1. Irrelevant.* You are attempting to diffuse the responsibility for this outrage and divert attention away from the culprits: Islamist extremists. It won’t wash. I suppose that the same could be said about Syria, Tunisia, Egypt and, in fact, any of those mideast/Mediterranean Moslem countries. You’d think we’d have learned that only a “strong man” dictator type can keep the people in that part of the world under control. And by control, I mean preventing total chaos. But no. We had to depose Kadaffi and al-Assad and Mubarak, etc. That worked well didn’t it.
The western ideal of democracy just doesn’t fit the culture. Yeh, the strong man kills and tortures a few hundred and imprisons a few thousand citizens every year but he maintains a semblance of order and society as opposed to the total chaos that we’re seeing today where moslem on moslem killing is completely out of control. (Frankly not that I care).
Bush was wrong to try. It was a mistake. He was an idealist. He thought freedom and democracy were universal ideals. So what’s the excuse of the current administration for not learning from that mistake. The situation currently is anarchy on a large scale. And why compound it by importing these same people into Western countries. Upon reflection, I suppose it’s the idea that they will adopt the western culture, that western culture will “civilize” them ….. that’s another mistake we can learn from. After all we have the case histories from France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, and Italy to learn from.
