Low-fat diets could raise the risk of early death by almost one quarter, a major study has found.
The Lancet study of 135,000 adults found those who cut back on fats had far shorter lives than those enjoying plenty of butter, cheese and meats.
Researchers said the study was at odds with repeated health advice to cut down on fats.
h/t Oz

The Lancet? ‘Nuff said.
They burnt their credibility a few years back.
Remember this?

CNN doing a number on The Lancet; priceless.
“Eat things which your grandmother would recognize.” Michael Pollen is an irritating git but he gets this right.
I interviewed Mark Bittman once and he told me, “Steak is nature’s fast food.” Amen. Sugar, not so much.
Most of all, enjoy eating. Yes, it is fuel. But it is also pleasure. A great steak, duck fat fried potatoes, a rather good Shiraz from Oz…that was tonight’s dinner and, with luck, maybe dinner in another couple of days.
I may live to 62 or 92, but I will enjoy every bite.
amen, brother
I have said that in the past. Eat the way your grandparents ate, the same way we ate as kids. If we are genetically predisposed to live a long life that type of diet will help.

If my grandparents grew up in Portugal or Japan perhaps. But my paternal grandparents grew up and lived in Newfoundland where there was no fresh food three or more months of the year. Almost no fruit and just root crop vegetables. The salt intake was off the charts high.
I suspect the same applies to people from Scandinavia or the steppes.
A bowl o rolled oats for brekkie topped with real maple syrup.
Made porridge for grandfather as a lad. He liked to wash it down with prune juice.
Shovelled snow and swung the scythe in his 90’s. Passed shy of 101.
If anyone is interested in learning more about diet, nutrition, and obesity, I recommend reading Dr. Jason Fung’s books. He’s a nephrologist out of Toronto, and he’s had some amazing successes at not only reversing type II diabetes in his patients, but also with sustained weight loss. Ultimately, it’s not calories in/calories out as we’ve been taught. Our weight is regulated by our hormones, and one hormone in particular, insulin, is causing the obesity epidemic. Insulin is triggered by low fibre carbohydrates, such as sugar and flour. Constantly triggering insulin reactions leads to weight gain, insulin resistance, and ultimately type II diabetes. You can check out his blog, https://intensivedietarymangement.com for more info.
Dr Atkins discovered those factors 30 years ago.
Simple carbs are the bad boys of our diet. In that regard, whites ARE the bad guys! Rice, flour, sugar, pasta, yes potatoes too.
Load up on the bacon and steak boys!
Something about Atkins

No surprise here. Most of the people I know who are obsessed with having a fats/red meat/sugar/salt-free diet are stressed up tighter than a Baptist spinster in a whorehouse.
Emergency responders can all rhyme off the times they’ve been called because some fit-as-a-fiddle guy or girl in their forties has dropped dead after jogging or cycling or playing tennis. Not too many calls though for an old fat guy dying in his easy chair, drinking beer, and eating popcorn while watching a football game.
Lack of dietary fat explains the proliferation of ANTIFA, snowflakes, millennials, SJW’s, Democrats, ad nauseam … http://kidshealth.org/en/parents/fat.html
It seems as though dietary FAT is essential for proper BRAIN and nervous system development in humans. Essential ! How many well-intentioned, helicopter, Baby-boomer, parents starved their infants and children of all saturated fats, cholesterol, etc. How many put their small children on vegan diets … thus causing developmental disabilities? If there is truly a CRISIS of autism in children … perhaps the cause is dietary? My own M-in-Law went apoplectic when she saw how much RED MEAT we fed our children. She had just watched Oprah warn of children with “high cholesterol” as an American CRISIS!!!! So my M-in-Law offered to have my children’s cholesterol levels checked … I honestly don’t know how my marriage survived this little helpful nugget of wisdom from my M-in-Law. I somehow “politely” told her to piss-off and MHOB. This came right after she chided us for using a wood cutting board, because Oprah told her they were “dangerous” repositories of bacteria. Uh … I had to explain to her that I own soap, and know how to handle food in a sanitary manner … like not prepping my salad on an unwashed cutting board after cutting up a raw chicken. Geeze … Oprah has done more damage to our society than any other single entity EVER.
About time we’uns deplorables has too drop off earlier if the gubbermint bureaucracy and their off-spring are going to live long enough to be around for the A-I eternal life.
Spending Tax-Dollars on the deplorable is Just In thinking a wath of time and funding.

Au contraire, the ambulance calls for the latter do come in commonly enough.
After, the ordour gets too strong and the neighbours can’t recall seeing him of late.
So you attack the good Dr, rather than look at the body of evidence?
The high carb low fat diet has been a disaster
she should know about ‘weight loss’ having gone thru the cycle 58 times.
feel free all to find and watch ‘the men who made us fat’

according to the producers, it’s all that refined sugar esp ‘high fructose corn syrup’ that has added millions of tonnes to partakers of the sweet life.
fweeettt!!! hey, charlie, charles darwin, I got a whole bunch of new candidates for your Darwin Awards !!!
Makes you wonder…
All the people who came up with these “Canada Food Guide” ideas were eugenicists weren’t they. I suspect from the beginning, they all wanted the world depopulated to a large extent. Margaret Sanger, Ancel Keys, Rachel Carson, …
Actually, I don’t attack, really don’t care one way or another, just something found on the net.
If I remember right the guy died of a hart attack or something and his veins were clear as could be.
Had an Italian sausage as my health food for breakfast yesterday!
Without using DDG or Bing or that other one that fires people for scientifically based opinions, I seem to recall that Dr. Atkins slipped on an icy sidewalk and fell and hit his head and died after a few months flat on his back in a hospital bed. Any cardiovascular issues he had were consistent with being flat in your back in bed for that long. YMMV
Also remember a lecture on a cassette tape back in the 80’s on the danger of a low fat diet. The speaker was a veterinarian who became a medical doctor. He said the brain needs fat. He also said if you put a pig on a low fat diet it developments symptoms of dementia (don’t ask me how you determine that a pig has dementia). He figured the physiology of pigs and humans are pretty close and there was a lesson for us there.
Bonus – Why can’t men get mad cow disease? Men are pigs!
sorry Gord, as did mine, healthy as a horse as the saying goes, lived into their nineties and my mother is ninety seven. Nothing wrong with Newfie diet of that era.
