38 Replies to ““Organic” Is The Latin Word For “Grown In Pig Shit””

  1. A&W, Earls and anyone else who uses this scare tactic to sell their product, doesn’t deserve the steam off a pile of manure.

  2. Take that, A&W! I tried an A&W burger the other day and in addition to the long delay in service, it tasted like salty sawdust. Good Root Beer though.

  3. I haven’t eaten much fast food in the past 15 years. I can’t say that I miss it.
As far as A & W’s burgers are concerned, the ones I made at home tasted a lot better.

  4. There needn’t be antibiotic residues for there to be antibiotic resistant pathogens present.
    http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/10/29/antibiotics-meat-production.aspx
One example given is drug-resistant urinary infections, which are on the rise. If the antibiotics fail to wipe out the bacteria, the infection can progress to your kidneys, which allows the bacteria access to your blood. The result is sepsis, which kills 40,000 Americans each year.
Using state of the art genome sequencing, researchers were able to compare E.coli samples found on supermarket meat with E.coli samples collected from patients with drug-resistant urinary tract infections. In this way, they were able to genetically link more than 100 urinary tract infections to tainted supermarket meat products.

  5. “The FDA has learned, however, that some farmers use antibiotics that aren’t even intended for cows because the drugs go undetected by these tests. The agency studied milk from close to 2,000 dairy farms, roughly half of which were under suspicion, and half of which were random samples. More than 1% of the under-suspicion group, and .4% of the other samples, tested positive for six antibiotics not FDA-approved for use on dairy cows.

  6. I worked in the dairy industry for a few years and observed that every shipment of milk we received was tested in our lab for antibiotics. If our tests were not conclusive samples were sent immediately to another lab for confirmation. We did not dump any shipment during my time there.

  7. “…every shipment of milk we received was tested in our lab for antibiotics.”
Great, so which antibiotics did your lab test for? -time.com/3738069/fda-dairy-farmers-antibiotics-milk/

  8. This is the familiar SJW boilerplate. Farmers are evil money grubbers out to poison your kids. Dairies are evil Capitalists and don’t care what they sell. Supermarkets are in on the scam with them. Et Cetera.
Whatever happened to Animals Are Sacred, hmm? We should let cows die of preventable disease so that Eli doesn’t get antibiotics in his/her/its latte?
The herd caught something like the cow cold? Just kill them all and start over, Mr. Farmer dude. Oh, and don’t forget you gotta pay money to have those infected cow corpses safely disposed of. What, you’ll go broke? Too bad, its your own fault for listening to SJWs pal.
Just do what the vet says and tell Eli to cram it.

  9. Hey, Eli, and stradivarius, there was are detectable levels of cyanide in many edible plants, which is produced by the plant itself! Your standard of ” detectable ” is bs, in other words. Your notion that the natural world is pristine and that food as presented by the natural world is best for human health is laughable and ignorant. You ingest lethal organisms every day, even when you are eating supposedly pristine ” organic” food. The reason you don’t get sick is that your body can deal with low levelsof most pathogens. The same has been found to be true of antibiotics; below certain thresholds, low levels have no detectable negative impact on human health. ( you should know that, in fact, many people are prescribed daily, low doses of antibiotics for life, for treatment of chronic conditions- to improve their health, in other words. ).
The medical profession studies antibiotics scientifically to improve human health, unlike those on the left, who warn us of non-existent threats to advance a radical political agenda that they could not advance without the lies they generate about the safety of the food supply. Until you can scientifically refute their research you are spreading scientifically unsound opinions when you throw up scare ” facts ” about the dangers of antibiotic traces in food, and , in fact, you are harming human well-being.

  11. I can’t recall ever giving antibiotics to an adult cow back when I raised cattle. I treated some calves, maybe a year or two before they were slaughtered. Antibiotics are much more common in the dairy industry but only a sadistic lunatic would think there was something wrong with treating infected animals.
If anyone is wondering what is causing antibiotic resistance look no further than most of the world where antibiotics are freely available to illiterate savages without prescription. Poverty and illiteracy means these people are likely to take a day or two of drugs instead of a full course thus allowing a small portion of bacteria to survive, stronger than ever. Veterinary antibiotics are not the problem, neither am I.

  12. Somewhat related:
Not a shot! Anti-vax movement prompts Brooklynites to withhold inoculations from their pets, vets say
A Clinton Hill–based veterinarian said she has heard clients suggest the inoculations could give their pups autism, however, echoing the argument of those who oppose vaccinating kids. But even if pooches were susceptible to the condition, their owners probably wouldn’t notice, according to the doctor.
“I had a client concerned about an autistic child who didn’t want to vaccinate the dog for the same reason,” said Dr. Stephanie Liff of Clinton Hill’s Pure Paws Veterinary Care. “We’ve never diagnosed autism in a dog. I don’t think you could.”

  13. Well said as was scar’s comment and the original article.
The lies and misinformation regarding meat and antibiotics, as well the anti-vax religion, are just as insidious as the gigantic AGW fraud.

  14. “We’ve never diagnosed autism in a dog. I don’t think you could.”
Ehem! Well, well, well – we’ve got a dog named Retard for neurological reasons. The dog named itself. My wife has another name for it in polite company.

