Back in the days of the more radical Labour Party and the UK was accused of having over 100% tax rate, the mobile rich moved to France. Refresh me – what is 100% of nothing?
Though’s are the ONES that want something for nothing!!! UK on a downward slide hopefully they can find a good leader before they hit the bottom. Canada should learn from the mess in the UK and other EU countries.
Murray Edwards CNRL billionaire moved to London shortly after Red Rachel ENDeePee took over Alberta. Nobody said it was to avoid tax the rich? Ya but.
“Vote for me and I’ll give you some of his” is powerful juju . Especially when you think you should have stuff without working.
Once government provides 50% of all your needs … there’s no going back. The dependents will demand 100% ? The dependents (everyone) will continue to demand more and more and more. So called FREE medical care is the tipping point … once a government provides “free” medical care for all … the equation is LOST. Freedom and Liberty is forever LOST. Then, there will be no more “rich” … they will all FLEE ! Or at least their money will flee like Rock Stars $$$ fled to the Cayman Islands and Netherlands tax havens (see: Bono & U2 et.al.). Free stuff for all … and envy of the rich … always ends badly. It ends with the children of the Marxist Dictator fleeing with $$$ Billions in government receipts. It ends with mass poverty and misery. It starts with the breaking of several of the 10 Commandments (greed, envy, sloth, coveting) … and ends with mountains of skulls. God WARNED us against the most destructive of human emotions … and the penalty of that ignorance is DEATH.
“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.”
Attributed to Alexander Tyler
I couldn’t agree more with Alexander Tyler’s sentiments. When we limit government and check the powers of corrupt statism, we see resulting enhanced prosperity, liberty and harmony. The statist progressive cannot abide us finding prosperity, contentment and joy in self-reliance, because that would only demonstrate their inefficacy, indeed their harm, to society.
But contentment leads to complacency, to apathy, ripe for false narratives of planets overheating and middles classes in crises, while the poor burn.
Since their Marxian unatomized civic society creates no wealth of its own, nor does it do anything but degrade and confiscate wealth through their social engineering transactions of decline, we get statist money laundering & coercion, rather than relatively harmonious private enterprise and innovation.
When progressivism takes such an toll & their fallacies of government directed economic growth cause real pain and suffering, the people temporarily “kick the bums out.” Unless it’s too late, as in Venezuela. Are we next if not there now? We are though to what degree still remains to be determined.
I don’t know people fuss so much about “spending our children’s inheritance” or burdening future taxpayers will our debt.
I have yet to see a mass demonstration of twentysomethings anywhere with signs exclaiming things like STOP GOVERNMENT DEFICIT SPENDING or REDUCE SOCIAL WELFARE COSTS or WE DON’T NEED ANY HAND-OUTS.
I don’t really know why people fuss so much about “spending our children’s inheritance” or “burdening future generations with our debt”.
