The Canada Elections Act also states: “No person who does not reside in Canada shall, during an election period, in any way induce electors to vote or refrain from voting or vote or refrain from voting for a particular candidate” unless the person is a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.
“Yet the outcome of the 2015 election was skewed by money from wealthy foreigners,” alleges the complaint, submitted by Canada Decides, a registered society with three listed directors — including Joan Crockatt, a former Conservative MP for Calgary Centre, who lost her seat to Liberal Kent Hehr, now the MP for the once long-held Tory riding and the Minister of Veterans Affairs. The other two directors include Chad Hallman, a University of Toronto political science student.
The number of third parties registered during the 2015 general election more than doubled, to 114 compared with 55, in the 2011 election.
In total, the 114 third parties spent $6 million and many of those third parties were funded by California-and New York-based Tides Foundation — which is known in Canada for holding numerous anti-Canadian oil campaigns.
In 2015, Tides Foundation donated $1.5 million of U.S. money to Canadian third parties in the election year, according to the report.
Crockatt’s seat was one of the 29 targeted by an organization called Leadnow through its “largest ever campaign” called Vote Together. The complaint by Canada Decides alleges that foreign money “spawned” Leadnow and helped fund an elaborate campaign to oust the ruling Conservative Party.
Mount Royal University political science professor Duane Bratt says Canadians should be concerned about any kind of foreign involvement in our elections.

RE Martin B’s link – I suspect there is far more to it that just using some typical community organizing stunts. Obamas 2012 victory was surprising – much has been written to justify it and demonize Romney, but when it occurred many were surprised that he won as convincingly as he did.
And despite all the shenanigans that took place in our own 2015 election, virtually no one anticipated a Trudeau Majority. The play was to hold the conservatives to a minority and then have the opposition defeat them in a confidence vote, then install themselves into power.
The longshot was a Lib or NDP minority.

Consider how much information Google, Apple, Facebook, Twitter have collectively on every single individual. They know more about what motivates and initiates action of individuals than the targets know themselves. Think about how Facebook just got caught advising advertisers they could target vulnerable teens.

I was telling my CPC MP and other party members for 2 years before the election that there would be serious foreign money spent to ensure Harper was ousted. At that time increased Canadian oil production threatened OPEC and Russia. Harper’s ongoing expansion of trade to countries other than the USA threatened USA dominance of the Canadian economy.
Canadians seem to take some kind of comfort I thinking it is simply wealthy misguided greenies who fund the anti energy lobby in Canada. The naïve over simplification is scary. It should be obvious that Russia and OPEC are not our friends. It should also be obvious that the USA, although friends, do not view Canada other than a source of cheap materials and as a ally. That certainly does not mean they will not take as much advantage as possible.
China, Russia and the USA all fear a financially stronger Canada because it would lead to a more independent foreign policy. It would also lead to a Canada capable of defending her claims to the Artic. This is the real politics. Worrying about deluded rich Americans is a scam and detraction for what is really happening.
All (foreign) monies from the Tides Corporation, Rockefeller Foundation et al should be confiscated upon entering Canada.
