Heh.

The Libranos.
Robyn Urback: A Liberal expense scandal is just like warm milk: familiar, nostalgic and a little bit disgusting. Less than one year into their mandate under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Liberals have offered Canadians more than a few melancholy reminders of what it was, exactly, that earned Stephen Harper the near-decade in power the Liberals are now keen to cast off as an aberration.

But many voters would conclude that moving expenses should include the costs of having a team of strong people show up at the house, carry its contents into a moving van, haul it all to the new digs, and unload it there. Many of us wouldn’t expect moving expenses to include real estate fees, deed transfer fees and “personal cash payouts”.

15 Replies to “Heh.”

  1. “And why did you claim all those fees as part of your moving expenses?”
“I had to move. Why should I have to suffer for it?”

  2. “As for Mr. Butts and Ms. Telford, we only ask that they cast a cold eye on their own bad judgment in this affair. They are, after all, supposed to bring good judgment to bear in the advice they provide to Canada’s prime minister.”
    I can’t stop laughing.
Is it a requirement of employment in the MSM that one has to have terminal naivety?

  3. Systemic corruption is just the way they roll…
The MSM know they are just trotting out propaganda, but of course they are going to try.

  4. “Many of us wouldn’t expect moving expenses to include real estate fees, deed transfer fees and “personal cash payouts”.”
But then the vast majority of us have no experience gorging at the public trough.

  5. Even more to the point, moving expenses should only be paid when your employer moves your job to another city! Both of these individuals made the choice to leave their jobs in Toronto and take the job in Ottawa – no one should have paid for any of their moving expenses.
I thought progressive were really big on choice!

  6. Why should politicians get reimbursed for land transfer taxes? They implemented them. They should be happy to pay them.
Also, if you move more than 40 km for a new job you get to deduct moving expenses on your tax returns. If these deductions aren’t good enough for our politicians how can they be good enough for us?

  7. To be fair some jobs do offer relocation expenses as part of the hiring package. But 200k worth? I think more than anything this proves what an amateur operation little potato is running. A well run PMO would not have allowed this to happen. All we need now is a freaking leader out there everyday hammering these fools.

  8. In the case of the Butts household, our expenses were:
    Moving logistics: $14,636.39
Real Estate Commission, fees and employer taxes: $47,103.56
Personalized cash payout and incidentals: $20,799.10
Land transfer tax, legal fees and insurance: $25,141.31
Temporary rental lodging (apartment) : $18,247.60
    Administration fees: $468.60
    Travel: $273.00

  9. These are poltical operatives, nothing more, including Seymour Butts.
The LIEberal Party needs to be paying EVERYTHING. Fat Chance of that!

  10. Dan, I have been saying for years that taxpayers should not be on the hook for politician’s salaries.
Let the people they are actually representing and working for pay these embarrassing wages and benefits.
    Their parties.

  11. FYI, apparently Robyn Urback is joining the Borg (Mother Corpse) as part of the Ceeb expansion. All Corpse, all the time.

  12. If that’s the case, then they should only be allowed to claim “Moving Expenses” as laid out in the Income Tax Act…..just like the rest of us, then deduct it from their income as per The Act.
Selfie Boy can reimburse all those other “fees” they claimed that don’t qualify as Moving Expenses under The Income Tax Act out of his own pocket, or see if the Party will pay them. In which case they can then declare a Taxable Benefit, add it to their income & pay tax on it.
Ms Redford had that explained to her when she brought hubby along for the ride in the Alberta corporate aircraft. Taxable Benefits are quite clear & specific on what is a TB. SO are Moving Expenses.

  13. “I had to move. Why should I have to suffer for it?”
Except, unlike a soldier posted from Wainwright to Gagetown or a public servant whose office has been relocated from Gatineau to Winnipeg or even a freshly-elected MP from Cranbrook, neither Butts nor Telford “had” to move.
They chose to move to seek career advancement.

  14. “They chose to move to seek career advancement.”
Ergo, file “moving expenses” (over 40km to next job) as per the Income Tax Act. I’m not paying for all the other stuff they claimed. It’s just more brown bagging from the LPOC, or any other Party pulling the same sort of stunt.
    F’E!
