  1. Why bother shutting down FM? Just require all new radios to receive AM, FM, and digital. When they broadcasters are ready, let them decide. Oops, it’s Denmark where the Marxists learned administration bouncing on Nazi knees

Part of it is cost. Why build receivers for a signal mode that will soon be obsolete or unusable in a given market?
When they broadcasters are ready, let them decide.
That’s one reason why AM stereo never caught on. When it was first tried, there were, I recall, 4 ways of receiving the signals. The Reagan administration said “Let the market decide”, but no manufacturer was willing to commit to a particular method without having some sort of guidance as to which one to select.
The broadcasters themselves were in an identical quandary. They didn’t know how to modify their equipment because they had little idea of which type of AM stereo receiver their listeners would be using. Some, of course, took a chance, though I don’t recall hearing anything about how it affected their audiences.
Since the government didn’t take the lead and there were few receivers on the market because nobody knew which ones to build plus broadcasters reluctant to get involved, AM stereo soon faded as a means of broadcasting and is now an historical artifact.

  3. Don’t see it happening here. Private enterprise has to justify the cost of transition, AND, the huge loss of the listening audience.
With the advent of Iphones and personal music devices, in cars, and homes, people would skip out of FM.
I wouldn’t, rather than spend up to $400 on a new system for the ol F350, so I can listen to mindless drivel and bad set lists when I drive.
remember, Norway is one of those awesome, perfect socialist Nordic countries, used as an awesome example of socialism by our libtard friends.

  4. Digital is … convenient. Not “better” … just convenient. Governments picking winners and losers is a slippery slope. It produces pure EVIL … like carbon taxes. Like Solyndra FAILURES. Like taxpayer subsidies for 1%-ers to purchase Tesla Eco-jewelry.

  5. Lance, this is completely off topic but,,,Just wondering if you have any dirt or “inside word” on what happened to CJME’s “Mainstreet”? No mention about what has happened to Jill and Dave on the radio, nothing on the CJME website, can’t see anything on facebook, what gives? Were they fired? What gives?

  6. Don’t Norwegians listen to anything other than Norwegian radio?
Maybe all they want is cbc style public radio.
Looks like a prescription for failure.
