We’re all gonna boil and our eyes explode

Stephen Hawking claims that Trump withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Accord could lead to the Earth being pushed past a tipping point, with Venus-like 250 deg. C temperatures and sulfuric acid rain.

NASA Scientist (one of the real ones) Roy Spencer sets the record straight.

  1. For somebody who’s touted as one of the World’s great scientific minds, he often says some of the DUMBEST things.

  2. Just curious – why isn’t Stephen Hawking dead? Next question – does anyone believe that is his voice?
Isn’t he a math guy. Commenting on climate by a math guy would be as ridiculous as a janitor or a geneticist commenting – meaningless.

  3. Isn’t a math/physics guy commenting on climate almost as meaningless as a janitor or a fruit fly doctor doing the same thing?

  4. My first comment took about 5 minutes to post. Sorry for the duplicatish comment.

  5. On the subject of climate sensitivity- the temperature increase resulting from a doubling of CO2 concentrations- it’s not really the Armageddon claimed by climate alarmists. This sensitivity ranges from 1C to 6C, according to the IPCC. To put that in perspective, Saskatoon’s average yearly temperature is 2C so an increase of 1C and our climate would be like Edmonton, a 6C increase our temps would be like Toronto. Despite anyone’s feelings about Edmonton and Toronto, their climate isn’t hellish. And the assumptions the IPCC uses to get to 6C are extremely unlikely.
Another interesting facts that gets ignored is that 1)the most dramatic warming would be at the poles and mildest near the equator 2) most of the warming is warmer nights not warmer days. Global average temperature increases would not be evenly distributed. Those places that are colder would likely have a net benefit due to fewer cold related deaths and longer growing seasons.
    Not scary scenarios, imo.
The sooner climate science alarmists discard the pseudo religious sandwich boards prediction end of the world doom, the sooner practical and rational decisions can be made.

  6. “I have no idea where Hawking ever got such a wild idea. Apparently, he had his audience in tears with his dire predictions.”
I laughed out loud at that one.
Personally, I think Hawkings is a Social Justice Wheeler and that he simply put honesty aside so he could scare-monger for what he believes is the greater good. Proof that even geniuses can be agendized leftards.

  7. Hawking is a brilliant scientist but obviously his brain was not in gear when he issued that nonsense. Even cursory knowledge of palaeontology and geophysics informs you that our planet has much higher concentration of CO2 in the past, for example about 1,500 PPM during the Cretaceous era, and yet teemed with life.
A Venus-like atmosphere is simply impossible on this planet as most carbon is already trapped in rocks.

  8. My own view is that Hawking is bought and paid for. It is a propaganda strategy to seek out people with admirable reputations to support your cause. Often they know nothing about the topic, but figure it is a good cause. In Canada this was done with Stephen Lewis (maybe not you guys, but lots of people respect his views). Now the obvious point to make is that he knows nothing about climate, so should not be commenting on it. Same goes for Hawking. I am certain he is brilliant in his field, but he did not investigate the global warming issue. I expect he was given a convincing song and dance by those seeking to enlist his support. Likely (for his trouble) he was also given some cash. That is how the propaganda machine works.

  9. At one time (or perhaps “once upon a time”) I had a great deal of respect for Steven Hawking. At that time, I was in an Engineering Physics program in University and I was impressed by the depth to which he easily comprehended topics in math and physics that I was struggling with.
Slowly but eventually, I learned that even though he is a genius in math and physics – IMHO – he literally “hasn’t got the sense God gave a goose” when it comes to theology. Like most atheists, he mocks people for having faith in God, but he has made the false science of AGW his God.

  10. That was my first thought too because why else would an obviously intelligent person make such outrageous claims?
The other factors at play is Noble Cause Corruption: Noble cause corruption is corruption caused by the adherence to a teleological ethical system, suggesting that people will use unethical or illegal means to attain desirable goals, a result which appears to benefit the greater good.
The irony for Hawkins is that an atheist should be ashamed of using religious tactics like (climate) hell ,sin, redemption and paying for indulgences to manipulate people. Although I have noticed that progressive/liberal atheists are too often angry, arrogant and hypocritical. Conservative and libertarian atheists tend to be more tolerant.

  11. Poor man. He can say whatever, he has nothing to lose with the terrible disease he has endured for so many years.

  12. To be honest … I wonder who is really blinking at the computer screen and generating this nonsense ? It reminds me of my Mother-in-Law who “interpreted” for my Father-in-law after his debilitating stroke. He could only grunt, mumble, and gesture with his hands. But every single time my M-in-Law would ask him for permission to buy another Timeshare property with their retirement fund … she translated his violent grunts and moans as … a Yes! Let’s buy another timeshare ! (She bought six total). PS … he was a hardcore conservative man (after Reagan) who scrimped and saved, and invested, his whole life to eek out a retirement fund. My M-in-L blew thru it in 5-years. She died before him … and WE paid for his care facility for 5 more years.
Yeah … none of this is coming from Hawking … it. Is being interpreted by a Gllobal Warmist Cabal who have hijacked the personality cult that is, Stephen Hawking.

