Turtle Swamp

The State Department said on Monday it was ending U.S. funding for the United Nations Population Fund, the international body’s agency focused on family planning as well as maternal and child health in more than 150 countries.
In a letter to U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker, the State Department said it was dropping the funding because the U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA) “supports, or participates in the management of, a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization.”
The cut marks U.S. President Donald Trump’s first move to curtail funding for the United Nations and is likely to raise further questions about how deep those cuts will eventually go throughout the organization, where the United States is the top donor.

  1. One can only Hope the quiet bureaucracy which keeps the United Nations moving when the Corrupted Representatives of Many Countries; Western Developed countries in the front rank are not evident, things will Improve?
Possibly these folks will be able to “use POTUS # 45” as their backing to correct “things-somewhat”. Just as the REAL New York City Cops appear to be doing.

  2. Oh look, I’m starting to observe a bit of that happening over there in the States.
An elected representative of the people doing what he promised his voters.
I’m not tired of seeing it, not by a long way and another 3+ years to go. Happy days.

  3. Break the old, in with the new. It’ll be the same as the old, only more so…when he pulls out of all those foreign entanglements, I might believe him. Virtue signaling without the virtue…

  4. Who are you, the homosexual protector? Or you just take it personal? 🙂

  6. The Government of Canada must not spend a dime of taxpayer money helping people overseas. If a private citizen wants to aid foreigners let him do so out of his own pocket.

  7. President Trump should show the generosity of the American people by redirecting some of the money to be saved to more positive aid.
Just as Prime Minister Trudeau has generously offered to redirect the money of Canadian taxpayers to support the promotion of abortion in the developing world to make up for the loss of American funding, so perhaps President Trump should recognize and support the maternal health initiative begun by Prime Minister Harper.

  8. Awesome! Woo Hoo!
    God Bless America.
Notice the words COERCED abortion and FORCED sterilization.
Has Shiny Pony really spoken about filling the gap with $$ from our already bankrupt government? (fiscally and morally) Or is that just a joke? Hard to tell sometimes.

  9. Rizwan and Knight, nice to see more people climbing on this bandwagon. Here is something for both of you to consider. Pakistan has a shoreline of about 12,000 kilometers, and has a navy of approximately 30 ships, Canada has a shoreline of approximately 200,000 km., and has a navy of approximately 30 ships. Canada has given Pakistan approximately, on average, 100 million dollars a year over the last ten years in foreign aid.

These are the little known facts about where our tax dollars are wasted, and I’m glad to see that more and more people are becoming aware.

  10. Antenor >
Thanks, but I’ve been on this wagon for over 30 years, started with the Ethiopian drought in the mid 80’s.
The same goes for domestic abortion, if the Liberals want them they should pay for them. Maybe open a private charity “Liberals adopting inner city crack-heads to buy them an abortion”

  11. ……and not just Pakistan,
Canada also gives “humanitarian aid” to India and China – both of which have more billionaires than Canada does, large nuclear capable armies & navy’s, and Space Programs.
China is the second largest economy in the world, while our Federal, Provincial & municipal governments complain about Canadian homelessness and lack of money for every civil service under the sun.
I guess they hate our poor starving aboriginals who never seem to have enough taxpayer money as well.

  12. Flashback:
Ethiopia had been a Marxist state since the overthrow of Emperor Haile Selassie in September 1974. The West feared it would bear the cost of drought aid while the military government of Mengistu Haile Mariam spent money buying weapons and cementing a Marxist-Leninist regime……
Another problem concerned the delivery of aid supplies across the country. Later Ethiopia would send in military aircraft, but by September, no army vehicles had been deployed. And there were reports that EEC food was being diverted from civilian famine victims to feed troops.

  13. Knight 99, nice to see you have been on this boondoggle almost as long as I have. I got hooked back in the Sixties doing a project in High School when we were taught how to think critically and how to present a qualified argument. Nowadays that doesn’t happen in the Canadian school system, too many safe spaces to run to.

  14. Aid to Africa has been a scam from the beginning. Any money goes to the warlord leaders to buy munitions and any food aid goes to feed their troops or sold to other warlord leaders for money to buy munitions. The so called ‘aid’ organizations are either complicit or have been repeatedly duped.

  15. over 50 billion has been flushed in Africa and Africa is still full of primitive tribal people. I no longer care.

  16. shucks. bloodletting wuz a real popular remedy back in the old days.
mebbe it will work this time, or mebbe it will kill the patient . . . .

  17. The UN claims the world faces the largest humanitarian crisis since 1945 with 25 million people in Africa facing starvation and famine.
    World Birth and Death Rates
    • 131.4 million births per year • 55.3 million people die each year
If 25 million more than usual might die in some parts of Africa because they can’t feed themselves, they will be replaced in 4 months by the ever growing global population.

  18. Funny thing about the ‘crisis’ in Africa. Famines and droughts have been happening since the beginning of time. It could be Mother Nature’s way of controlling the world’s population. Females in times of great lasting physical stress will cease to menstruate, thus in times of famine or drought there are less mouths to feed. (I could divert here and run another path on migration and invasion themes but I won’t for obvious reasons.) Now along comes the Twentieth Century and the ability of the Judea-Christian society to first of all hear of these ‘crises’, telegraph, radio, etc., and then to re-act to bring aid to the distant locations, steam powered and then diesel powered ships and later planes, all done in a timely fashion, so to speak. So we have in the last hundred years or so saved millions of people in Africa who in centuries past would not have been born. (Pat yourselves on the back people!) The end result now in the Twenty-first century is that there are millions more people, perhaps a billion that are living in areas that can’t sustain them naturally, so now we have a problem. Western societies that have been able to produce and send the aid to these ‘crisis’ areas have in the last hundred years reduced their own birth rates to less than replacement numbers, and the ‘crisis’ area birth rates have increased well beyond their replacement and sustainability numbers, so where are all these people going to go? No prize for the correct answer, and as Historybuff alludes to it very well may kill the patient.

  19. also, as I learned and realized the full significance during a poli sci course @ McMaster U in Hamilton a.k.a. Steeltown, that foreign aid tends to DEMOLISH the local entrepreneurial spirit. can’t compete wit’ all dat free stuff eh? thus creating a prolonged systemic dependence on said foreign aid.
a past lieberal MP refused for TWO YEARS to answer a simple Q regarding whut is being done to follow up, audit, measure, or in some way gauge the effectiveness of Cdn foreign aid to Awfricah. 2 years silence. except a huge pile of current programs which I DIDNT ask for.
the last time I pd a visit to the prickazoid’s constituency orifice, his staff changed tactics and denied they had any record of the Q. upon which I sighed and started writing them all out to resubmit and was promptly threatened with ‘trespassing’ charges.
he is no longer an MP.
the Q did get answered in an editorial pc in the local printed media. the lieberals of the day HAD NO auditing function in place, just a bunch of post-dated blank cheques or something. this was before the harper circus act showed up.

  20. It’s the damned 1st world do-gooders who have caused the most problems in Africa with their meddling. If left to it’s own, Africa would find a stable population balance that it’s resources and people can sustain. Humans are not an endangered species, we don’t need to ‘save’ the unproductive ones.
