I am beginning to think everyone involved is better off free of the Murdoch spawn. Ailes could likely recreate his success with Fox by starting a new network; if he wanted to. Ditto for O’Reilly if he has anything else he wants to accomplish.
We’ll see if the bleeding of talent continues. If Rachel Maddow ends up in O’Reilly’s spot, everyone will know the shark has been well and truly jumped at Fox.
Those two progressive lucky DNA recipients are going to do a splendid job of turning Fox News into just another CNN or MSNBC. Like we need more of that shit. That’s what could go wrong.
In the long run I suspect that Fox will become more like CNN and thus will lose all relevance to the average American. The fact is that liberal network news is on the skids and the Murdoch heirs are applying the grease to Fox to make it catch up to the other losers. If I were so inclined I could catch O’Reilly on the net with his new podcast and unless he does a Beck he will likely have a loyal following. In the mean time the Jr. Murdochs who seem to abhor cheekiness in all its forms will likely ride their father’s empire to the ground since his empire was built largely on cheekiness.

That is also my greatest fear. The progressive left got rid of SunNews TV, the only center-right media here in Canada, and while it is too soon to tell it is starting to look like FoxNews is also on the way out.
This is scary. Without a dissenting voice in the media, the next election will be handed back to the Dems. Fox news gave people the facts to back up their uneasiness regarding the MSM narrative. With no Fox news, America is going down the toilet.
The US only dodged the bullet by one election. With no Fox news, the next election WILL be lost, and so will the country.

The right side news is split into a half dozen niche broadcasters, internet sites, and conservative organization public advocacy. Imagine being able to create a 24 hour news organization from the ground up. You can make billions.

I hope you people are right about the MSM not being much of a factor next election. But even tho you and I may get our news from the net, the last vote in Canada (and Alberta) points to us being the exception, not the rule.
In Canada, we just had one of the best PMs in a long time ousted by arguably the worst ever. And I firmly believe that the “credit” goes to CBC, CTV, and to a lesser extent Global. They framed the narrative, and set the tone where “everybody knew” that Harper was a bully and control freak, and Trudeau stood for change.
That’s what happened here, in the absence of a conservative media voice. The blogosphere did not win the election here, and I doubt it would win in the states. Time will tell.
The promise to legalize pot was a huge factor as well.
