We, the undersigned, residents of Canada draw the attention of the House to the following: That given that the Minister of Public Safety’s unelected Canadian Firearms Advisory Committee will shape the future of firearm regulation in our country, its members must adequately understand and represent the very people affected by its recommendations, being Canada’s shooting community. Therefore, your petitioners, call upon the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to require individuals appointed to the Canadian Firearms Advisory Committee to have earned their Possession and Acquisition License (PAL), without which they lack a baseline understanding of the activities they are tasked with regulating.
You can sign at the link.

WARNING – do not use a government e-mail account when you’re signing this; that’s specifically prohibited in the instructions.
I came-upon this at work and was halfway through signing it when I read the “must read”, the ‘Terms of Use’, which mentions another “must-read”, the ‘Electronic Petitions — Guide for Signatories’, that you must go shopping-for; it isn’t linked-to in the Terms of Use. In that, it specifies that e-mailing from a gummint addy invalidates your signature.
Send it home.
If I was Canadian, rest assured I would sign.
Don’t end up with clowns like this guy, pulling regulations out of his rear-end.

They attempt to validate your petition signing via e-mail. When I clicked on the link in the e-mail, I received a “Secure Connection Failed. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading” message, with no way to correct the error other than contacting the site admins.
That oughta affect the amount of signatories they get.
tried to sign but there were too many idiocies. no matter how many times I put my phone number in it did not like the placement of hyphens. too bad so sad. make it easy or don’t do it.
Silly petition. Should legislators ruling on abortions be required to have had one or had a child?
This kind of idiocy does not help the cause.
To get around the “Secure Connection Failed” error message when using Firefox (as I am), copy the URL in your confirmation e-mail and paste it into another browser such as Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Then hit “Return.”
Your confirmation will go through.
I remember when Firefox was a much better browser, but now it’s just becoming a PITA.
So, having regulators have some understanding about what they are speaking to is a bad thing?
You don’t need the have had an abortion to know it kills a baby.
To your way of thinking one needs no experience at anything to declare oneself an expert and rule over the rest of us.
It does kind of explain Tudeau, Notley and Wynne.
Another downfall of this is that it makes no mention of what type of PAL.
I.E., restricted and non-restricted.
Apples and oranges. First, these people are not ‘legislators’. They are not elected.
The amount of ignorance about firearms, especially among urban elites, is mind-boggling. Even Justin Trudeau is on record saying C-42 allowed firearms owners to walk around with guns everywhere.
All we ask is committee members take a weekend course and pass the exam. This is not asking much.
You’ve really have drunk the Kool-Aid.
Abortions are about killing a baby; your starting premise is that it’s just about the parents.
You can also just remove the S from HTTPS…Firefox helpfully told me the page wasn’t actually secured, so changing the URL to match works. Your government at work.
This is a waste of time. Pretending the Canadian Firearms Advisory Committee will be anything other than a rubber stamp for the Liberals is delusional.
Let one hundred flowers bloom.
If the same practice that is used with Indian Affairs is followed, all those making decisions will be First Nations,… or GUN OWNERS…
The Canadian Royal commissions are a crap sandwich….
Just short of 15,000 so far. Come on Saskatchewan, that is a pathetic turnout so far.
It doesn’t take a chicken to judge an egg. Absolutely they should have an understanding of the issues. But to insist they be active participants in it is to set a precedent for a whole lot of other things.
Another example: should we insist that members of the Cbc’s board be loyal/regular viewers of the Cbc?
Please see my comment above. You are supporting a concept that could be wielded against us on several other areas.
ah yes. lieberals revisiting the firearms regulation e-v-e-r-y time they win (or is that ‘wynne’?) an election.
some sort of govt department growth industry eh?
how many billions will this cost?
remember when paul martin, aka ‘mr offshore ship registration’ opined during one of his attempts to broach the subject, that perhaps handguns would be seized.
– no mention of the restitution issue
– no mention the chill it put on the LEGITIMATE target shooting and hunting sports AND the gun shops that serve that sector,
ie: A. anybody thinking of joining in the sport has SERIOUS second thoughts about any purchase
B. anybody already IN the sport may decide to ‘get out while the gettings good’ and sell their firearms at a loss.
C. meanwhile the gun shops don’t want to get stuck with HUGE inventory when the lieberals carry out their scheme, so they put a moratorium of the OWN on buying anything.
etc etc. go#*$&mn politishuns. meddle meddle meddle. they ALL do it.
Before anyone loses their minds, here is the list of who is actually on the committee:
https://www.canada.ca/en/public-safety-canada/news/2017/03/new_members_to_thecanadianfirearmsadvisorycommitte.html
Judging by experience from our local municipality trying to change the shooting bylaws, I think this is a good idea. There was (surprising to the local gov’t) standing room only at the public meeting as the local gun enthusiasts came out in force. The first sentence out of the mayors mouth at the beginning of the meeting was that he hoped folks didn’t come armed. To those without a PAL, it might seem funny. Those who have attended the course would fully understand why there was no laughter in the room.
I once attended a public meeting where the SK wood pussy (game warden) walked around with a side arm. Stupid.
“That given that the Minister of Public Safety’s unelected Canadian Firearms Advisory Committee will shape the future of firearm regulation in our country,”
Why are we so willing to abdicate a fundamental right so easily. If we concede that this committee will shape the future of firearms regulation then we have allowed the government the next step in dictating control and once they fully control there will be no firearms allowed in the country other than the military and LEAs. If you are in possession of a PAL and are a gun owner then the government already has you on a registry. Make no mistake Liberals are nothing more than NAZIs camouflaged in clown outfits. Their dress and actions are designed to comfort you but their raison d’etre is to control your life. They have eroded and subjugated a goodly portion of the Canadian way of life over their many years in power. They will continue with incremental steps to eliminate all firearms. They will not stop until we are all subjects, not citizens.
http://calibremag.ca/firearms-committee-member-insensitive-and-inappropriate-to-require-a-survivor-of-the-polytechnique-shootings-to-work-with-firearms/
Insensitive and inappropriate apparently
Always good to remind folks that the fed gov is Microsoft friendly when it comes to browsers.
