Glavin says it better than I can, but why is this so hard for the PMO and Liberal party to understand? Trade deals work best with countries with some common values, like democracy, industrial development and some basic understanding of human rights, labour and environmental standards. The TPP nations mostly have these plus shared heritage N Zealand, Australia; sure Vietnam is included but would be a minor player. And NAFTA obviously includes our ally and by far our largest market.
But Jr would much prefer some kind of deal with a brutal centrally planned country that shares none of these values. China as currently administrated resembles a crime family more that a modern industrial economy.. Candada already does business with China, look at the piles of cheap manufactured goods clogging stores. Why would it benefit us to make these imports easier? Simply put Canadian businessmen should deal with China as best they can, there is no need for a negotiated free trade deal to make that happen. The government should concentrate on negotiating NAFTA and TPP.

2. He botched TPP by playing hooky.
3. Since TPP is an ‘everyone except China’ deal, he’s pissed all of them off by skipping off to Beijing to try to cut a bilateral.
4. China has made it abundantly clear for decades that the only thing that goes in trade deals with them is trade, not any ‘progressive’ agenda items ever. Going over for that guaranteed he’d be tossed out of the room.
So the only thing that steps 2-4 have done is weakened Canada’s bargaining position with the US re. NAFTA.
It’s not just that Spawn is an idiot; everyone in his cabinet on anything connected with trade and foreign affairs are idiots as well. They have a handful of fairly bright people at Secretary of State level positions, but they’re far too junior to have any influence.
Forget for the moment that the government policy direction is wrong. These people are too stupid to even tie their own shoes.

But I agree with your general thrust. Governments destroy themselves out of office just about every time. The cumulative impact of ALL the Liberals’ stupid policies they’ve inflicted will sooner or later downturn our economy or Adscam themselves again and then out they will go. And you’re dead right about Ontario and Alberta. The Ontario government in particular resembles a decaying corpse right now. If that government doesn’t go out of office in 2018, this country is in real trouble.
