Climate Disruption: “We Were Promised There Would Be No Math”

The Trump transition team has issued a list of 74 questions for the Energy Department

The questionnaire requests a list of those individuals who have taken part in international climate talks over the past five years and “which programs within DOE are essential to meeting the goals of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan.”
[…] The document spanned a broad area of Energy Department activities, including its loan program, its technology research program, responses to Congress, estimates of offshore wind and cleanup of uranium at a site once used by the military for weapons research.
One question zeroed in on the issue of the “social cost of carbon,” a way of calculating the consequences of greenhouse gas emissions. The transition team asked for a list of department employees or contractors who attended interagency meetings, the dates of the meetings, and e-mails and other materials associated with them.
Another question appeared to delve deeply into the mechanisms behind scientific tools called “integrated assessment models,” which scientists use to forecast future changes to the climate and energy system. It also asked what the Energy Department considers to be “the proper equilibrium climate sensitivity,” which is a way researchers calculate how much the planet will eventually warm, depending upon the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere.
“My guess is that they’re trying to undermine the credibility of the science that DOE has produced, particularly in the field of climate science,” said Rob Jackson, a Stanford climate and energy researcher.

With physics.

  1. “My guess is that they’re trying to undermine the credibility of the science that DOE has produced” Rob Jackson
Or it may just be an evidence File suggesting treason, remember Gore got an exception to the sharing of technology

  2. The commie rats tell us anthropogenic global warming is settled science, so why do we need an army of climate scientists studying it? Get the cleavers out and start swingiing them. The Australian government fired three hundred climate scientist a while back for the same reason.

  3. The global warming fantasy is on it’s way out the door. Hopefully in time to stop all the extra carbon taxation needed to fund all Gore/Suzuki purveyors of ‘certain annihilation by warm climate’ and expensive wine farts.
    .

  4. I cannot adequately describe how deliously happy this makes me. Trump is going to select the “true believers” (not scientists) for special treatment. Trump will put all these Federal employees in a rubber room of inactivity. Better to give them a paycheck for doing nothing, than pay them to RUIN our energy economy. This is EXACTLY the kind of swamp-draining that is so desperately needed. Our government has been destroyed from within by these Global Warmist termites. The Global Warmist apparatchiks are going on a long holiday. Vive Trump !! Brilliant, mate !!!

  5. What they are going to find is results oriented research and nothing more. We are pretty sure the parameters were set and the data selected to produce only one result. All the government scientists will be proven frauds. Will they have to pay back their wages?

  6. Well, not quite, we in Canada will have to pay penance unitl at least the next election. Maybe if SPUD pi$$es off enough people, by significantly lightening their wallets, they will realize he’s the devious idiot that the rest of us know him to be.
That’s wishing for a lot, with all the soft-headed “lower than average” voters out there.

  7. Hit em where it hurts Spud and you’ll be gone in 2019 along with Wynne, Notley and Clark.

  8. Am I the only one who is just flabbergasted to witness a DOER obtain a high political office?
Watching Trump lay out concrete plans to attack serious problems head on while his last 1/2 dozen or so predecessors either created them or just paid lip service to them is….. well, sh*t….. for a rare moment for me, I can’t even find the words. On the heels of Brexit, the Trump phenomenon may ultimately be responsible for saving Democracy worldwide.
If you are still a NEVERTRUMPER, you were never a Conservative to begin with.

yeah… i’m shocked… what exactly did anyone expect from a handpicked protege of the
    “cook county machine?”
“We have a sick political culture, and that’s the environment Barack Obama came from,”
Jay Stewart, the executive director of the Chicago Better Government Association,
warned ABC News when Obama ran in 2008.

  10. “Or should they dissect and fact-check every one?” CAS
We live in an Universe ruled by Symmetry.. The word fact-check is a meaningless Media invention meaning only their opinion is true.. NOT

  11. Requesting more info from the scienticians, is akin to our teachers in high school or post-sec saying:
“That’s your answer, is it Sparky? Okay, fine, show me your work and calculations to prove your conclusions!”
There is no work to show for the leftwing political positions of the scienticians, who have been running along with “TRUST US” as their motto.

  12. “Sen. Edward Markey, D-Mass., said punishing civil servants for their work under previous administrations “would be tantamount to an illegal modern-day political witch hunt and would have a profoundly chilling impact on our dedicated federal workforce.””
Is that kinda like when a scientist/researcher that questions AGW finds themselves removed from boards, publications, lose their research money and see their personal lives discredited, threatened and their careers tank?
Is that what you are afraid of Mr. Senator? That your people might be treated the way you have treated those who disagree with you?

