Bend over, Canada – your Sky Gods demand sacrifice: Here comes carbon pricing
A hint was the enthusiasm McKenna expressed about how major financial institutions support the government’s plan.
Of course they do — they’re going to make a fortune trading carbon credits — just as major industrial emitters who also support carbon pricing are going to make billions of dollars in subsidies our governments are throwing at them in return for their support.
Indeed, at the same Toronto Board of Trade event where McKenna spoke, Bank of England Governor Mark Carney predicted global carbon pricing will create a $5 to $7 trillion-a-year business in so-called clean infrastructure projects, much of it financed through capital markets.
h/t Progressive Pat

You can consider the Carbon Tax revenue neutral, because the Liberals will foolishly spend
every tax dollar they steal from us.
So the poorer, weaker members of society get hit disproportionately hard. Sunny ways Canada, indeed. But I guess common sense would suggest that the powerful will work for the interests of the powerful, generally at the expense of the disempowered. Because they’re powerful they can exercise it and do as they please. So the only way the weaker members of society can hope to improve their lot is to seize power from the elites and take their place. Then they would get to enjoy the benefits of carbon taxes, I mean, credits.
Who’d a thunk;

So any interest in the west seperating from the rest of the country.
It’s going to happen.
Only question is when.
This is what I mean when I say the police and BLM folks are merely pawns.
The politicians get them to distract the peasants while the real population control takes place.
They can kill all the police officers they want the head of the snake gets stronger
So what can we do about this insanity aside form bending over?
Why all the negativity? We are going to prevent the climate from changing! It is a consensus from climate scientists like David Suzuki that CO2 is poison!
Governments have been pounding us up the *ss in excess taxation for decades and now we are to be forced to yield some head to “green cultists” at the same time?
Enough! It’s well past time for Conservatives to get out of their comfort zones and take to the streets to stop these injurious rapes of the Canadian taxpayer.
“In other news, conservative financial traders literally salivate over new gains to be made in transactional fees in an industry where you can make a fortune trading fairy dust without ever delivering a single container.”
“How Deep, Senor Trudeau?”
McKenna is just the latest (and arguably one of the best) example of Liberal “Bimbo Stupid” to be rolled out. In a party where the bar has been set so low for Bimbo Stupid, that even JT makes the cut, that says something.
If it is such a great idea, why did the Carbon Credit Exchange set up by global climate change idiot, Al Gore, fold after a couple of years? For this information, I cite (and I am certain I could find more):
http://www.globalwarmingskeptics.info/archive/index.php?thread-937.html
Al Gore made his wad ($18 M), but it didn’t last, because he had to sell his brand channel to Al Jazeera within months of that event.
It took me 2 seconds of time to find this information on the WWW. So how is it that Trudeau and McKenna can’t learn from the lessons of history and find this information for themselves? It is insanity to keep doing the same thing and expecting different results OR those that won’t learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them.
And finally, how many of you have written to the illustrious McKenna and challenged her ideas with reality? Take a few minutes and hit her figuratively between the eyes with a dose of history. I know I don’t want to give any more of my hard earned dollars to fakirs with a phony and fantasy based agenda.
Because, THIS time it will work, despite these plans always failing in other jurisdictions. Because, LIEberal!
That’s right. We’re saving the planet so says the most well respected scientist on the cbc.
Do not let facts get in the way. Top Russian scientist predicts global cooling. Where are Canadian scientists? Haven’t heard boo from them since they have been unmuzzled. Media should ask them about this:
https://tgrule.com/2016/07/15/top-russian-scientist-fear-a-deep-temperature-drop-not-global-warming/:
Because, as Wilkow mentions often, they’re all and only about the History of Now. Nobody got an education until Depts. of Education were created, no babies were born without weekly ultrasounds, no cars were driveable without Apple Carplay.
Throw in the fact that they have nothing to learn from anybody but are qualified to teach on everything and this is what you get.
Carbon pricing: Liberal-speak for BOHICA (bend over, here it comes again).
looking at CO2 frorm a factual scientific point I hope you are being sarcastic.
Who cares what the corporations think? The buck stops with the taxpayer. McKenna is simply openly admitting that Ottawa has adopted a Corporatist governing ideology.
Progressives these days like to cloak their statism in faith-based green. Many (LPC, Spawn, Butts) prefer the fascist vs socialist form as it allows the appearance of a market system when in reality the corporation becomes an agent of the state and when the SHTF, politicians can distance themselves by blaming the “private sector” (devious but politically brilliant). The green theocracy is just getting a little greener while the rent seekers cheer it on. Rent seeking corporations are the enemy of, not a functioning part of, capitalism.
Basically, politicians with 6 figure incomes are *very* excited about forcing people with 5 figure incomes to pay more to heat their homes and drive to work so that people with 7 figure incomes can buy more yachts and mansions. Perhaps because doing so guarantees politicians become the people making 7 figure incomes after they leave politics. And the effect on climate change for the trillions taken out of the productive economy: a fraction of a degree per decade so, essentially, zero.
Politicians get that those trillions taken out of the pockets of businesses, consumers and taxpayers have consequences, right? That people will have less disposable income to save for education and retirement or spend on non-essential consumer goods. That decreasing purchasing power means fewer profitable businesses and less tax revenue. As long as the business class environmentalists get rich, I guess it doesn’t matter.
Politicians and the chattering class will also be shocked and appalled that populism continues to rise.
Now the millennials, and assorted leftist &/or HDs types, get to find out for themselves, without benefit of the advice of the experienced ones, what a Trudeau can do to an economy and a country.
