Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

The so called Greenhouse effect the only green the eco-freaks like has big $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on them call it the Greed House Effect
The irony here is that greenhouse operators pump CO2 into the greenhouses to dramatically increase plant growth. Not in theory but in reality.
From the comments to the article: “Scratch a Canadian and you uncover a socialistic soul.”
Observations tend to validate this comment.
The next Alberta election is 2019. The Wildrose Party and the Conservative Party had better get together and figure out a strategy to keep from splitting the vote and allowing this devastation to continue for another term. I would recommend they agree to only run a single candidate in each riding, and they can have their own election amongst the PC and Wildrose candidates 6 months prior to the general election. This will allow them to clean out almost all of the NDP seats from the legislature. Failure to work together will only hurt the people of Alberta more.
This comes from decades of brainwashing in our educational system. It is extremely disheartening when discussing events with my grandchildren to realize the amount of socialist thinking is being injected into them. Particularly now, with AGW/Climate Change brainwashing, and dissent or counter arguments are not tolerated.
I can see Venezuela from here.
What’s the difference between Stelmach, Redford, Prentice or Notley?
Stelmach was the best thing to happen to the Saskatchewan economy.
Redford’s corruption and nepotism made her own party sick.
Prentice with a $6B deficit and increased spending looks identical to Notley’s budget.
It wasn’t Notley that spent us back into debt. The Alberta PCs are definitely progressive first.
So tell me, why would I support a merge of socialist and conservatives to try to defeat socialists?
Who needs greenhouses? Shut ’em all down, farms too. Food comes from Safeway.
Agreed, Ken. This descent into quasi-religious unscientific superstition is going to produce enormous hardship for no reason at all. And the sheep will be too indoctrinated to even know they’re being shorn. It’s been said that civilizations die by suicide and I fear that is the path we are on, on so many levels. Times of plenty breed sloth, not only physical but moral and intellectual. Why study engineering and physics, or agriculture, when you can secure a government sinecure with a degree in gender studies or some such invented drivel? By the time the sheep wake up to the wolves in their midst, it will be too late and they will lack the tools to fight back.
Scratch a politician, find a socialist. Doesn’t matter what ideology a politician professes: they are ALL statist busybodies who think they should run every aspect of your life. They ALL believe that the “market”, Adam Smith’s invisible hand, cannot be allowed to function, that markets need the “guiding” (or, more accurately, “Grabbing”) hand of government. And before you trolls start whining about how “untrammelled free market capitalism” doesn’t work, please list one place in the modern era that has ever even tried it. (Hong Kong before the mainland took over is the closest example I can think of, and that worked pretty darned well!). Anarchy Now!!
Greenhouses aren’t n-a-t-u-r-a-l maaaaaannn. Their sole purpose is to FOOL Mother Nature maaaann. Nature didn’t intend native peoples living so close to the Arctic circle to have fresh vegetables maaaannn. All Canadians need to live “natural” … on the land … unaltered by man, maaaaannn. Canadians need to live like the Inuit peoples maaaannn … on whale blubber and seal fat … maaaannn.
Red Rachel and her Politburo, being classical communists, hate farmers, Just as Lenin and Stalin thought the peasant farmers were a bourgeoisie in need of crushing, so thinks Red Rachel.
Enhanced Carbon dioxide within greenhouses is how intelligent carbon-based life-forms enhance growth of food while extending natural growing seasons. Carbon-based life-forms who feign intelligence and pretend to rule over similarly intelligent carbon-based life forms who vote for them will have none of that. I would guess that at most perhaps 1-2% of the political class are not supporters of the watermelon theocracy at some level reflecting the success of progressive rot in the education system and in vandalizing the culture.
Good point Ward, here is what I posted on the Rebel.
Do they not get that many greenhouses capture their own CO2 and use it to raise the levels in order to increase plant growth and reduce water requirements. Some even purchase CO2 for this very purpose. Therefore, shouldn’t get a credit for that?
Add to that: Saying you need to fight Climate Change is like saying you need to fight Mother Earth. These people need to take my “Are You A Climate Change Hypocrite” challenge that can be found on my blog by clicking my name above.
Uh, no. Safeway is capitalist. Tax it into oblivion for the crime of making a profit.
Under socialism–the true, just, and only form of government–*real* food comes from dumpsters:
http://www.truthrevolt.org/news/venezuelans-forced-dumpster-dive-food
Greenhouses get a double whammy.
First, they have to pay a theft–pardon me, carbon–tax for using natural gas. Second, since they often let their lights run longer to simulate sunlight, they pay it on the electricity they use as well.
Not only to heat, but raise their CO2 content 3-fold.