  13. Hawking would never support junk science (ie not demonstrable without ridiculous assumptions and omissions) to forward his theories on cosmology.
But the supposed marrying of human behaviour and chaotic climate – with zero empirical evidence to support a link between CO2 and warming – is OK?
The math and physics are precise, yet nobody argues string theory or universal expansion or indeed the big bang are proven, so not settled.
They debate it ad nauseum, but nobody says shut up, it’s settled or anyone is anti-science for questioning quantum mechanics or cosmology.
But he’s OK with this charlatan science? Has he ever checked the work? Here’s a strong rebuttal for Dr Hawking to come off his ideological high horse.
“The conclusive findings of this research are that the three GAST (Global Average Surface Temperature) data sets are not a valid representation of reality. In fact, the magnitude of their historical data adjustments, that removed their cyclical temperature patterns, are totally inconsistent with published and credible U.S. and other temperature data. Thus, it is impossible to conclude from the three published GAST data sets that recent years have been the warmest ever –despite current claims of record setting warming.”
For further elucidation. GAST = plot thermometer readings for one day from disparate weather stations, average for the whole world. Then average each day for the whole year for one point on the curve. Insert non-relevant data like historical at sea measurements, adjust vigorously, ensuring all rounding is biased towards warming, never cooling. Ignore all other data and voila: “Record temperatures, again.”
Aka Mann made data mining. IOW fake data and junk science with no relation to actual temperatures.

  14. Let me know when one of the so called “genuis’s theories is a proven theory. Until then….yawns

  15. Damn! Unbelievable! Little guy in a $%^&*#g wheelchair just jumped a shark!
Stay tuned for a new series of BBC documentaries…..

  16. Oh NO! If we go past the tipping point the planet will flip over and we’ll all fall off the Earth. That’s just like what happened to Guam.

  17. Hawking has made a living at imagining what’s in or beyond outer space. Do you know what is beyond our solar system?? Neither does he. Another scammer from the sci-fi mafia.

  18. I think a large part of Stephen Hawking’s funding is dependent upon him toeing the line on global climate change fake science.
    and, that is compromising.

  19. Kenji, scar and LindaL have hit on what I’ve been thinking for years. Someone has been pulling a “Weekend ant Bernie’s” on us with him for years. I think there is someone with a remote control behind him making a lot of money selling guest appearances and endorsements on TV.

  20. Interesting one of the world’s greatest minds and mathematician has a simple math ratio wrong! 400 parts per million is the ratio of CO2 in the atmosphere. Put 400 over 1,000,000 which equals 4 over 10,000 and that equals .0004 or 4 out of every 10,000 parts in the atmosphere is CO2. Cover yourself with a blanket that covers 4 ten thousands of you; how warm will you be? It is physically impossible that CO2 is warming up the earth!

  21. As I commented in the article, elitists like Stephen Hawking are still trying to kick not-so-worthy people off the “boat”.

  22. Guam? Inside joke?
Speaking of comic relief, it’s good to see the article mentions Bill Nye-the-comedy-guy!

  23. Hawking didn’t say it. There’s a little man inside the wheelchair typing into the voder.

  24. Fake news, or as LindL said, bought and paid for, or maybe the new Jeezus for the new religion.
SCAR, yup Math guys debunk a whole lot of shit, and there are quit a few that have debunked the gorebullshit theory. So Hawking would be the “go to guy” to verify or negate such a theory. I don’t know what’s up with Hawking, but I don’t believe this article at all.
OH, and as to those degrading Hawking, GFY you jealous twits

  25. Stephen Hawking is a sick man. Hawking doesn’t know any more about Global Warming/Climate Change than my dog.

  26. I agree, and Oz sums it up well.
Sad that a brilliant mind should come to this shilling for snake oil.

  27. Hawking can’t do his own research, he has to rely on his handlers and they are feeding him b—sh–. They should be jailed for using him this way.

  28. I really wonder what has happened to Stephen Hawkins!!! In his book “A Brief History of Time” he dismisses the idea that mankind could be affecting the climate! Now he’s made a complete reversal in thinking! He wouldn’t get a simple ratio wrong, as in my example!

  29. Reversal? Maybe the hand guiding the sock puppet isn’t as intelligent as the sock puppet formerly was.

  30. Who cares what this Hawking dude says, sort of a dimwit anyway; for credible analysis of climate physics Leonardo DiCaprio is your go to guy.

  31. .
If ever there was a likely science marionette to use for Global Warming BS. It’s Hawking.
There is no weather in space.
Stevie Hawking should donate his body to science fiction, immediately!
    .

  32. interpretation indeed. calls to mind the Law&Order episode where Goren stages an ‘interpretation’ session by the hospital bed. this was after the notorious Schiavo (sp) case in florida or wherever.
the thing about your m-in-law reminds me of my sister-in-law who sold a cottage my brother built from nothing over the course of about 40 years. a bee-U-tiful stone building with bay windows overlooking Lake Huron.
took her 40 *days* to put it on the market and proceeded to squander the proceeds. I haven’t spoken to her in over 4 years now.
Steven Hawkings is just recycling his 15 minutes of fame. proof that a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. I dont give a rodents derriere how esteemed he is, his claiming all ‘this’ popped out of NOTHING spontaneously and completely random according to *his* mathematical model says a lot.
    aka ’emperor’s new clothes syndrome’.

  33. uh no jjm, you got it right the first time.
    OCD ALERT !!!!!!
wen is the muck that comes out of a sebaceous cyst.

  34. Steven Hawking is a sad person. I would like a warming in the weather no snow to clear, no heating bills. I think we could save a lot of money by not buying winter clothes, boots, tires for the vehicle and the list goes on. Have a fantastic summer.

  35. Absolutely ! It’s classic “elder abuse” … and worse … severely disabled elder abuse. Annnnnnd … doesn’t Hawking live in the U.K. There is NO WAY the NHS is paying for all of Hawking’s extraordinary treatment and care. And I would assume the burn-rate of his set-up would have outstripped his book royalties in a few years. So WHAT or WHO is funding his HIGHLY unnatural extension of life ? Seems as though his “un-impeachable scientific opinions” are for sale to the highest bidder … and the UN IPCC won the sweepstakes.

  36. Hawking would never have said something so ridiculous. But the actor who has played him since his death many years ago has no such issues.