Legislators don’t need to have had an abortion to designregulations for them. But the regulator should have some basic training / education regarding the topic beyond what they saw on Tv.
If it doesn’t specify R-PAL (restricted) then it is simply a PAL for non-restricted firearms.
Dont give me that “they’re coming to take all of my guns away” crap. I was an avid hunter in my younger days and still have my long guns. I always have been 100% opposed hand guns and assault rifles in the general population. The U.S. is the last country we want to emulate. Talk about f***ked up. In fact, one of the biggest threats to our security is smuggled guns from the US. We need to really step up efforts to curtail that. I think I would be an exellent candidate for the advisory committee.
No, you wouldn’t. You’re a FUDD.
Signed online and now there are two black Suburbans with blacked out windows, black rims, and battering ram front bumpers parked out front. And my My Rogers internet has been dropping every five minutes or so since the Suburbans arrived.
On the upside, they did not stop the Canpar guy this afternoon from delivering my crates of GP-11 and 7.62 Tokarev.
Maybe they are here for the grow op neighbors. At least that’s what I keep telling myself.
Fudds are lower than liberals. Complete scum. The next deer I kill with my AR15 will be dedicated to Hoppsing.
Pay close attention when they say “gun collectors and hunters”. They are deliberately leaving out the very large group of people that run the gun industry in Canada and that is the sport shooters. There is a large group of handgun and other restricted shooters who make up the handgun shooting sports like IPSC, IDPA, 3-gun and cowboy action shooting and a large number of shotgun shooters that would never shoot a duck in their life. Instead they shoot trap, skeet and sporting clays. The Olympics do have shooting sports although you will never see them on CBC therefore they don’t exist. They might be very surprised at the backlash they create.
The committee is stacked with anti-gun activists, with only two persona, the Olympic shooter, and the Ducks Unlimited guy who were against the LGR.
This is a typical Liberal committee, stacked so that their agenda sails through with little debate.
Having an professional activist on the committee who is a survivor of the Marc Lepine Massacre and who has been vociferously against the cancelling of the LGR and extremely pro gun control, does not bode well for us hunters.
In ten years we’ll be hunting with muzzle loaders.
Turtle said: “Before anyone loses their minds, here is the list of who is actually on the committee…”
It doesn’t MATTER who is on the committee. The report has already been written. Everything they’re doing right now is propaganda and getting your name on a list.
Gord said: “Another example: should we insist that members of the Cbc’s board be loyal/regular viewers of the Cbc?”
Loyal, no. Viewers, absolutely. They should have to watch what they preside over.
I can appreciate your cynicism but honestly believe our lil potato pays attention to vocal groups.
make as much noise as you can, it will pay off. Tell everyone you think will be willing to sign the petition.
Staying quiet on the issue will certainly do no good at all.
Hoppsing said: “I always have been 100% opposed hand guns and assault rifles in the general population.”
Guys like you are the reason I chase hunters off my land every f-ing year during deer season and duck/goose season. Trespassers with guns, who think only they are smart enough to own a gun. Me, just a landowner, I don’t rate. Right?
Others have said it better than I ever could – shills.
They will come-up with the conclusions the LIE-berals already wrote for the committee before it was formed, and will be roundly applauded for their “service to all Canadians”. Or they won’t – and will be roundly ignored, and nobody will ever hear a word they said; most particularly, not the LIE-berals. Harpo did the same with several recommendations from his gun control commission.
“READ MY LIPS – we will scrap the GST!” Yeah, we’ve seen this game before…
You miss my point. I said loyal/regular viewers. IOW only people who watched Cbc regularly BEFORE being considered for appointment need apply.
And FUDDs in Canada all have their PAL. Which means this petition would accomplish exactly nothing. Except put your name on a target list.
More likely bows and arrows, no on second thought that would be cultural appropriation, so probably rocks and sharpened sticks.
Gord really?
Nothing to do with abortion. What a stupid comment.
When people are making recommendations on the direction we should take about the legitimacy of a sport that has more participants than those who golf or ski, they better damn well have experience and skin in the game. Going through the process of acquiring a PAL or better, an RPAL is the least they can do educate themselves so they can to fulfill their roles. Most will find shooting sports exciting, rewarding and a skill once attained and practiced potentially valuable.
Not stupid at all. This insistence that only participants should be eligible to regulate is non-sensical and dangerous.
If you don’t like the abortion analogy there plenty of others.
I get it. People should be free to do whatever you permit them to do. Very Liberal of you, thanks.
– Said far better than I ever could, by Marriott Edgar, who wrote most of Stanley Holloway’s stuff:
“And it’s through that there Magna Charter,
As were signed by the Barons of old,
That in England to-day we can do what we like,
So long as we do what we’re told.”
{ – lifted from allpoetry.com/Magna-Charta – }
Canada resembles that remark:
“And it’s there through the Canadian Constitution,
As signed by the Politicos of old,
That in Canada to-day we can do what we like,
So long as we do what we’re told.”
I had trouble at first and then took your advice in removing the S on HTTPS and then it went through.
Along with Don Morris, I don’t think this petition will help as I believe the Liberals are going to stack the deck to bring in even more onerous firearms regulations. I still am upset with Harper in not removing the original Bill C-68.