  15. There are a number of dairies in my little valley here in B.C. There is one less as of this past spring. The farmer lost his quota because of milk quality where pathogens were showing up in testing. Most people do not realize that every time milk is picked up at a dairy it is tested. This farmer could not run a clean enough operation and was forced out as a result.
It was mentioned above that using drugs or growth hormone was often a last result because of residual concerns. Another obvious reason is cost. It simply does not make economic sense in most cases.

  16. And then we have the occasional report that a dairy animal was found with Mad Cow Disease, but no part of that animal entered the food chain !
    Yeah, Right !

  17. One of my little luxuries in life is the personal consumption of “Bubbies” Bread and Butter pickles. Quite literally, they taste like those my Great Grandmother, Yerda, used to make (they cost $8.00 at my local boutique grocery store!). My expensive jar of pickles has a large NOTICE on the label reminding the consumer that this jar of pickles is … “gluten free” … “as it has always been”. I suppose this notice is there to inform the average dullard (read: “organic food” Nazi) that there isn’t really any “bread” or “butter” in this jar of pickles. Not to mention the currently “in-vogue” notion that “going gluten-free” will “save” your life and make you “healthier”. So … my otherwise wonderful jar of pickles has a “political statement” on its label. Trust me … my Great Grandmother, Yerda, would have some colorful words describing the idiots who put that label on a pickle jar … not to mention the “organic” food Nazis. What does this have to do with our hormone-free meat supply? … Everything. The average “natural” food Nazi has forced manufacturers to overcome their dis-information campaign (propaganda) about our food supply … about nutrition. As someone who believes in science … REAL science … not FAKE science … I absolutely loathe the contemporary “clean food” movement and the idgiots who “believe” that crap.

  18. Heh, thought that would bring out all the off the subject ‘is not’ city people nuts. Not a one who has raised thousands of cattle in their lifetime. Like they say, all hat no cattle…
Osteopathy, what in hell is that? Anyway, enjoy that rare steak along with the antibiotic resistant pathogens 🙂 Those 30 million lbs of sub-therapeutic antibiotics are used somewhere every year…
FSIS National Residue Program for Cattle
    https://www.usda.gov/oig/webdocs/24601-08-KC.pdf
Based on our review, we found that the national residue program is not accomplishing its mission of monitoring the food supply for harmful residues. Together, FSIS, FDA, and EPA have not established thresholds for many dangerous substances (e.g., copper or dioxin3), which has resulted in meat with these substances being distributed in commerce. Additionally, FSIS does not attempt to recall meat, even when its tests have confirmed the excessive presence of veterinary drugs.

  19. All your impressive and non-dispositive links aside, how long have you been ranching?

  20. ( Last post was to stradivarius ).
Do you oppose use of antibiotics because you believe there use might convey a cost advantage to ranchers who use them?

  21. I’ve been saying this for awhile now, but then again no one ever listens to or asks an actual producer. Same with hormones. The deceptive marketing of “hormone free meat” especially chicken preys on the majority of people’s ignorance of how food is produce. Chickens have never been fed hormones; thru selective breeding the animals reach market weight at an amazing 8-10 weeks of age. Same with pigs. Growth additives would just be another cost to bear. and most beef producers, at least in my neck of the woods, don’t use hormone implants. Even rBST is just giving the cow what she already has in her body to begin with, and it’s only for a very limited period of time to make her eat/produce more milk. Most don’t use it because either the dairy makes you sign a contract saying you won’t and because it causes lowered immunity. In other words, not worth it.

  22. Yes, I use antibiotics when necessary. That doesn’t mean I ignore the realities of the system. The main problem seems to be sub-therapeutic use by the feeders. It’s well known there is a positive effect to weight gain. Those 30 million lbs of antibiotics go somewhere each year.
As for synthetic hormones, they aren’t the same as natural or they couldn’t be patented.

  23. Facts are where you find them…and if you’re happy having the medical establishment treat the symptoms of your diabetes and other metabolic disorders, have at it.

  24. Kenji, I had to laugh at your ‘gluten free’ bread and butter pickles. I, too, find Bubbie’s B&B pickles awesome. Never gave a second thought, though, to the gluten free claim. I think I’ll go after my gas station to put gluten free on their pumps. Ridiculous, isn’t it?

  25. correct me if Im wrong, my impression about agricultural antibiotics was the manner in which they were used as *preventative* meds as opposed to case-by-case treatment.

  26. Duh.
    Cannot cure stupid.
All the obsessing over the mystery meat will do nothing to prolong your life.
Everyone has that sexually transmitted terminal disease..There is no escape..Life kills all.
But what a fine marketing meme, just as that old story,”The Emperors New Clothes”.
Face it 50% of us are below average, gullible saps.
    It is who we are.
Very soon some Big City Marketing Con Artist will sell the Jeffery Dalmer/Willie Pickton line of luncheon products.
    Certified Gluten Free.

  27. Great idea! Maybe if everyone knew gasoline was GLUTEN-free! they wouldn’t HATE it so much (as instructed by the eco-elites).

  28. Actually the data is quite clear that those adjuvants are harmless and there is no link to autism. At all.
Feeding antibiotics to animals on a prophylactic basis is obviously a bad idea. Great way to engender resistance.
