No one tell Greenpeace.

That beer, wine and spirits create a very large amount of carbon dioxide. Regarding the charts at the link, recognize that a beer wort aiming for 5% ABV will usually start at about 1.060 specific gravity or about 15 degrees Balling. Wine will start around 1.10 specific gravity depending on the must.
That means that in 2015, Canadians produced approximately 116,402.116 kg of CO2 from beer alone.

  1. So, 116 tons of CO2, yearly, for the entire national lot of drunks*?
That’s rounding error, overall, ain’t it?
(* I kid. Also most of my Canadian friends are beer-swilling drunks.)

  2. As a homebrewer who makes some darned good beer, I joyously produce lots of CO2!

  3. No ONE will EVER tell me that MY BEER … is a “pollutant”. Even if I use to get completely polluted, myself.
The EPA can go to hell ! My beer is NOT a pollutant.

  4. “That means that in 2015, Canadians produced approximately 116,402.116 kg of CO2 from beer alone.”
That’s nice. There’s about 51,000,000,000,000 kg of CO2 locked up the tar sands alone. .

  5. So, what are you trying to do, Barbara? Wake up the creepy idiot NME000 so he can spout more conspiracy theories?

  6. Now it begins to make sense. Alberta NDP finance minister has been spending a lot of his time announcing all the great jobs craft breweries are creating in Alberta. Haven;t seen him at any function supporting oil and gas or manufacturing.

  7. I sincerely doubt Jesus died in the 13th c., which is when the shroud was fabricated.

  8. Sodastream! Pick up my CO2 refill every 4 weeks at Canadian Tire.
    I do my bit. Belch.

  9. “This is 62.2 g of CO2 per liter of beer.” from http://www.triplepundit.com/2007/06/askpablo-co2-from-beer/
“2015 has consumption of 2.2 billion liters.” from https://industry.beercanada.com/statistics
    or 136,840 tonnes.
Not including any additional CO2 from preparing the ingredients, powering the breweries, and shipping said product.
Which in the grand scheme of things, no one should care about.
I wonder if all the gas separation plants get free carbon credits when they process CO2 for industrial and commercial uses?

    what is your point?
that we should leave that tar there, we should stop using oil, gasoline, plastic and the thousands of things we use everyday made from it?
    or
that we should drink tar and make cars that run on beer?

  11. “what is your point?”
That arguments along the lines of “Activity X produces Y amount of CO2, therefore there’s nothing wrong with the tar sands” are silly.
You know, not everything has to be one or the other. One can accept that oil yields many benefits to humanity while also recognizing that it has produced many problems. and that, as a nonrenewable resource, we’ll have to find alternatives sooner or later.

  12. …while also recognizing that it has produced many problems
Pray tell me what bad things has CO2 done, apart from inflating Al Gore.
    It`s benefit all the way.

  13. The rising of bread also creates CO2. Shutting down bakeries, or forcing people to consume only unleavened bread, has been suggested by the looney left.

  14. I dream of millions of Progressive Liberals filling the streets protesting China & India’s use of coal and oil.

  15. … so that’s the reason why I have to pay over a dollar as tax on my diesel… so that the coming extra CO2 from beer consumption at the highway stops will be paid for. Or will there be a new tax on this then?
I’m confused. Electric, CO2 neutral cars transport people to the highway stops where they can drink beer, so that more CO2 will be produced? So. Is this about who gets to expel how much CO2?