No it doesn’t. Food grows on trees; everyone knows that.
The point of the entire discussion is that, in the name of science so-called, political decisions are being made by those holding public office. Those politicians do not have the wisdom to discern between reality and a fantasy bordering on religious fervor. And politicians of all stripes have forgotten that while they enjoy the privilege of office, they still answer to the governed. Historically, as for example in Venezuela, when politicians plug their ears and don’t listen, the electorate becomes frustrated and once the flood gates are topped, when quality of lifestyle is compromised, the electorate rise up and become violent. At that point, there is never enough military, or police or mercenaries to stop the masses, even without guns. Once the tide rises, it washes the slate clean and what is left is not pleasant and becomes a dictatorship.
That is history – the subject very few teach well, and even fewer learn from.
I saw video this morning … of starving Venezuelan’s (and opportunist black marketeers)stopping and raiding several food trucks on a highway. Shortly thereafter, two (vastly outnumbered) soldiers with automatic weapons showed-up to STOP the raid … with virtually ZERO effect. It left me wondering how many Venezuelan’s have been KILLED by the government in their desperate scramble for FOOD ? And if none have been killed to date … I expect the slaughter to start soon. Yet the mainstream media remain SILENT about this CRISIS … *crickets*
When Canadian food PRICES spiral out of control due to these idiotic green policies … there will be no riots in the streets. Nope. The government will just subsidize food for the “poor” by imposing NEW TAXES on the working class … on top of the GREEN TAXES aimed at capital production.
So the government … having shot itself in the foot, will shoot itself in the heart to stop the foot pain.
yup. In 2004 UofT did a study that found 87% of professors in NA were lefties. But that fact does not answer were the parents of these brain washed kids are. Dad polishing his boat, motorcycle, and getting fishing equipment in order. Then goes in the house to watch the news and have a couple of beer. Muther, on the phone and watching reality shows. Yup, it’s all and only the educational system!!!
“At that point, there is never enough military, or police or mercenaries to stop the masses, even without guns.”
That is exactly what happened in early March 1917 in Russia. The military in Petrograd, recent peasant recruits, began to side with the hungry people, the police were killed or ran away. Then, within a couple of weeks, the tide washed over the whole country. The local police in the district where my grandfather lived threw away their uniforms and ran away, similarly where my wife’s family lived 1500 kilometers away. By the end of March there were virtually no police anywhere and anarchy reigned. The Provisional government was never able to establish order all over the country and when the Bolsheviks began agitating all summer and promised the people food and land the people fell for it and accepted the Bolshevik coup in October. The point is, hungry people will fight with or without guns.
Scar, exactly. Marx hated the bourgeois as do Canadian socialists and self employed farmers are bourgeois. In the 1970s two Saskatchewan NDP cabinet ministers, Prebble from Saskatoon and the other from Regina, can’t recall the Scottish sounding name, mused about why farmers should own their own land.
NME, yes, and the irony is that when the radicals take over even most of these leftist professors get swept away by the Robespierre radicals.
Having been in the post-secondary system for many years, that statistic doesn’t surprise me. Being in engineering, I didn’t encounter too many lefties, particularly among those who spent time in industry. Having to work for a living and, occasionally, getting oneself dirty does give one a hard sense of reality.
In certain departments, having political leanings other than left could be hazardous to one’s career prospects.
“In certain departments, having political leanings other than left could be hazardous to one’s career prospects.”
Which is what one of my sons-in-law, a grade teacher, has discovered. He learned to keep his mouth shut about his conservative views while still in university and the atmosphere in the elementary school where he teaches is no different.
The people always seem to have to learn the hard way about the false utopia promised by the socialists.
Smitherenzes, this is a pretty simple concept. The PC and Wildrose parties garnered more votes than the NDP. Almost 30% more, in fact. But the NDP got the majority. I don’t care if you think the PCs are socialists, there were 360,000+ people who still voted for them, considering them to be a conservative party. If you eliminate the vote splitting, you eliminate the chance the NDP can win more than 5 ridings. You can bitch all you want about the poor leadership of the PC party, but in the end all your bitching accomplishes nothing if the NDP are the ones in power. Because whereas the PCs might push a some socialist policy sometimes, the NDP will push all socialist policy all the time. And all of this ignores the fact that I suggested the Wildrose party would work with the PCs to ensure there’s only one or the other. What are the odds that the PCs would be able to beat the Wildrose party in a majority of the ridings prior to the actual election?
I used to teach at a certain post-secondary institution. In my department, the situation was the other way around for me.
One of my department’s administrators was a fanatical Reform supporter. I, on the other hand, was apolitical with conservative leanings. Still, I simply couldn’t take that party seriously and openly poked fun at it.
