Donald Trump’s promise to get government out of the way of energy companies was greeted with hoots and hollers in shale-rich North Dakota, where the presumptive GOP presidential nominee presented his plan.
And from a Canadian perspective — Saskatchewan’s Brian Zinchuk, from Pipeline News, joins John Gormley to talk about the keynote address, and the questions Trump asked him about the Upland Pipeline. Refreshing, eh? (podcast)

For sure the granola munchers and gaia worshipers will be aganinst him and his little snotiness Robert Kennedy Jr will want hims jailed and so will Bill Nye the Mad Scientists Guy along with all those eco-freaks from Greenpeace
Why don’t we just take these SJW’s and eco-nuts and give them a one-way ticket to China? I guarantee those tickets would cost WAAAAAAAYYYY less then what the greens have in store for us.
I think Trump is where the Green/Left will find out they are a small minority. Their organized demos make them feel big and loud but Trump will not only win the right but the apolitical middle and the unions.
When your criticism starts with “Demonic Hitler”, there’s not much further you can go and the people will tune you out.
Heh, why would anyone think the Chinese would want them? China is doing everything they loathe, particularly building about 200 reactors over the next 25 years and slapping curtailments on renewable operations.
Refreshing is right. Hopefully Trump can pull it off, and arrest the decline.
Ken;
I would argue that the self interest of Canada and the USA diverges on many economic issues. The USA has dominated Canadian economic trade in the two biggest investments ever made Auto Pact and energy. I won’t argue that both sides have benefited from these associations but Canada has always been the junior partner and the most susceptible to USA political expediency. It is absolutely in the American self interest for Canada to continue being a supplier of cheap materials. The fact that we have been supplying the USA market at a world discount of $15 to $30 per barrel of oil over the past 20 years should not be forgotten.
Has negative as I have been towards the Harper era and the lack of conservative accomplishments on how this country is ran and how it debates national issues I will credit them on their trade initiatives. The Canadian petro dollar was allowing a more independent trade policy and thusly a more independent diplomatic direction. Both could be an irritant to the GOP or DEMs. At some point Canada might get their act together and actually start acting like an independent country rather than a quasi colony.
I do not blame the Americans for this as their ultimate responsibility is to their citizens. There is no other country in the world that I have a greater affinity for than the USA. My argument is for Canadians to shoulder a bigger role in this partnership. Both Clinton and Trump have argued for a ‘new’ NAFTA deal. The USA barred Canada from the Pacific TPP negociations until Harper laid it on the line and demanded inclusion.
One of the biggest questions that will likely never be known about the last Federal election will be how much foreign money was used to defeat Harper. There were many on the international stage who wanted him gone. OPEC because of oil competition and Israel. Russia because of oil, the Ukraine and the Artic. The USA because of oil, the Artic and the Harper leadership which was charting a more independent trade future.
Ct
It is also not in the USA best interests to build keystone. It is however in Canada’s . So when we talk about nafta renegotiations I am all for it I want a much more open market with the USA let them suck up all we have to offer it is in our interests however the knob currently running our country will do everything to show his Muslim and left wing commie buddies how tough he can be to trump and in turn trump will totally ignore Canada which sucks if Harper and trump were in at the same time our countries would not know what to do with the money .
Once we get even one pipeline to the east or western seaboards we will see a huge return for our oil however this will not help us in this economic climate as Justin is a moron and USA wants energy independence .
The USA caused the crash of the oil prices not opec but I do not am not mad at USA at all they want to stop funding the Muslim terrorists that use the USA money from oil to subvert and attack them . Now that trump wants it all out there for full support and development the USA may be able to starve the Middle East back into the stone ages especially if the USA goes nuclear more specifically liquid fluoride thorium reactors very very very safe safer than Fukushima no high pressure tanks at all .
Once again Justin will keep Canada in the ditch and we will miss out on a YUGE opportunity here
But if Bernie or Hillary get in it will be the same old same old do nothing lame duck presidency and the USA will go right off the cliff total melt down
“Why Donald Trump’s poll numbers are surging right now.” On point:
“Trump is hitting Clinton on a carefully selected array of issues that at one point or another will appeal to persuadable voters from all persuasions. For hard core gun rights voters, especially in the South, Trump has been calling Clinton an outright “gun grabber.” For mainstream conservatives who focus on foreign policy, he’s been reminding everyone of the mess in Syria and Libya that began during Clinton’s term as Secretary of State.”
