A Detroit-area physician and his wife have been arrested and charged with conspiring to perform female genital mutilation procedures on girls as young as six, the Justice Department announced on Friday.
Dr. Fakhruddin Attar and his wife, Farida Attar, conspired with another doctor, Jumana Nagarwala, to perform the illegal procedures at Attar’s clinic in Livonia, the Justice Department said.
Nagarawala, who worked as an emergency room doctor in Detroit, was charged earlier this week in the case.
“According to the complaint, some of the minor victims traveled interstate to have the procedure performed. The complaint alleges that the FGM procedure was performed on girls who were approximately six to eight years old,” the Justice Department says.

I once arrived in Ottawa Airport from overseas with my wee dog in a small shipping kennel. No taxi driver would take me and my dog downtown (I leave you to guess why). I ended up renting a car.
Since then, I refuse to hire a cab if I know the driver is of a certain religious persuasion. Two can play that game.
* Sikh drivers are obviously easy to spot. Lebanese Maronite Catholic or Syrian Orthodox drivers always have some Christian item hanging on the rear-view mirror: a rosary, an icon of a saint or similar.

Posthitis and balanitis (inflammation of the glans penis) usually occur together as balanoposthitis. Circumcision prevents balanoposthitis though balanitis can still occur separately.

Balanitis largely occurs in uncircumcised males. Balanitis is swelling of the foreskin, or head of the penis. Balanitis affects roughly 1 in 20 males.
Colonialista is correct in both comments. It’s also likely that more gentiles have been circumcised than Jews. Balanoposthitis was a widespread affliction before circumcision became a common practice. I suspect that FGM is part of the whole muslime preoccupation with misogyny and oppressively subjugating women. The punishment for FGM should be castration.

The removal of the foreskin has some practical historic significance, even outside of Judaism; Lawrence of Arabia noted that his circumcised warriors were slightly less uncomfortable during sandstorms. There must be some puratinistic reason why a mother will be less likely to instruct her son to wash behind his foreskin as opposed to washing behind his ears. There is also the issue that a boy might want his genitals to look like daddy’s. Personally, I suspect a component to my/our decision to have my son trimmed was to maybe provide a hindbrain reflex as to how much angst that particular piece of anatomy might cause in the future if not carefully controlled. In opposition to the FGM procedure, it robs a woman of her ability to experience full sexual pleasure, while male trimming possibly improves it (by uncovering sensitive areas, while removing tissue that is not sensitive to temperature}.

No one is “downplaying” FGM. FGM is genital mutilation of a female child and should be criminalized. Circumcision is genital mutilation of a male child. Both customs derive from the same groups of people. And FGM does not affect the libido, rather it dampens the pleasure.