The administrator in question was not amused at my political commentary and made sure I paid for it.
I guess it can sometimes work the other way, although I think the lefty numbers far outweigh the number of right leaning.
My sister-in-law teaches at a college near Hamilton, Ontario, and has to keep her conservative views to herself.
Pete is correct, these clowns fools and fatties did not get a majority for any other reason than vote splitting. Everyone who cares about Alberta needs to work toward getting the two parties back together, call it the “Wild Conservatives”, way better than “Progressive Roses” but seriously these idiot ndpeeers running Alberta’s treasury into the ground, would give out a green taxpayer funded grant for a solar/wind powered Kenworth if approached, and before they try the Rogers Pass with a loaded B train with that eco/morons wet dream truck, we need to send them packing.
Soon after I started grad studies, I got roped into being our department’s representative at the grad students association meetings.
Most of those who showed up were lefties and there were times when I thought I was the only conservative in attendance. I got a lot of dirty looks for having the courage of my convictions when it came to voting on certain resolutions.
In addition, there were times I felt rather foolish–I actually thought that being a grad student involved studying rather than engaging in political causes.
In hindsight, I shouldn’t have been surprised as most graduate students I knew tended to treat that time as an extended vacation with no fixed deadline, so I guess they could afford to engage in such tomfoolery. Fortunately, though, that was my only involvement with student politics.
I don’t have a personal stake in this, but the stupidity is mind bogging — unfortunately the phenomenon is not just in Alberta. Wynne’s green plan for Ontario is equally foolish. What to do, when even the media supports the socialist and green scam agenda?
Socialism has a long history in this country. Many immigrants had hard core socialist leanings and Saskatchewan itself voted in a socialist government in I believe 1942. It could have just as easily been Alberta or Manitoba.
For years on this blog I suggested Alberta is a very socialist place – and took the shots for suggesting it. Now we have a full blown socialist government in power.
Imho they will stay there and probably be reelected if the PC/WR parties can’t bury their differences. I’m not convinced they can or will. Or for that matter want to.
lol !!!
just got off the phone with new democrap thomas lang’s (from the link) office mgr and told him that Alberta voters may view themselves as having attended a party (election) got drunk (voted new democrap) and decided they wouldn’t do that again seeing as it cost them their job. AND told the bloke my prediction that ontariariario new democraps have disqualified themselves from getting a majority for the next 50 years and if Alberta new democraps arent careful, they’re going to find themselves in the same situation.
These people are such greenwashed libtard idiots. The exhaust from burning natural gas to heat the greenhouse is vented into the enclosure. The greenhouse plants absorb CO2 and turn it into biomass; they’re a net CO2 sink.
Exempting farm equipment diesel fuel but not greenhouse heating is stupidity³.
Carbon taxes are foolish ‘guilt taxes’ for urban yuppies, but this is beyond ridiculous.
The NDPs new motto:
Verschlimmbesserung — “improvement that makes things worse.”
Red Rachel uses cheap foreign labour to fight forest fires:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK-NDK3MCvQ
I wonder B, if things are so bad in the nation with all that oil, how does food get into the dumpsters in the first place?
anybody wanna weigh in on this?
the reallbad news is we’re ALL headed for a time when men will beat each other unconscious for a stale sandwich.
this pete, is reason to eschew and ridicule ANY form of proportionate representation.
politics is the art of compromise; nuthin’ gonna put THAT in the forefront than a host of parties and unending coalition governments.
frozen into inaction the critics say? GOOD !!! fantastic way to HALT the meddling politishuns are famous for. 150 of making laws and the *still* haven’t got it right? what does that tell us?
Ken: I think it might be this one by the description. (the Regina connection):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allan_Blakeney
One way that the food might have been available to throw away is from the politburo or its buddies having the money and privilege to dine so well. Waste to them mean nothing and why should it? They clearly need such abundance to ensure the success of the revolution, don’t they?
The same thing is happening here in Alberta. Take a look at the staff at Red Rachel’s Calgary Kremlin. Can anyone please explain to me just what they do there and why they are so important that many of them are paid 6-figure salaries? Meanwhile, unemployment increases and people are more reliant on food banks.
There will always be more than enough money for the socialist elite to live in ample comfort. We mustn’t forget that all animals are equal but some are more equal than others.
So you tax the greenhouses and put them out of business so you can truck the product in . All electric trucks I assume, solar or wind charged . Reminds me of our waste management. We can’t put it in a local pit so we truck it 75 km at enormous expense and put it in a pit . Thank goodness we a saving the earth ! And just about all of these con games work this way .
