It’s like a zombie apocalypse without the zombies.

As explanation for the cause of Venezuela’s demise, this statement in the article says much more about the New York Times than it does about Venezuela. Even now, they can’t bring themselves to admit the abject failure of socialism.

The day had begun with the usual hazards: chronic shortages of antibiotics, intravenous solutions, even food. Then a blackout swept over the city, shutting down the respirators in the maternity ward.
Doctors kept ailing infants alive by pumping air into their lungs by hand for hours. By nightfall, four more newborns had died.
“The death of a baby is our daily bread,” said Dr. Bob Smith, a surgeon in the province’s capital, Edmonton, referring to the toll from Alberta’s collapsing hospitals.
The decline started in 2015, when the NDP government came to power. After effectively shutting down the province’s fossil fuel industry and wasting billions on green energy, the society started to collapse.
Conditions are similar across Canada and the City of Toronto now resembles Detroit back in the 2010s.

Holy shit! A year ago, Venezuela was a standing joke. Now it’s a horror show. Fixing this will require a mind as brilliant as Sean Penn’s. Has anyone called him?

Hard words to read…I can’t imagine the look of anguish on the health care worker’s faces after losing newborns after hours of feverishly trying to keep them alive. Socialism doesn’t spread out access to services more equitably like they all want us to believe. It puts all but the very rich and powerful in the same boat of having to share less and less until there is nothing left.
I hate socialists. What they are selling are poisonous lies with consequences that leave ever growing piles of dead innocents. Stealing from others always ends badly for everyone involved. The most innocent of which never had enough time on Earth to understand the evil that consumed them. We’re all expendable under such wretched idealogy.

socialism/communism is a great system to reduce the population. man I constantly am amazed at how stupid my fellow human beings can be. even my kids are stupid and I thought they learned something from me.

How did Venezuela get the largest oil reserves in the world? Canada, Saudi Arabia and even Russia are still doing okay even if we don’t have as much oil. Could any of this have anything to do with a certain Hugo Chavez. Probably not as he was the best leader in the world, second only to Fidel Castro.

Kinda makes you wonder what Maduro would call an awful healthcare system. And I mean “non American”, because that’s what he’d say first, and I want to head him off at the pass.

Vicious voters for the progressive liberal socialist left want to impose this suffering on their neighbours, it can’t happen overnight, so they start with laws prohibiting you from buying a large coke, government lectures on salt intake etc.