For moderate-to-conservative women who aren’t so sure Clinton deserves the women’s vote just because she’s a woman, Trump has continued to allude to her alleged complicity in Bill Clinton’s sexual misconduct cases and for what Trump says is her relative silence about violent discrimination against women in the Muslim world.”
And for progressive voters, Trump keeps reminding everyone of Clinton’s ties to Wall Street and other alleged financial deals, thus the “Crooked” in “Crooked Hillary.” These attacks seem to be leaving more of a mark on the Democratic frontrunner than they’re helping Trump. In both the NBC News/Wall Street Journal and ABC News/Washington Post polls, Clinton’s numbers are more down over the last month than Trump’s numbers are up. That’s the thing about effective negative campaigning, it doesn’t boost your support that much, it just erodes your opponent’s support more. But that’s usually good enough to win.”
For North Dakotans it’s Keystone.

Shamrock, I agree with all of that. You could add that voters don’t so much come out in support of something as they come out against what they don’t like on offer. And there’s a lot even just within the Democrat camp not to like about Hillary. Hence the internal civil war going on, which is far hotter than that within the Republicans this time around, regardless of how the MSM has tried to hype Republican divisions.
Whether or not KXL is in the interests of the USA to build or not, it is absolutely within our interests to build Energy East, NG and Kinder-Morgan. Then we export Canadian oil directly, without the risk of having the US toll-gate it at the Texas Gulf coast.
Trump stating he wants a better deal for KXL is simply his way of saying, “Canada, grow up, smarten up and look after your own interests. Don’t expect me to do it for you.”
Kevin O’Leary 2019!
I agree. I was referring to the decline in the area of economics and moral collapse. Maybe it is too late to arrest the moral collapse. Previous civilizations have never come back from a moral collapse.
You are particularly correct as to the oil discount, and as cgh discusses, and that is why we need pipelines to the east and west. As those on this blog well know there is big money going into the opposition to moving Canada’s oil to the east and west coasts.
Paul and Shamrock also makes excellent points.
It is sad that Canada now has a puppet handled by a radical environmentalist and the shadow manipulation of Soros.
The eco-wackos and nature freaks wont be happy until were all living a primative lifestyle worshipping gaia and sacrifing virgins and childern to their earth gods and goddesses they worship during their dumb Earthday celebrations
They expect us to live that way, but never them, ensconced in their gated communities and living off what’s left of our fat, sustained by government largesse, which impoverishes us but gives them no pause.
Until we threaten that, as Trump has done, we will continue our spiral into poverty and oppression; nothing will change until the apparatchiks are removed.
When the Auto Pact was negotiated I don’t think the US ever anticipated or saw how successful it was about to become in Canada. The access to cheap abundant power in Ontario had a lot to do with that along with a labour force that could produce vehicles competitively.
Over time the Americans came to resent the perceived imbalance in auto trade and set about to get it back. To that end they have been somewhat successful.
It is completely 100% in their interest to keep Canadian oil land locked in order to purchase it at a discount.
In Alberta we find ourselves with a leader who has spent her entire life opposing resource extraction. She now in the past few months claims she supports it. Our Federal leader mirrors her viewpoint.
These people lack the conviction as well as the skill to take on the US.
It’s not easy to sleep next to an elephant but our currant leaders are especially ill equipped for the job.
Good analysis.
“…why would anyone think the Chinese would want them? China is doing everything they loathe,…”
I wouldn’t assume Justthinkin’ wants to send SJWs and eco-nuts to China for China’s sake. We should send them there because they won’t like it there and they want to change here into someplace we won’t like.
Those mindless little snots who are opposed to fracking and fossil fuels need to be freezing the fat little toes off during some realy hard winter with nothing in their dorms totaly naked and noting to do or eat becuase their pea sized brains are so full of this global Warming bull twaddle