The poor don’t mind paying more of their measly after tax incomes to Justin to save Gaia. Remember if we could shut down all our manufacturing and transportation and therefore lives, we will spare the fevered planet .0000000001degC of warming, assuming the models are right of course.
Only a right wing nut wouldn’t see the benefit of that. That’s why I’m cashing out; I and my fellow boomer voters are going to feasting on the millennial (and 30something millennial wannabe) wallets as they enter their high income years and we enter our declining decades of voted comfort.
A slow and steady burn of millennial bucks to show what compassionate leadership, from the heart rather than the mind, can do to/for them; excellent.
Chretien: 54% top marginal tax rates on income over $60,000 ($90,000 in todays dollars). NB now there now at $200k. Yet they need transfer payments.
Go ahead millennials, pull out your cell phone and find an app to figure that one out.
All together now: thanks millennials and math illiterate TO types. Show me the money, that’s your tuition.
“McKenna is either making the same mistake Alberta Premier Rachel Notley did when she introduced her carbon tax last year, or she’s being disingenuous.”
Disingenuous:”Assuming a pose of naïveté to make a point or for deception.”
We used to have a word for that, LYING, but I suppose in these PC times no one can ever use a word that might hurt someone’s feelings.
McKenna, Notley,Trudeau,Clark,Wynne and every other advocate of a carbon tax is a f***ing liar whose government desperately needs the money, nothing more.
They most certainly are NOT “stupid” as some here claim, THEY will one day waft off into retirement on a fabulous pension with many other perks and will never be the least bit damaged by this or any other tax.
WE,otoh, are stupid for not lynching the whole lying bunch, to replace them with another lying bunch.
Kate – after the publicity given to the simplistic fake nude done of Stephen Harper you have to do something similar. Although the sentiments may appear juvenile I am entrusting you to produce a painting of Justin Trudeau as a tranny with saggy breasts, a pot belly, an obligatory tiny penis, and signs of age such as cellulite. Thank you.
So, it has been scientificly proven that you can stop climate change by putting a tax on carbon.
Do you suppose that stupidity can also be stopped by putting on a tax on stupidity?
Wait. Already done. Lotto 6/49.
Mutt: Hey Jeff. These smart pills you sold me taste like sh!t.
Jeff: See, you are smarter already.
The Liberals and their media have touted McKenna as one of their smartest …..too bad it’s not apparent to the general public. IMO she looks befuddled, hasn’t figured it all out yet.We won’t hear any negatives, the media are too busy keeping up with their Vogue coverboy as he cavorts about the world and the country doing all his fancy maneuvers…. two handed handshakes with lean-ins, etc.
At least with 6/49 you get to suspend reality for a moment, spend only $3 and imagine winning $millions.
With our PM and the other assorted closet communists, you have to suspend reality for a lifetime, spend $millions, and imagine getting even $3.
If you’re “rich,” soon to be a heartbeat (or not) &/or a pay cheque, you have to buy everybody else’s tickets, with no chance of anyone winning.
Except, of course for the overpromising, underperforming apparatchiks in their gated communities, sheltered within the corral of progressive controlled media, education, civil service, justice & law enforcement and courts.
We’re not there yet but the US is and we tend to lag them on such matters. After all they elected O-bang the drum before we elected cabin boy.
So what can we do about this insanity aside form bending over?
Go Galt. It’s a whole lot easier to spend less than earn more. I live very comfortably debt free. I’ve been planning for the shít-to-hit-the-fan for decades. I will be only slightly effected by a carbon tax. My heating and electricity are renewable [wood & small-scale hydro], I make 1/3 of my vehicle fuel, I grow a garden and buy other food locally. I buy very little processed ‘food’, but the cost of fresh food in the winter will increase slightly. I’ve reduced my taxable income to the poverty level, and this ‘carbon tax’ will likely increase my GST rebate; I get more money from the govt than they take. So Fúck ‘Em, I choose not to play their silly weather tax games. Anyone else could have done the same if they’d started planning shortly after 9-11. The writing was on the wall for those who took the time to read the signs, but most decided it was easier to just complain… that’s what Canadians do. It’s not like we weren’t warned. BOHICA
Catherine McKenna comes across as not just dim but out of her depth. Then again, she’s not the only one in cabinet like that.
I think it’s done on purpose. She and her ilk are merely figureheads and it’s the unelected staff that actually make all the real decisions. She, like many of her colleagues, don’t do anything but act on that advice, thereby avoiding any accountability.
When the carbon tax was repealed in 2013, Australian states were happy because money would be freed up for more important public purposes and costs would go down.
Why can’t Canadians learn from that experience?
I think it’s done on purpose. She and her ilk are merely figureheads and it’s the unelected staff that actually make all the real decisions.
That’s true for the PM and the whole cabinet, they’re all just electable figureheads.
Why can’t Canadians learn from that experience?
Because the mentally deficient millennials that give the lieberals the margin they need to get elected were voting entirely on Trudeau’s media crafted ‘rock-star’ popularity. They have no grasp of the issues involved.
Here’s why:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yoQgAQOALc
Yeah, I know that he’s referring to Americans, but, sadly, it applies here in Canada as well.
It’s kind of a rhetorical question, but, yeah – you’re right.
Some Canadians actually think this will stop global warming. Truly ignorant.
Enough stupid ignorant Canadians thought this would stop GlobalWarmingClimate Change that they voted Trudeau’s party into govt.
“It’s too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards.” — opening lines of 101 Things To Do ‘Til The Revolution by Claire Wolfe.
“So what can we do about this insanity aside form bending over?”
Get some Vaseline.
That’s surprising. I expected something less submissive from you.
Vaseline, commonly known as white petrolatum, is a petroleum product used as a base in many ointments, creams and lotions. These will be taxed accordingly.