  13. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! . . . snort . . . BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! . . . stop . . . I can’t . . . BWAAHAHAHAHAHA!!! . . . breathe

  14. Exactly. Science and research are based on evidence which should be verified whenever possible, and the more of it, the better.
The lefties have chosen a very small data set, namely the period of history during which accurate meteorological measurements have been taken. (Anything before that is either historical anecdote or measurements of physical evidence for which contextual data is scarce–e. g., tree rings.)
They then extrapolate and project from it, presenting those results as solid certain fact. Any researcher paying attention to this method could find any number of arguments against them.
The left is simply practicing poor science.

  15. Hate to burst your dream Anonymous Coward, however the only one who will be gone is Nutley, and maybe before the next election. The LIV’s who put Spud Head,Whiner, and Grinning Clark in will not wake up until they are personally bankrupted, and maybe not even then. We need a revolution.

  16. This is simply the best bit of news one could hope for on a Sat Morning…
I read the whole thing from Willis…and yea, I bet this is setting a lot of toupe’s on fire..!!
    FABULOUS..!! & LONG Fricking Overdue..!
Now if this is any indication, then I would expect EVERY Govt Agency to undergo this process.
    Talk about Draining the SWAMP..!!!
…that we could do such a thing in Canada……..?

  17. Let me fix that for you: “The left is simply practicing POLITICAL science”.
Access to energy is the ultimate control over industrial societies. CAGW mass hysteria has replaced Christianity in the West, at least for the progressive elites. Every aspect of the institutional left has been infested with it. Rather than attempting to reform a federal agency which will continue to exist beyond the incoming administration it would easier and safer to eliminate all but the most essential components and move those into another body (eg, nuclear regulation only). I would rather see unemployed whore-“scientists” than seditious partisans infesting bureaucracies.

  18. It sounds like Donald Trump and his advisors want to trim the DOE back to its original missions, and make sure the original missions are actually performed competently.
I can only hope and pray that they are doing the same with every other federal bureaucracy!
Maybe this will be Donald Trump’s Showpiece? The first of many pared back and revised bureaucracies?
Trump understands that ENERGY is one of the most important inputs needed for a healthy economy. Enerdy needs to be plentiful, reliable, and inexpensive. Everything that the US, Canada, and the EU are doing are the exact opposite. Higher costs, less reliabilty, and limited.
How much has your electric bill increased in the last ten years?
Hasn’t the cheaper gasoline and diesel fuel been a God send for all of us?
Does anyone want a Carbon Tax? (Besides Bureaucrats?)

  19. Measuring the effectiveness of programms in these agencies is going to require discussion with department heads at all levels. It has to happen eventually. Gathering names so that the new management can develop an organization chart is wise and efficient. Im not sure I see where a witch hunt is in the cards. On the other hand, the level of fear that is showing suggests that quite a few of the people quaking in their boots have a deep notion that they will be unable to justify their positions on the merits.
    Paul Thomas

  20. My God.
    The nerve of Trump.
Actually expecting “civil servants” to answer to the taxpayer.
This is the mark of a Tyrant.
To ask Of government employees,;” Where did you spend the money?
    And under what permission?”
Why that is unheard of..In a Kleptocracy.
I am beginning to believe Trump and Co will exceed their election promises.
This too is unheard of in modern socialist paradises.
The screaming from the entrenched parasites is music to my ears.
If only canadian politicians had the spine to ask these same questions of Environment Canada and CSA.. to just begin with.
The idea that the politicians all belong to the same party, gets reinforced by the contempt in which the “civil servants” hold both them and us dumb taxpayers.
No candidate from the Uni-Party would dare to ask what Trump demands.
We need more businessmen to take office.
Drain the swamp and burn the deadwood for fuel.

  21. If the government departments have nothing to hide then they have nothing to fear. For example: If the data has not been adjusted and manipulated, if there was no collusion with enviro activists, if skeptical scientists were not unfairly targeted, grants and subsidies not decided by crony capitalism, etc.
Heh. I think it’s slowly dawning on CAGW alarmists that the jig is up. People coming in from the Heritage Foundation and AEI, and other victims of CAGW witch hunts, will be going over data, emails and reports with a fine tooth comb. I wonder if there’s solar powered paper shredders or will they recruit Hillary’s email handlers. For skeptics and lukewarmers it’ could be like opening up a locked treasure trove of secrets. Imagine how much could be revealed.

