  6. Only in Canada. CBC was broadcasting the New Year’s celebration on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. They were live on Youtube as well.
    Had my watch set to the second from National Research Council’s web clock. CBC’s countdown was over 20 seconds off!! Double checked my watch on USA Fort Collins, Colorado. It’s right on!!
    What else is new??
    Interesting to note that back in the 60’s, my Dad and I always watched Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians live from the Waldorf Astoria in NY, NY on CBC TV. Dad would set his watch to to the second from Fort Collins, Colorado on shortwave radio. The broadcast was always within a second.

    That was a tradition with my parents and me as well. New Year’s Eve hasn’t been the same ever since they stopped doing those broadcasts.
    Last New Year’s Eve, Encore Avenue showed the movie Back to the Future. A few weeks ago, I got the complete DVD set of the BTTF flicks, so I decided to start a new December 31 tradition. I’m watching it right now.

  17. What kind of country will Canada be in 2017?
    Carbon taxes, both provincially in many areas and a rumoured federal one will add pain to all; less jobs, less disposable income and more fees. Ontario is doomed. So is Quebec. The Maritimes are perpetually mired by chronic underemployment and high HST.
    Not much better for BC or Alberta. Seems to me that Saskatchewan is the place to be.
    For now Trudeau, Wynne and Notley were elected by stupid Canadians. Let them enjoy the rewards.
    Modern liberalism is bad for Canadians.

    Maybe if Canadians in some parts of Canada suffer enough under increased costs of living due to the fraud of carbon taxes they might wake up to the mafia that liberals have become. Although in Ontario it appears that Brown is not much of a better choice.
    We also used to bring in the new year with Guy Lombardo. For many years now we have brought in the new year with the Fox News Times Square celebration.

  24. It would be great to see l’il spud not being invited to the inauguration. “I’m not loved, I don’t get to have a selfie with Trump”, it would certainly give or future wamma be king that he’ll not have a friend to the south.
    On the other hand if he was invited he’d have a tough decicision to make, go and be able to brag about being invited but anger Soros, the UN elite, all the radical left groups including the Obama/Clinton crowd. Tough call.

We have lost economically and are losing our country bit by bit (as the first “post national” state!)     Two days ago, I mentioned to someone that in less than 3 weeks time, class will return to the White House. She looked back at me in horror and was aghast at that thought. In her mind, the world will come to an end when Trump is inaugurated.
    I asked her if she would rather have a crook as the American president and her response was anybody but Trump. Presumably, that would mean anyone from the Creature from the Black Lagoon to Ming the Merciless from the Flash Gordon comics and movies.
    Some people refuse to accept facts and prefer that their idealized dream world represents how things should be. Anything contrary to that must be denied and never be acknowledged.
    Others, like many people I know, simply don’t care. “I don’t concern myself with politics” is often their answer. “What can you do about it?” is often a follow-up comment.
    The deniers and “me-first” types won’t do anything to change things, even if the politicians inflict great misery upon them. The deniers simply filter it out, so it won’t enter their consciousness. The me-firsters have given up.

And to think that he replaced the man who was, without a doubt, the best prime minister that we have ever had in our short history makes the whole stinking mess even more unpalatable.   35. My favorite scene is where the Delorean uses the 1.21 gigawatts of power from the bolt of lighting to head back to the future. While we’re on the topic of clocks and/or watches being set to the second, I doubt that ”Doc” could have used the mechanical clock in the tower to calculate the time to the exact second that the lightning struck!! I remember a similar clock tower at the CPR station in Moose Jaw, Sk. It was always about 5 minutes off.
