  1. The UK wanting independence from Europe is identical to Canada wanting independence from the US. I don’t think we would enjoy it if the US came up with tens of thousands of pages of regulations covering every minute detail of our lives without our having the opportunity to vote on it. Good article.

  2. Normally I lump Colby in with Micheal Den Tandt (take Micheal’s editorial, yesterday, on gun control) or McParland for that matter, stewed in leftist company for far too long. Anyway, this time he hits the ball. Maybe not a home run, but at least a stand up double.
Of course John Robson and Rex nail it.

  3. Movie day with the kids, now that school’s done. I put on “Chicken Run”.
One of the lines early on the movie made me think of Brexit.
“Let’s face the facts, ducks. The chances of us getting out of here are a million to one.”
    “Then there’s still a chance.”
The great escapes like the one this silly film is based on don’t just happen in fiction. And yes, my choice of “The Great Escape” was deliberate.

  4. What the elites and the EU failed to understand was that moving from National Socialism, yes Hitler was a socialist, to Continental Socialism in 2/3 of a century was not seen by everyone as a movement forward.
Congratulations to those who fought and won the second Battle of Britain. Never was so much owed by so many to so few

  5. Yep, Rex crafted a fine column…here’s the money quote:
The often-ignored, sometimes quite rudely deplored British people have spoken and, to the horror of enlightened opinion, respectable party leaders, the ever-guiding liberal intelligentsia, have decided they don’t want “in” the European Union. The vote comes as a mighty shock to broad-minded continentalists and supranationalists everywhere, but particularly the high elites of British politics. The Guardian’s readership will need special help — grief counsellors are already overwhelmed.
The EU vote is the most dramatic illustration to date of how the “guiding elites” of many Western countries have lost the fealty and trust of their populations. Of the gap between ordinary citizens, facing the challenges of daily life, and the swaddled, well-off and pious tribes of those who govern them, and increasingly govern them with a mixture of moralistic superiority and witless condescension.
    ……
Brexit voters rejected the cossetted elite who would have girdled the hoi poloi with carefree abandon. The leading Bremainers, whose overarching concern was how it benefited their own personal bottom line, led to the tone deaf exclusion of how that affected mere common folk.
In a similar manner, it is the story of Meech Lake, and Charlottetown writ large. Perhaps it is sweet justice that the leading British pound rogue George Soros finally had his comeuppance…after all his ridiculous scaremongering.
Brexit: Soros Defeated by Act of God
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2016/06/24/brexit-soros-defeated-act-god/
Breitbart News on the eve of the vote predicted that an “Act of God” level storm system was about to wallop the UK and favor the Brexit. The worst of the day’s torrential rain storms and severe flooding hit hardest in Southeast England, which was expected to be the strongest area for the pro-remain vote.
The chaos depressed the national vote to a turnout of just 72 percent, versus the approximately 80 percent expected in the days preceding the referendum. The bad weather did not deter “leave” voters, but meaningfully suppressed the “remain” vote.
    ……
I’m sure the Brexit voters will be delighted to know that God is on their side whilst George Soros is enjoying his “baptism by fire”.

  6. Gee, look, another smug, stupid, moral preening Canadian. No shortage of those out there today.
It’s actually like this, Cosh: GB didn’t want to be “like Canada”. GB wanted out of the EU. They rejected your “we are the world” junk. They don’t give a crap what you and other smug Canadians think. Mature, grown up countries like GB don’t care about being like other countries.
Seriously, what is it about this country that’s produced a people that think everyone in the world waits with baited breath about what “Canadians” have to say?

  7. “CLIMATE CHANGE CAUSED BREXIT — EXPERTS”
Actually that should be BREXIT HAS CAUSED CLIMATE CHANGE. It has become apparent that the HUGE amounts of hot air being forced into the atmosphere by thousands and millions of opinionated talking heads (experts) by their endless hand wringing chatter about the evil effects of Britain leaving the EU is raising global temperatures………..computer models indicate that it is as much as 0.1 degree C. Ironically, many of these same people want you to stop driving your car because of it’s effects on the environment.
It’s way worse than we thought……….

  8. Obviously, the chattering classes were causing far too much cloud formation; hence
    the London ‘fog’.
Hilarious…hasn’t it always rained at one time or another in the UK?
    Cheers

  9. Merkel 2018: “So Belgium, it’s just us now.”
    Belgium: “Not this again.”

  10. This idiot is right this time but so is a stopped clock twice a day. Postmedia currently trading at 2 cents a share and about to declare bankruptcy any day now.

  11. What makes Canadian Elites and Intelligencia so annoying is that Canadian arrogance is based on not being American.
At least European arrogance has some actual history to it.
A pox on their autocratic institutions.