  22. The EPA had no legislated authority to regulate greenhouse gasses. What they did was regulate under the Clean Air Act by labeling CO2 as a substance harmful to humans. Unfortunately the courts agreed despite Congress specifically denying authority to regulate “greenhouse gasses” by defeating legislation. Trump might have questions concerning the EPA going rogue.

  23. If you are still a NEVERTRUMPER, you were never a Conservative to begin with.
So true. Heads are going to spin. PS … thank you Harry Reid ! For ditching all decorum, rules, procedures, agreements, and civilized discourse in the Senate … cause you are about to PAY PAY PAY for every single one of your indulgences. PAY for every midnight vote. PAYback is gonna be UUuugee ! Like you’ve never ever ever even imagined the pantywaist “conservatives” would be capable of. The PEOPLE finally have a voice. And I can finally sing Dylan’s verse … from MY perspective
    “Come (Democrat) senators, congressmen
    Please heed the call
    Don’t stand in the doorway
    Don’t block up the hall
    For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
    There’s a battle outside ragin’.
    It’ll soon shake your windows
    And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin’.”

  24. If Stompin’ Tom were alive today, do you think he might look at Liberal Ottawa as “the big red mud”? Then maybe the first line to his famous song would read:
Dud the Spud from the big red mud
    Rollin’ down the Highway smiling-
I’ll leave it to those of you with more talent to add more lines. 🙂

  25. If Stompin’ Tom were alive today, do you think he might look at Liberal Ottawa as “the big red mud”? Then maybe the first line to his famous song would read:

    Rollin’ down the Highway smiling-
I’ll leave it to those of you with more talent to add more lines. 🙂

  26. “My guess is that they’re trying to undermine the credibility of the science that DOE has produced” That’s going to be tough. There was never any science produced in the first place.

  27. If Stompin’ Tom were alive today, do you think he might look at Liberal Ottawa as “the big red mud”? Then maybe the first line to his famous song would read:
Dud the Spud from the big red mud

  28. Geez! I hate getting lyrics wrong! Here I was, thinkin’ all along:
    It’s dud the spud
    Pullin his pudd
    Posin’ for selfies n smilin’
’cause the back of his rig
    Is full of pigs
    From Newf to Vancouver Island.

  29. You said:

Let me fix that for you: “The left is simply practicing POLITICAL science”.

In addition, it is not “settled science”, it is “SELECTED POLITICAL science”.

  30. New AGW Crusade battle cry: “Life’s a Bleach Bit! See ya later suckers…”
Trump’s battling a seven headed Hydra with this communist Earth Firster AGW religion. A Hydra can eventually be beaten but it will take many many blows to weaken and then finally vanquish. There will be traps set and pitfalls hidden everywhere. But unless pursued until absolute victory is achieved it will come back and after learning from its’ mistakes be impossible to get rid of for generations.

  31. “Sen. Edward Markey, D-Mass., said punishing civil servants for their work under previous administrations “would be tantamount to an illegal modern-day political witch hunt and would have a profoundly chilling impact on our dedicated federal workforce.””
It is only alright if the left does it. Their truth is the only truth, didn’t you know.
Too bad our swamp in Canada is really going to putrefy during at least the next three years and if the media gets its way, also for the next four years.

  32. “My guess …” says a Stanford climate and energy researcher.
Yes, that is what you’re paid for. Guessing. Like picking lottery numbers. Next, he should be asked about his feelings.
What would we do without researchers?

  33. Jolly good news indeed. These guys have rum rampant with junk numbers and junk science for too long. The whole thing smells like a pit toilet. Drain the swamp!

  34. Drain the swamp can quickly begin in California
The US Ninth Circuit MUST be broken Up , Trump MUST insist that the Senate move on Bill 253 in the first 100 days… The California Control of so many States through the Ninth Circuit is Corrupt.
1 The Ninth Circuit attempted to interfere in the Arizona election by over ruling the Arizona ban on illegal VOTE gathering by activist California groups., The SCOUS over ruled the Ninth Circuit.
    2. The Ninth circuit Federal Judge announced that Sherriff Joe would be held in contempt of HIS Court Orders, just before the Election (illegal Aliens).. Joe lost the Election
“Hruska Commission recommended that the Ninth Circuit be divided into two circuits: a new Ninth Circuit consisting of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Hawaii, Guam, and the Eastern and Northern Districts of California; and a new Twelfth Circuit consisting of Arizona, Nevada, and the Southern and Central Districts of California.34 California quickly and vehemently opposed this recommendation.35”
The breakup must separate Arizona from California’s control of the border issues and the EPA
Senate BILL 253 has waited long enough
