KIll a medic, get money.

I am sickened. Who says murdering scum-bag terrorists don’t profit.
And please, no death threats in the comments section.
If Canada had any spine in the PMO, this whole payment will go to Khadr’s victims but I don’t know the law in this nor do I think the PMO knows what a backbone is.

Speer’s widow, Tabitha, and former soldier Layne Morris, who was wounded in the firefight and lost sight in one eye, sued Khadr in a Utah court for damages. In 2015, a Salt Lake judge handed down a $134.2-million (U.S.) default settlement after receiving no reply from Khadr or his lawyers.

  1. After reading that, I’m ashamed to be a Canadian. Was it coincidental that this was published right after the sesquicentennial of Confederation?

  2. I don’t think it was an accident in that this was published at this time. The Canada 150 celebration and the US Independence Day Holiday will have both smothered this issue.
This is truly sickening! I do not know how his lawyers can live with themselves.

  3. What a disgrace. If Maher Arar was plausibly a victim of injustice, Khadr is much less so.
There were two problems with the Arar award: (1) the amount was far in excess of what was reasonable; (2) Canada was the third-most-responsible nation for his plight, not the first — after Syria and the United States. This was one of Harper’s biggest errors.
Let’s just hope Khadr doesn’t do something really stupid like donate his entire award to ISIS or something. In which case there would be pitchforks in the streets.

  4. I posted over the weekend about how embarrassed I was about what this country had become under the last fifty years of Liberal rule. I posited that if we continue down the road we are presently on we will no longer be proud of our country, now the PM has assured me by this action that I can no longer be proud of this country. Chretien posted bail for Khadr Senior and now Trudeau has rewarded an illegal combatant for fighting in a foreign war against a Canadian ally. There are no words to describe the embarrassment and shame I harbor for my country and for all Canadians that voted for this prima donna and his entourage in the last election. It is now apparent that I can never have the country that I was so very proud of fifty years ago back again. We as a country have sunk to an abysmal low.

  5. And all the while his family lives on welfare . So diversity is our strength . We sure need a lot more of this .

  6. This is a bridge too far and should be appealed. It is a travesty of justice.

  7. That’s what happens when people get detained without trial and otherwise have their rights abused by governments. If you don’t like it, don’t detain people without fair process or otherwise abuse their rights.

  8. When you are joining the islamic nutters and fighting against canada you have absolutely zero rights in canada.
Except of course, the right to feed maggots at your leisure off of your bullet ridden corpse.

  9. U don’t understand “war”, and the resultant actions caused by war, do you. His parents should have raised him with better morals, and as to Kanada apologizing and paying, it’s about time to start paying those who paid taxes all their life, and are now being fiscally starved by the state.

  10. Well, if a Seal team ever needs a place to bunk while they’re on a missi….woops, I mean vacation in Canada.

  11. How much is that woman with the golf club in the Canadian Tire going to get?

  12. Trudeau is trying really hard to upset normal Canadians. What’s next? Karla Holmolka as Children’s Education minister?

  13. I hope that the people who sued him and got that $134M judgment are able to scoop this. Only surprised that JT didn’t make it $150M so poor Omar could keep something for himself and his lawyer in case they do.

  14. Let’s let Kahdr stay at a northern reservation for a month so he can have some perspective as to abysmal accommodations. Maybe the natives should start murdering people..

  15. “Kill them on the battlefield to avoid any confusion.”
My thoughts as well. Perhaps it’s a lesson now learned. Hopefully it is.

The world has indeed become a strange place were there are no heros (except fantasy comic book heros), no villains, no honor, and no standards of behavior.
Here is my suggestion for bringing back reality to the world. It’s time to bring back dueling and make it legal. That would civilize the blogs, Facebook, and Twitter. 10 paces and a set of dueling pistols. Let’s see if people really believe what they say. I say there is nothing like looking down the barrel of a pistol at 10 paces to snap them out of their fantasies.
What do you think of this idea Unme??

  16. What a sad state of affairs Canada has become. In the USA they incarcerate or execute their terrorists. In Canada we give them a signing bonus

  17. Just another example of turdo la doo using taxpayer dollars to curry favour (votes) in the Muslim population. Won’t be a word of protest from Scheer & Co. either.

  18. US authorities wisely placed conditions of this admitted murderers release to Canada. Any money accruing to him as a result of his story, or other benefits would go to the Speer family. Typically Canada attached no conditions and the inevitable payment became simply a matter of how much.
The Speer and Morris families will be no more successful at collecting any of this gain than they were collecting over $100 M awarded by the Utah civil court.
A larger travesty of justice would be hard to imagine. The timing of the announcement, or leak, is in cynical Liberal tradition, coming in the midst of a longish summer holiday wk-end. No parliament in session, little attention being paid to news stories.
Two Liberal PMs were very content to leave Khadr to rot in GT, Liberals only became sympathetic after they left office.

  19. Did the Prime Minister of Canada just put a bounty on U.S. military personnel?

  20. And what would Trump do ?
We can only wish we had someone at the helm that had the courage to make a positive decision!

