  1. I also remember him from the TV series Ivanhoe. While I was in elementary school during the 1960s, CBC broadcast it during holidays in place of the regular school broadcast.

  2. Not my favorite Bond … to say the least … but came off as a genuinely nice bloke. He will be missed, and his death reminds me that I am getting older too.

  3. Bond. *Sir* James Bond.
not my fave Bond but that car chase scene where the car does a ‘barrel roll’ was AWESOME.
p.s. Daniel Craig is my fave Bond. He actually gets hurt sometimes and bounces back.

  4. Met him in the Oct 92, at Royal Roads Military College, where he and his crew shot parts of a movie.
Genuinely nice guy. Made people feel very comfortable; his tour of Hatley Castle was fun with everyone popping out their offices to check him out.
He handled it all with ease, with many great stories from our brief three day encounter. Photos, stories, in the College Yearbook, the whole nine yards.
My wife even make cookies for him. My favourite story from then was when the Commandant congratulated Sir Roger on his 65th birthday, to which he wryly replied, “now I get to ride the busses for free.” I thought he was a pretty nice guy and so does my wife; a cherished memory, now bittersweet.
    Loved him as The Saint.
May he rest in peace and God bless his family. We’ve lost a fine gentleman.

  5. Sir Roger’s Bond association goes back to before he actually played the role.
In the early 1970s, shortly before he was in Live and Let Die, he starred with Tony Curtis in the TV series The Persuaders!. They played a pair of well-to-do amateur crime-fighters, Moore’s character was a British aristocrat and Curtis’s a self-made American millionaire.
The Bond connection comes from the series theme, composed by John Barry. Barry wrote most of the music for the Bond films between From Russia, With Love and The Living Daylights.

  6. Moore will always be the definitive Bond for me, the one I grew up with. Also never understood why Timothy Dalton as Bond never took; alwas thought he was better than that Remington Steele guy…

  7. Also never understood why Timothy Dalton as Bond never took
The story I heard was that there was a delay in making the next film after Licence to Kill, due to squabbling between Cubby Broccoli and Harry Saltzmann. Dalton decided to quit because he wanted to earn a living rather than twiddle his thumbs until shooting for that next movie began.
Pierce Brosnan was originally meant to be Moore’s successor in the role but he was contracted to NBC as he was in the TV series Remington Steele. Since he couldn’t get out of that obligation, Dalton got the job instead.

  8. My fav James Bond is Sean Connery. That era was big when I watched!
But The Saint was a keeper.
    Rest in Peace…

  9. Connery and Lazenby were before my time, so Moore was the authentic James Bond to me, and his successors didn’t quite measure up just as Moore couldn’t for those who saw Connery in the role first. But I think he did The Saint better than he did Bond.

  10. brett sinclair also drove an aston martin -a dbs, the replacement for the db5&6

  11. The Saint drove a Volvo P1800. I bought a 1968 P1800 in the early 70s because of the show. Twin SU carbs, oversized pistons and a long duration cam had that car doing 135 MPH. Just awesome!

  12. Loved him in The Saint. He was my favourite Bond. Rest in Peace Roger!
