Wild Poppy Country.

SLAP!

“I felt it was rather arrogant of our government to feel that they should be granted the opportunity to deliver yet another canned message on a day that is for so many families about remembering their loved ones,” said Rosalind Davis, co-founder of Changing the Face of Addiction, a Calgary-based non-profit.

  1. “Safe injection site” remains an oxymoron. We have had them for years in Vancouver and we still have a slum, crazies, high crimes of theft and more deaths. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders whether the hot money wants to create a crisis to enable more government regulation while the mob gets rich going legit.

  2. Giving drug addicts more drugs does not appear to me as being the most prudent way of helping them to get of the dependence of drugs.
Perhaps the $1.2 mil for renovations might better well be spent with treatment programs.
Just thinking that the alcoholic that goes to a safe sight to consume alcohol probably won’t help the individual kick the habit.
But I suppose smarter people than I are in the decision making circles.

  3. On another point. The federal government approved a tent as a safe injection sight immediately after it was set up yet it takes decades for a pipeline approval that will save lives, protect the environment and create economic growth.
    Again, smarter people than I….

  4. The safe injection sites were meant to reduce overdose deaths and disease transmission, and they work very well. Shouldn’t be tax-payer subsidized however.
The NDP should continue its ‘do nothing’ policy, one of their few good ones. Beats whatever ‘action plan’ the police would employ I’m sure. The only policy change worth making is drug legalization.

  5. Yeh, ’cause legalizing Fentanyl laced opioids is going to stop the carnage. How exactly?
The Fentanyl is being added to increase the potency of the product; why would an addict want the less potent version which presumably will be what’s on the menu at Chez Safesite(?). *
I still don’t understand why I’m paying for these drug supermarkets. Property crime hasn’t gone down, deaths are up, the number of addicts is up.
Smitherenzes’ alcohol analogy is spot on.
    * We already have this model in operation; approved, Gov’t produced, inferior cannabis is sooo in demand.

  6. The fentanyl is only prevalent because of the ban on opium. Legal opium and opium products will eliminate any need for fentanyl. Also, the legal products will be transparent; addicts will know exactly what they’re shooting themselves up with.

  7. The NDP says ohhhhhhhh mammmmmaaaa … about the opioid epidemic. Ohhhhhhhh mammmmmaaa … here … have an opioid substitute and a fresh needle. Your fellow countrymen feel fine working hard to pay for your fix. It’s their moral obligation.

  8. Maybe the flatland Commies are waiting for the lotus land Commies to fix it.
Cuz Horgan has promised to fix everything, quickly. Nirvana is just around the corner apparently!
I sorta agree with Unthing, give them as much legal hard drugs as they want. Let em drop like fleas. Zero sympathy!

  9. addicts will know exactly what they’re shooting themselves up with
By analogy, one rarely sees dysfunctional alcoholics paying extra for the high-quality Jim Beam instead of the Mad Dog 40-40.

  10. What a bunch of BS. Fentanyl is prevalent because much of it comes from China and is cheap. The push to legalize drugs is about as stupid a policy as you can imagine. The mass producers can and will produce their counterfeit drugs and undercut the legitimate drugs.

  11. dopes do dope. even dumber people want to make it possible for them to kill themselves with clean needles.

  12. Are you people saying that a gray wall is magenta and the severely normal say it is gray while those that went to school for a long time and got completely useless education insist it’s magenta are wrong?
Hope it’s clear as muddy water, heh

  13. Unme says: “The safe injection sites were meant to reduce overdose deaths and disease transmission, and they work very well.”
Let’s carry this free needle thing just a bit further. Let’s think outside the box.
What is really needed is a direct injection pump, like those insulin pumps that some diabetics use. A measured dose is delivered automatically so that the user never need to come down. Add a feeding tube and waste plumbing and stack the addicts in bunks in warehouses until they die. Costs could be controlled through automation and from direct contributions BY PEOPLE WHO CARE.
Grade & high schools could have field trips to these warehouses to show consequences of opioid (is that really a word?) use. Crime would drop. No more drug addicted children. No more spreading of diseases. Drug dealers would go out of business. What’s not to like.
Okay, it’s all sarcasm …. or is it?

  14. “…We just don’t think that the government has acted with any sense of urgency. Whether or not that demonstrates apathy or incompetence or discrimination, we just didn’t feel comfortable having Minister Payne get up and speak,” said Davis.”
So. What happened to the kindler, gentler bunch you voted for, Rosalind?

  15. If they wanted to guarantee overwhelming and enthusiastic political participation in their event, they should have prefaced the title of the event with the words “Gay Pride”

  16. the uninformed preaching about it’s uninformedness. I’v had to del with drug addicted kids (my own) and say you are full of shit.
Also, legalized booze does nothing to stop alcohol problems, I know, one of my kids is an alcoholic. And yah know what unthing, alcoholics actually go out and intentionally break the law, just as druggies do.

  17. Fentanyl – God’s gift to addiction treatment. As someone has more or less stated above, what professional recommends treating addiction by making consumption easier? None. Having the government enable addicts does them harm. Instead of taxing my booze, maybe the government should be paying for it.

