Do you have an account on one of VerticalScope’s domains? You may want to change your passwords.
Another 45M username/passwords leaked from 1000 web forums.
This happened before LinkedIn was breached and before the TeamViewer hack/breach.
From the story, this link to Leaked Source. It asks you to enter your email, usernames or other identifying data into the search field and checks if it is in their database of cracks. If it is, that account has probably been compromised depending on the type of encryption used in the sites database.
Don’t use the same password on different sites, try not to use the same username. Personally, I use Firefox’s browser password manager with the master password feature turned on and I have set Firefox to delete cookies when it shuts down. That way I only have to remember the master password and the rest are encrypted. Chrome and Explorer do not encrypt their remembered passwords, so anyone with access to the filesystem can see them.

I like to use LastPass.com’s stuff. It lets you sync all your passwords between devices (say you work and home computers) and gives you a password generator that guarantees that you won’t remember it. Also the encryption is all local so if their servers get hacked, its going to take a lot of work find you passwords (assuming you use a strong master password)
If you’re willing to pay $12/year, you can sync also with your mobile devices. You also get some really cool password sharing features. You could send me the password to the hosting account for SDA in such a way that I can use it but I can’t see it (there are some obvious limitations here… only share with people you actually trust) and you can revoke that access at any time. This is a much better way to give a number of people access to an account without making it “LancesSecret123!@#” or something equally stupid.
Don’t use those sites but thanks on the FF tip of password feature. I actually keep a little note book (manual) for most important passwords now.
Well Vertical Scope is owned by the Toronto Star. They are destroying gun and car forums with great speed. They buy out the forum owners and then load the sites with typical Star advertising. Members flee and there is little left.
This happened to three firearm and two auto sites I belonged to. They boast that they own 600 forums and spent $200 million from the sale of Harlequin to acquire Vertical Scope.
