Wynning!

Give them a break, those wind turbines are expensive to maintain.

Speaking after delivering remarks to the Empire Club, Mayo Schmidt spoke about the application that’s currently before the Ontario Energy Board, which seeks to increase rates by 0.5 per cent this year and 4.8 per cent next year.

  1. “Ontario’s Liberal government cut hydro bills by an average of 25 per cent this year, after soaring costs for ratepayers helped send Premier Kathleen Wynne’s approval ratings to record lows.”
What the F%%k is going on.. A business plan is not VALID if price is determined by Government influence & policy.. What is to say they are not Charging >200% more than actual cost…They are normally engaged in consumer fraud

  2. “What the F%%k is going on”
An election is looming, after which the rates go right back up. Will Ontario be stupid enough to fall for it?

  3. Is this Mayo Schmidt the same Mayo Schmidt who was brought in to be CEO of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool so many years ago? And changed the name to Vitera (which sounds like some kind of hair cream), before selling it to Glencor? How many Mayo Schmidt’s are there?
If it is, he is a prime example of a Chicago slickster working the system to his own gain. Is this guy really worth $ 4.5 million a year? Surely Hydro One should be able to find a Canadian who is capable of pretending to make a company profitable when it is sucking money from the taxpayer for much less. Why do we need imports?

  4. You’ve gotta be kidding us, “Will Ontario be stupid enough to fall for it?” How about does a bear sh*t in the woods?
Ontarians are no smarter than the rest of Canadians and you can just about guarantee that Wynne backed by her Teachers Unions, Police Unions, Health Care Unions and Public Sector Unions will be returned to power after the next election. Similarly in 2019 the Boy Blunder and the New Libranos, led by the likes of Morneau will be returned to power nationally. The NDP are no longer the party of the blue collar stiff and the CPC doesn’t have any leadership with the backbone to take a stand on any of the many fundamental issues that are wracking the country at the present time. This country is doomed because we refuse to call our elected officials to account, and when we do the moral and legal authorities of the country bail every time.

    Here’s why it’ll happen:

  6. Pssssst, only have to get Toronto and GTA to vote for you. They have lower KW rate, and very low distribution fee. They, the urban elite, don’t get hurt. Ergo, the rural small pop centres, pay for others, and Wynne Gov feel good and social/urban friendly philosophy/policies. Fact, sad, but a fact. Ontario is seriously underwater re debt, but, entitled class believes a pot of gold exists.
I have good friends there, good people, but, admit: “they are screwed”, too bad really.
Golden horseshoe is turd alley now, Wynne etal, have assured that. Takers totally, and with West in toilet, who pays the bills?? Toast folks, Canada economics are sunk. Where to folks, suggestions???

  7. Of course its the same Mayo who ruined SWP. You think there’s more than one Mr & Mrs Schmidt named their kid after the salad dressing? It certainly helps understand Hydro’s troubles knowing who is running it. And how well he’s getting paid for his efforts.

  8. Where to?
The 51st State linking Montana to Alaska.
The East has made it plain,we exist to be enslaved.
Our purpose is to work for their benefit, not our own.
Sure makes the USA constitution a mighty attractive document, when we, Canadians, have been deprived of our legal rights in the name of our “Human Rights”.
And have no property rights nor claim to the rewards of our own effort, because ,,Fairness.
Pretty sure most of our current “indigenous persons” would sooner have US citizenship than spend another century in the Canadian Apartheid System.
Time to turn Old Preston’s motto back at him, The West Wants IN…Into the USA.

  9. ” Will Ontario be stupid enough to fall for it?”
    Yes we’re never coming back.
The Libs will win on “legal weed” this time and then “free weed” after that and then it’s over. USSR like STATE until Venezuela like collapse.
It’s the model for Canada too.

  10. As I recall the previous president Leroy Larsen was the one who fatally wounded Sask Pool. Mayo was brought in to resuscitate the Pool but all he could do was hold a requiem mass. Some of the guys on a farm forum were wonder what would happen to Mayo. I suggested that he’d land on his feet and it looks like he did.