  18. @UnMe
“Legal opium and opium products will eliminate any need for fentanyl…..addicts will know exactly what they’re shooting themselves up with.”
So who cares. They are more than welcome to poison themselves on their own dime with whatever chemical concoction they can scrounge up.

  19. “I’v had to del with drug addicted kids (my own)….”
Probably should have given them some religion.

  20. The Opioid Crisis is Just in Thinking to follow the Democrat Party effort of Mis-direction on any thing; such as Russia-Russia-Russia- et-al to divert the Rampant intrusion of Islamist supportive themes into American Policy.
Such an intrusion is believed to be, and I am one with this opinion, the greatest mis-direction attempt; possibly up to and beyond Sharia law as a co-dependent addition to the U.S.A. Constitution.
One only has to move back in Ontario’s Policy discussions under Premier Dalton McGuinty to remember the Ontario Liberal Party flirtation with introducing Sharia Law into Ontario as an additional acceptable means of justice.

  21. I thought a safe consumption site was a restaurant.
My impression is the hard left is not sympathetic to the heavy illicit drug user as they rarely promote or contribute to the socialist manifesto.
Opioid addicts are usually the result of the liberal mantra “do what feels good” gone bad.

  22. Fentanyl wouldn’t undercut the legal drugs BECAUSE THEY WOULD BE CHEAP.
NME: you sucked at parenting. Stop blaming drugs.

unme preaches… and they work very well.”
how about “safe sexual aggression sites” where psychos and child molesters
can take out their rage on surrogates and suffer no consequences?
or we could just lock the sick f@cks up in a baffin island prison and create
jobs in the economically depressed north.
stand by for unme to defend rapists in three, two…

don’t stop there, mr gentle socialist. you could say something cutting about

as long as those junkies get the whole magilla, huh?
“Next logical step… pressure Home Depot to set up “Safe Huffing” sites

  26. @UnMe
    “Harming yourself =/= harming others”
Cutting your wrists at best is potentially only harming your families feelings.
Drug addictions = the serious potential for property & violent crime + medical, mental health conditions, along with welfare issues forced upon taxpayers.
Limit personal taxation to basic shared public services and provide proper self protection rights for taxpaying citizens, then it’s 100% agreed that druggies should be allowed to chew legally obtained fentanyl like candy 24/7.

  27. “@UnMe “Harming yourself =/= harming others
ol’ unme is obviously (thank the gawds) not a parent…
or, for that matter, the previous victim of a junkie
    street mugging.

  28. Exactly. One can only find lefty studies done by the enabling “help the druggies industry” crowd, like all the so-called non-profits and SJW civil servants. Meanwhile, the druggies steal my heirlooms, sell them, buy illegal drugs, shoot up illegal drugs at BC sponsored sites (how is this legal?), and run around shouting the f-bomb after getting to fights with other drug-crazied friends once free to leave. Re-hab is a joke – very rarely available, desired or successful. Having had their lives saved, maybe, they rack up enormous health care costs and continue to be a walking net loss over a lifetime. Meanwhile, I have to pay for the industry and be very careful to not run over these unsocialized people who jay-walk on the busiest of roads when I am trying to get groceries. The whole program is a complete fail.

  29. By the way, never reply to lefty trolls who ask for but never produce any data. Legalizing pot is the first step to impoverishing the population by enabling drug-induced mellowing of thought. The next step is legalizing and regulating opioid use. The justification will be that the drugs are fentanyl-free and “saves” lives. Sounds safe to me (sarc on).

    heroin… and other victimless crimes…
    — VICTORIA — A drug-fuelled series of crimes is costing the City of Victoria
thousands of dollars in repairs and lost revenue, and fixing the situation could
    cost much more.

All together, the city is out $265,000, and the losses mount every day.

  31. “ol’ unme is obviously (thank the gawds) not a parent… ”
This response deepens my convictions that parents of youth must not be allowed to vote. They are too stupid. They think that it’s the world’s job to grab their ankles for the sake of their precious snowflakes.
“Drug addictions = the serious potential for property & violent crime + medical, mental health conditions, along with welfare issues forced upon taxpayers.”
All thanks to the War on Drugs.
“Limit personal taxation to basic shared public services and provide proper self protection rights for taxpaying citizens, then it’s 100% agreed that druggies should be allowed to chew legally obtained fentanyl like candy 24/7.”
Nope. Imma fight for all my freedoms regardless of which ones I already have.
“Legalizing pot is the first step to impoverishing the population by enabling drug-induced mellowing of thought. The next step is legalizing and regulating opioid use. ”
Colorado continues to not suffer any of the terrible consequences fear-mongerers like you claimed would happen. The genie is out of the bottle. Even AG Jeff Sessions can’t stop it.

  32. UnMe: “Imma fight for all my freedoms regardless of which ones I already have.”
Heh, you do that, and the rest of us will most definitely fight for ours.
Don’t get me wrong I delight in that you enjoy frying your brain and have no children to spread on the “culture”. It entertainingly proves that Darwin was right and that everyone else is on the right track.
Keep posting, you should get a award for your service to conservative arguments.