  12. The reaction (gone postal) by Van-Jones (self avowed Communist) is indicative of the damage done to the EU communists… The train has left them stranded and they are sucking for air.
The Brits have beat us to the battle & destroyed the global hordes in ONE stroke. The EU is done…along with all the EU/UN agendas…Does the UK send all the useless windmills back to Germany, or just default on payments…
Trump will be late to the carnage & Hillary will have to change her policies….No support for open Borders…No support for faceless EU/UN PC leadership…The EU will go into Hiding when Germany drops the dime…and they will!
YES! the world will follow the leadership of the UK

  13. Thanks for that link, lance, a great read.
“Look at the list of imprecations being hurled at Leave voters Friday, many of them by Canadians. They’re “small-minded,” “isolationist,” “short-sighted,” “fact-blind,” “racist” countryside boobs without vision or understanding.”
I was left wondering, however, why the author failed to recognize standard operating procedure for the political left and it’s MSM sentinels. Slander is their automatic go-to when they are faced with unfriendly facts and then run out of “previously-recorded” talking points. If Trump had a $1 for every time he was called a racist on CNN alone, he would be a trillionaire.

  14. Over at National Newswatch, the scary stories on the “Brexit” abound, and none of them except one on Huffpo, featuring comments by Jason Kenney, allow comments.
As usual, we are being told the world is in deep trouble because someone voted against the dreams of the globalist cabal, with no chance of rebuttal by more sensible elements.
The AGW/CC/OWG people have yet to figure out that the peasants have tuned out their fear mongering after a steady unrelenting diet of it for over thirty years.
Britain now has a better chance of survival, for all our sakes,I hope the EU doesn’t.

  15. I love it when so called “Liberals” and so called “journalists” start throwing around their feces because people didn’t do as they were told… hilarious! John Ivison the Scottish twat puts on his biggest girlish blouse and starts calling everyone “bigots”, Andrew ( “I love Pierre Trudeau”) Coyne does the same but without the benefit of a chin, PM Gilligans boss Gerard Butthead compares Brexit supporters like Farage and Jason Kenney to fascists and dictators… what a bunch of crybully “progressive” fascists, all of them need a good old fashioned ass kicking. Hey, PM Gilligan was right about one thing, its not a good idea to let citizens have a say in the future of their country by way of referendum because it gives those citizens a chance to say NO to their political and journalistic betters. The good news for these Globalist goose steppers is that in Justines Basic Dictatorship there are no referendums, and thats just the way Butts, Andrew Coyne and John Ivison like it.

  16. EU laws governing curved bananas, crooked cucumbers, too powerful vacuums, no diabetes driver licenses, etc. etc..

Plus…Angela Merkel, the German Dictator inviting millions of Islamic refugees to rape and pillage europe without borders, then giving them Sharia Laws,
I don’t blame Britain for leaving..
Let Germany eat their own shit sandwich.

  17. Let Germany eat their own shit sandwich.

I think I’ve seen that on the internet before.
    So a friend tells me.
Er, “acquaintance” I mean. Yeah, “acquaintance”.

  18. The CKOM ‘news’ is reporting that 200,000 people have signed an online petition to have a do-over vote!!!
The blabbering head claims it is buyers remorse!
    How would he know that?
Isn’t it more likely that it is 200,000 of the 14 million that voted to remain?
How did the media become such a bunch of idiots?

  19. No surprise that ‘our moral and intellectual superiors’ from the msm have misread the vote; there is more blind bigotry in one of their acusitory index fingers wagging in our face than in all the ‘so-called’ right-wing blog sites combined.

  20. You’re right, the “AGW/CC/OWG people” have become like those fools that are continuously claiming that the world will end next Thursday afternoon.
The only ones who pay any attention to it are their own cult members.

  21. Don’t celebrate too soon, the Brexit referendum isn’t binding on the UK parliament.

  22. They may be short on guns but maybe this time Westminster has had a look at the history and realised that there are still a hell of a lot of unlicensed hay forks etc

  23. It is good to see the people of England’s extreme western counties as happy about the result as I am.

  24. Cosh nailed it. Our homegrown Ivory Tower Trash are too stupid to see the hypocrisy in their moans and groans.

  25. You would actually have been the 51st through 60th states, assuming Quebec could have been coerced into coming along. You also would have permanently skewed the US to the PC/multicult/socialist hell that Canada is.
    Thank you for not joining.

  26. Has anyone else noticed that there is no video, audio nor written reports of the Leave folks, screaming with joy at booting the EU out… all we are seeing is the moaning and bitching of the losers. It’s not like the unbiased media would be deliberately minimizing the giggling of the winners is it???

  28. I find it very interesting that many Canadians and Americans are so critical of Brexit and cannot fathom why the British taxpayers want to control their own country. Suppose for a moment that the American Union came to fruition, how many Canadians and Americans would be okay with the fact that decisions about their country came from oh say….an unelected body in Mexico City.
If that is okay with you then you may be able to suggest Britain was foolish to leave the EU.
I’m sorry I posted this in two places…it was supposed to go here rather than under “The truth about Brexit”.

  29. Large pension for life, not a bad trade off for giving the people the illusion of power.