  21. @wally: “In the USA they incarcerate or execute their terrorists ”
With the exceptions of terrorists getting off’ed by drone or the special forces(like Bin Laden), what terrorists(s) was/were executed by due process by the courts of law?

  22. Khadr wasn’t an enemy combatant; he was a foreign civilian fighting with the Taliban against a UN sanctioned, NATO led military force. As a Canadian he was opposing the military side Canada was supporting.

  23. Sure he was a minor…but he was a minor who actively participated in the fighting. He wasn’t cowering under a desk, he was actively killing soldiers.

  24. And don’t for a second believe the timing was accidental. This was deliberately leaked for July 4th. Shameful.

  25. So if all this is true , why didn’t we let the courts decide ? Because it isr very likely he would have been awarded squat . The whole family are terrorists hiding under protection of the Canadian flag and living off the taxpayers .In addition in their own words , they hate Canada . We are the laughing stock of every terrorist in the world .

  26. Written in 2013:
Khadr’s entire, twisted saga is not the focus of his $10-million lawsuit. Whether he ultimately gets paid will have little to do with who his father was or whether he actually tossed that grenade. His suit hinges entirely on the conduct of Canadian officials, not his own. In fact, the case will live or die on what happened—and what didn’t happen—during three specific visits Canadian officials made during his first two years in captivity.
    […]
From a strictly legal standpoint, it’s hard to imagine a scenario that doesn’t end with Khadr cashing a cheque.
    Paul Wells Maclean’s
    http://www.macleans.ca/news/canada/omar-khadrs-millions-2/

  27. So you are saying he was mentally ill ? Because I believe all of the people should be controlled for the protection of society and none of them should get 10 million .

  28. Terrorists are not afforded legal protection if found on the battlefield without a uniform. Most of you, I’m sure, are old enough to remember the South Vietnam picture of the officer with the pistol.

  29. It is simply opinion and not a court judgement . The path the Trudeau government has taken is clear and that is the only thing that has assured a monetary award .

  30. To those who insist on trotting out the usual lame legal arguments here:
“‘If the law supposes that,’ said Mr. Bumble, ‘the law is a ass – a idiot.'”
    – from Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens
One is left to contemplate the pay-out of a (minimum) $10 million to Khadr against the total monies paid out to the family of any one of the 159 Canadian soldiers or the Canadian diplomat killed in Afghanistan.

  31. // It is simply opinion and not a court judgement //
    +
    Oh?
    From the article:
// two Supreme Court decisions later, the suit suddenly seems unbeatable. Twice already, the country’s highest court has scolded Ottawa for stomping on Khadr’s constitutional rights. //

  32. I believe there are multi million dollar outstanding judgements against Khadr in the U.S. in regard to Christopher Speer and Layne Morris. And American judgements can be enforced in Canada. Chretien himself should be required to pay the $10 million or whatever ridiculous number the government decides to cough up and then that money should go to satisfy the U.S. judgements.

  33. His dad didn’t put him in that position. Khadr went voluntarily….his brother refused to go. Khadr was not a child soldier. He was not under Canadian legal jurisdiction in Afghanistan. Canadian law stops at our borders…..as much as the left pretends otherwise.

  34. Further to my post late last night and in response to a number of comments here this morning I’d like to remind some of you that the media have filtered the facts of this case. I never did see a picture in the Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail, or the National Post of lil Omar manufacturing IED’s, but there is a video, presented at his trial, of him smiling as he assembled these booby traps. As for the “child soldier” label, well that goes out the window when you are fighting the Taliban since they have used women and children to deliver the booby traps that lil Omar assembled.
While we are on the subject of pictures, here is one from a site called the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan. A word of caution for the squeamish as the pictures are quite graphic. But you might see a very familiar face in the pictures, not quite the image that the Canadian media were presenting in their filtered news presentations.
    http://www.rawa.org/handcut3.htm
This latest gaffe, actually a poke in the eye with a sharp stick to the Canadian taxpayer, by the Trudeau government ranks right up there with the Elizabeth May statement that Omar Khadr has more class than the whole f*cking Harper Cabinet. This latest episode in the Khadr saga has now convinced me that the Canada that Trudeau stated is back is not the Canada that I believe in. We are now an embarrassment to all those who sacrificed all to create this country.

  35. Now,in which Riding will Our Little Omar represent the Liberals in the 2019 election?
Somewhere in the Toronto area would be best.

  36. The inane beat of Bongo’s drum continues, from rewarding criminals and fraudsters to
chastising and ignoring the majority of Canadians.
The two Bongo’s will be known for trying to deconstruct the freedom, equality and security of Canada.

  37. “I never did see a picture in the Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail, or the National Post of lil Omar manufacturing IED’s, but there is a video, presented at his trial, of him smiling as he assembled these booby traps.”
    You’re mistaken…those were islamic clocks.

  38. Geneva Convention takes a dim view of any civilian running around a battle field without a uniform, and Khadr was a Canadian citizen, not a local insurgent. Canadian casualties in the Afghan campaign are 159, and Khadr was fighting on the opposite side. The families of these soldiers have to do with whatever survivors benefits Veterans Affairs doles out, but Khadr gets to pocket $10 M.
The seriousness of charges against him were why 3 PMs and 2 Presidents allowed him to remain in custody and 2 different US courts ruled against him, or at least against his family. As for being a child soldier, a dubious point raised only long after the 2 Liberal PMs were no longer in a position to deal with him.

