have UNIVERSITIES AND SCHOOLS. The SJW and SNOWFLAKES are winning and will die not knowing anything or having a thought…too bad!! They are the losers!!

  10. Benjamin Boyce hit the nail on the head.
It’s money, position, power, and influence that Dr. Laura Mae Lindo wants to gain, keep, and obtain more of and she is milking her world-view for all it’s worth.
Notice that Ms. Lindo is seeking a political position. Elected positions in government are extremely lucrative in money, position, reputation, power and influence.
People of her world-view are laughing all the way to the bank.
She describes her specialties as “Cancer, Change Management, Communication Problems, Conflict Management, Empowering Women, Family Support, Financial Well Being, Forgiveness, Grief, Loss, & Bereavement, Happiness, Holistic Coach, Life Management, Multicultural Concerns, Parenting, Spiritual, Wellness”.
She takes Paypal, by the way, for her services.

  11. California profs say farmers’ markets are racist ‘white spaces’
Two California professors are criticizing farmers’ markets for causing “environmental gentrification” in which “habits of white people are normalized.”
San Diego State University geography professors Pascale Joassart-Marcelli and Fernando J. Bosco contend that farmers’ markets are “white spaces” oppressing minorities in a chapter for “Just Green Enough,” an environmental anthology focused on urban development.

  12. Another obnoxious black woman. Big surprise. They gravitate to anything that lets them exploit the color of their skin, since their characters have no content.

  13. One big thing to keep in mind with these people: don’t ever allow them to get you using their language to frame the debate.
Much can be achieved by simply not using terms like “racialize” or “cisgender” and deflecting their attempts to deploy “-phobia” nonsense words. And ignore all silly personal pronouns.
If we all do this, they will tend to self-marginalize themselves further, burying themselves even deeper in the tiny little academic world of their own making.

  14. This isn’t anything new. Around 25 years ago, while I was teaching at a certain post-secondary institution, all the male employees were required to attend a sexual harassment seminar.
It was run by someone who was seeking to advance herself in the institution’s pecking order and what better way for her to do that than to establish a new institution-wide policy. According to her, sexual harassment was rampant across the entire campus and if anyone wasn’t aware of it, they were part of the problem.
Oh, and only men were doing it.
We were supposed to leave the seminar chastened and apologetic, lowering our heads in shame. Instead, most of us voiced our objections to the communistic nature of the seminar as well as its blatant discrimination.
As far as I know, that was the one and only time such a seminar was held while I was there. There might have been something like that run for new male staff, but I never heard anything about that.
Despite all the fuss, it didn’t do much to change things. The seminar leader stayed in her position. As well, rumours about certain male staff members persisted for several years after that.
So when I see stuff like what was discussed in the video, I have to wonder just what’s going on behind the scenes and who is trying to benefit from it.

  15. What is going on at WLU could result, if the likes of the Troika and thought and speech agitprop control Kommissar had their way, in charges of: A – Being part of a counter-revolutionary organization. B – Anti-Marxist agitation. C – Providing moral aid to counter-revolutionary agitators. D – Being part of and disseminating the reactionary movement (supporting Jordan Peterson).

  16. At least 6 good salaries in the DOE at WLU. What a waste of taxpayer’s money. How many people are required to be productive, in a full time occupation to raise sufficient taxes in order to support these clowns?
Universities are another swamp requiring draining.

  17. Believe me, there are lots of people in the post-secondary academic system who simply fill space in offices and don’t do anything important or useful, generally spending their time on make-work projects.
At the institution where I used to teach, I’m sure that up to a third of the positions could have easily been eliminated without affecting operations or increasing anyone’s workload. I doubt that anyone would have noticed anything different if those people had been made redundant.
In my own department alone, 25% of the teaching staff could have been canned. Mind you, at least one of the administrators would have kicked up a fuss as it would have meant that he would have been required to actually do something for a change beside sitting on his butt all day surfing the Internet or playing solitaire on his computer.
In another department, one instructor was completely useless at his job but nobody wanted to fire him. Instead, he was kept on for “course development”.
And that’s just the teaching side. I’m sure that many of the staff in the HR and senior administration offices could have been sacked without adversely affecting the institution.

  18. If anyone thinks the university administration or some other entity will fix this problem they are wrong. Their vested interest is in not fixing the problem.
Three things will fix the problem at Wilfrid Laurier.
    (1) Parents refuse to send their children to Wilfrid Laurier
    (2) Alumni stop donations to Wilfrid Laurier
    (3) Students stop enrolling at WLU in “Women’s’ Studies” type courses and “Social Justice” type courses causing them to cease.
This will fix the problem quicker than you say LGBTQQIP2SAA.
