  1. Yet another “I’m all for free speech but…” lecture.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a public university, which means that students have the same freedom of speech as people outside of the university. The chancellor is wrong when he says respect is “non-negotiable.”
I notice that The Fire rates the university as yellow, indicating that it is not fully living up to its legal responsibilities to protect student’s rights.

  2. Stances that are nonnegotiable are offensive and make me feel disrespected. The ironing is delicious.

  3. Your delicious ironing is disrespecting my fresh and crispy ironing. If we continue like this we shall soon be back to duelling.
what if I feel I am a queen and someone doesn’t bow before me, that’s mighty disrepectful – I demand their heads or further disrespect will follow with more heads.
F^%^ – The gang from Monty Python must be truly amazed at the world that their comedy somehow predicted.

  4. …..calling the stance “nonnegotiable.”
Do you get the sense of extreme aggression and value of non acceptance from the chancellor?

  5. The dear chancellor’s twitter handle is @RonnieDGreen if anyone wants to drop him a line ….

  6. In a saner society, the university’s wealthier alumni (I believe Warren Buffett is a grad) would start saying: “No more endowments for you.”

  7. The University of Chicago’s Dean of Students this week sent a letter out that said the school will not issue ‘trigger warnings’ on course material. Too bad if you hear material that your uncomfortable with. The university will not cancel controversial speakers.
Maybe the pendulum is starting to swing back?

  8. Some brave soul needs to stand up and tell the chancellor remarks such as he just made are highly offensive, implying as they do that his students have the maturity of a pre-schooler.

  9. Thinking back on my days as an engineering undergrad, I wonder just how I managed to get through university without diversity training, speech codes, and safe spaces.