  39. Check the stock photo that the Star used and draw your own conclusions. It would be interesting to conduct a facial recognition examination of the pictures released by the RAWA organization and the stock photos that the Canadian media were presenting.

  40. I’m reminded of something I saw in the PBS documentary series Vietnam: A Television History when it was broadcast more than 30 years ago.
In one installment, an American Army vet was interviewed and he commented on how the Viet Cong used children. He said that while American children were playing cowboys and Indians back home, Vietnamese children were doing it for real. He also added that an American was just as dead if a Vietnamese child killed him than if someone from the VC or NVA had done it.
Just because Khadr was a minor when the incident happened, the American solider is still dead.

  41. I used Wikipedia to be clear as to the case of Khadr. The laconic entry at the end was to the effect ” the money would be shared between Khadr and his lawyers.
Ah lawyers!. Enjoying his 15 minutes of fame was one EDNEY. Rolling in the lovely bawbees as they were called on old Scotland.

  42. If this isn’t the lowest we’ve come in this country we are really in a sad mess. We have to have tight security in place for all events we used to be able to go to freely, all because of terrorism and we have this Khadr, son of a terrorist, bred/trained for terror…his father took him to fight against our allies in a ME hell hole, he kills an American soldier and we are apologizing and making him a millionaire? The mother of this individual has said she would be proud to have her sons sacrifice themselves for their cause…
Nice gesture to snub Americans on their big day, the 4th of July….timing of this asinine announcement is another slap in the face!
NO, a thousand times NO Trudeau, you are not apologizing for me, I doubt I am alone.
Sad day for Canada. What are we apologizing for? How will this play with President Trump? let’s hope he comes out swinging.
This is not a well written comment, I’m too upset.

  43. Omar Khadr has two brothers, one made a decision not to go to Afghanistan and fight jihad. Omar and his other brother decided to join his father in fighting with Al-Quaida in Afghanistan.
Thus Omar joined of his own free will.
The UN child soldier designation was to cover children in Africa forced to join guerilla forces or be instantly killed. They were forced to kill others, sometimes family members during the initial raid on their village.
That is a completely different situation.
Using this to cover Islamist jihadi terrorists dedicated to world conquest is an affront to reason itself.
Secondly, the lower court decision that Canadian politicians didn’t protest or protest enough about the incarceration of a prisoner of war isn’t a legal decision. It is a political one, which is an attempt to place the court above Parliament and the elected representatives of the citizens.
Khadr was being held in a Prisoner of War camp, which is what Guantanamo is.
The Supreme Court of Canada has no idea there is a global war going on. Why is that?
If the government case did not include basic information about the ideology of orthodox Islam. Then the government’s Crown Prosecutors performed below the standard of care required of their profession.
P.M. Justin Trudeau has signed off on the amount of the cheque. He bears full responsibility for paying an Al-Quaida convicted terrorist compensation for the consequences of his decision to be a terrorist.
The court decision to compensate Omar Khadr financially did not come from the Supreme Court of Canada. The Liberal gov’t. decided not to appeal the original lower court decision.
Had the Liberal government appealed to a higher court, and if losing there. Then appealing to the Supreme Court, would have made the responsibility for such a political decision theirs.
Such a decision by the Supreme Court would have brought the S.C.C. and the justice system, itself into disrepute. One regarded by the Canadian public as an anathema.

  44. As someone here already alluded to, I can’t imagine what the surviving families and friends of those brave Canadian soldiers who perished/suffered in that war must be feeling about this travesty of justice.
I am telling EVERYONE I can about this Canadian ATROCITY!
Justin Trudeau, you are weak, foolish, cowardly and you are most definitely NOT MY PRIME MINISTER!

  45. Larry – spot on. Calling this traitor a child soldier insults actual pressed child soldiers and common sense.
Payback is a bitch, Omar. You can remove the USA from your list of terrorist reconnaissance sites, assuming they’d even let a scumbag like you in.
“A U.S. judge has granted $134.2-million in damages to the widow of an American soldier killed in Afghanistan and another soldier partially blinded by a hand grenade in their lawsuit against former Guantanamo Bay prisoner Omar Khadr.”
In their lawsuit, Tabitha Speer and Layne Morris alleged a teenage Mr. Khadr was responsible for the death of Sergeant Christopher Speer and Mr. Morris’s injuries in Afghanistan in July 2002.”
    https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/us-judge-awards-134-million-in-suit-against-omar-khadr/article25242269/

  46. The Trust of Nations can be undone by Courts… Canada failed to live up to their commitment to keep Khadr in prison to serve out his Term, the payment is just another in your face A-holes
Trump must rethink NAFTA & Visa requirement of an Nation (Canada) that does NOT negotiate honorably, or respect the rule of Law… Why do business with ANY Anti-American nation….
Ban Canadian Lawyers & Judges from entering the USA….Unwelcome