  11. Ontario is looking more and more like Venezuela every day. At least Venezuela had the resources to keep the scam going for about 15 years. The only way Ontario will keep going is by stealing the wealth of other provinces with the help of the Trudeau regime. Ontario is going down and will take Canada with it. It’s time for Alberta to get out before we go down with the ship.

  12. I’m growing very weary of the ol’ “aging infrastructure” argument for increasing taxes and rates. I served on the Board of Directors for a small, privately-owned, neighborhood swimming pool. The pool had an infrastructure that was built in the early 1950’s. And there were many moving parts to our facilities. From DAY ONE of the pool opening, our monthly/yearly budget set aside a calculated amount of money for the eventual replacement of every single part and piece of our facilities. And the pool dues remained virtually unchanged over the years. And the pool never went to the membership for “balloon” payments for repair and replacement. All of those things were calculated and money was SAVED to pay for them.
Every part and piece of anyone’s infrastructure has a more or less FIXED lifespan. and any agency, corporation … or public utility … should be fiscally honest and responsible … from DAY ONE … to BUDGET for these repairs/replacements. But what has happened in government (and public utilities) is that leftist accountants are robbing those “responsible” pots of $$$ … and distributing the $$$ to “pet projects”, “executive bonuses”, “Gold-plated pensions”, etc. But when government (including Public Utility Commissions) make it so easy to shake-down the rate-payers/Tax-payers for more $$$, then there is no motivation for fiscal responsibility. Bottom line is that 95% of the “infrastructure” replacement should already have been funded. We are getting RIPPED OFF. And the “infrastructure” argument is just the latest EXCUSE to dig around in our pockets.
If a tiny community pool with tiny $$ dues can properly fund repairs to their infrastructure (with volunteer, amateur accountants) then government and utilities should be 100x more efficient and should be giving ratepayers REBATES as a result of their Ivy League graduate Accountancy genius.

  13. Mayo Schmidthead arrived just in time to scavenge the last bit of value of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, put a dagger in its heart, and in the process abscond with the time-built equities of its loyal patrons. FU Mayo!, and the golden horse you rode out on!

  14. “If a tiny community pool with tiny $$ dues can properly fund repairs to their infrastructure (with volunteer, amateur accountants) then government and utilities should be 100x more efficient and should be giving ratepayers REBATES as a result of their Ivy League graduate Accountancy genius”
And therein lies the problem, “government and utilities should be 100x more efficient”! Why should they? We the people who supposedly are the government elect officials to ensure that what we are paying for is what is delivered. When it doesn’t get delivered we throw the incompetents out and vote in more incompetents in without any retribution to the ‘elected’ officials that were replaced. In fact we reward the losers with a gold plated pension. Maybe just maybe we’ll wake up one day and see how stupid we really are.

  15. Re: ”As I recall the previous president Leroy Larsen was the one who fatally wounded Sask Pool.”
You’re partly right. However I believe that what fatally wounded the Sask Wheat Pool and UGG that were merged into Agricore along with Manitoba and Alberta Wheat Pool was the shift from growing wheat to other crops such as lentils, field peas, Canola etc. Add to that the drought and economic recession of the 80’s, the demise of the Canadian Wheat Board, the loss of the Crowsnest Pass freight agreement, the closures of hundreds of rail lines on the prairies and the trend towards larger farms, it was the end of an era. It all happened within about 15 years. I rode the waves of that storm, it was hard on everyone.
I think Ontario Hydro is about to see the same scenario unfold. I don’t think mayo Schmidt will save them.

  16. All that required upgrade of the distribution network is required because of the ruinous contracts signed with solar energy producers. Should have signed with Quebec Hydro ages ago with their green hydro energy.

  17. Except hydro isn’t really “green” either. The term used for hydro projects is “build first, then paint green”.

  18. just last nite on shaw satellite, there was a rerun of an episode of a series discussing huge engineering fcukups.
the design of the wind farm somewhere in the north sea used some sort of concrete ‘caulking’ to join the generator proper to the submerged mount.
CONSTANT swaying from the wind they were capturing caused a ‘sandpaper effect’ and threatened to topple 80% of them.
jeezuz murphy. they couldnt put up a couple dozen of them to test the design? ah hell no!!!
